When I was a kid, around 6th grade, my family and I lived in a place called North Edwards in California, near Edwards Air Force Base (father was in the Air Force). If you know the area, it is a barren desert-like area full of brush and hills but no cacti except for the occasional yucca tree or "jumping" cactus. Old run-down houses and gas stations mix in with newer homes as well, it was really quite fun and exciting as a child to explore these boarded up places.
Often times, at night, you could see several bon-fires out in the hills. And often you would stumble upon dead sheep out in those hills. Anyhow, my 6th grade teacher took the class out on a hike to see the seasonal wildflowers, while we were out exploring we stumbled upon an old shack. It was built together using very old splintery wood. Surrounding the shack, there were animal skulls of different sizes stuck on stakes in the ground and in front of the shack in stones, if I can remember correctly, fairly large stones (at least to a 12 year old) lined up in the shape of a cross. Needless to say, my teacher quickly rounded us up and brought us back to school.
Does anybody else know anything about this area? It's fairly close to a city called Bakersfield about 6 hours East of Los Angeles.
Lots of other "strange" things happen there, but that can be attributed to the Air Force Base itself. This experience is something else entirely.
