We Aussies and the Europeans have to wait until sometime today to find out when the Wii launch's in our regions. Hopefully it will be around the same time as the US rather than Japanese launch which is on December 2nd.

Here's another article on the Wii launch!

Industry News | Nintendo Goes on Record About Wii Launch
By Adam Riley

Nintendo will reshape the home entertainment and video game landscape with the launch of its heralded Wii™ home video game console. Wii will go on sale in the Americas on November 19th and Japan on December 2nd - European launch date, price and software line up will be announced at a press conference in London tomorrow (Friday 15th).

Wii will be sold as an affordable, mass-consumer product at an MSRP in the US of just $249.99. The price includes one wireless Wii Remote controller, one Nunchuk™ controller and the groundbreaking collection of five different Wii Sports games on one disc, which anyone can play using simple physical movements, experienced or not.

Every Wii console will include another distinctive feature: a series of on-screen “channels” that make up the Wii Channel Menu, which makes the console approachable and customizable for everyone, from the most avid gamer to people who have never played before. The Wii Channel Menu is the starting point for all of the console’s functions. The “channels” offer a gateway to a rich variety of entertainment options. When connected to a TV, the Wii Channel Menu offers a simple interface letting users pick games to play, get news or weather, upload and send photos or even create playable caricatures of themselves to use in actual games. The variety of options available through the Wii Channel Menu motivates both gamers and non-gamers to turn on Wii’s power every day.

Wii is creating worldwide excitement with its unique control system, an inventive, first-of-its-kind controller whose position can be detected in a 3-D space. The new controller allows users pinpoint target in games or move through the Wii Channel Menu with precision and ease. This intuitive control system will be understood immediately by everyone, regardless of their previous experience with video games. With this one small controller, Wii makes games both easier and more intense than anything previously experienced. For example, in the Wii Sports tennis game players swing the Wii Remote like a racket to hit the ball, as in real life. They can add topspin or slice the ball just by angling their hands and wrist like they would in a real match.

“Wii reinvents games for the devoted player,” says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “But more importantly, Wii breaks the wall separating players from non-players by delivering the best game experiences for the most affordable price. We believe the next leap is games for the masses – young and old, gamer or non, alone, with a friend or with the whole family.”

Fils-Aime made his remarks in New York, shortly after Nintendo executives in Japan announced Wii will launch there on Dec 2nd priced at 25,000 yen. Both announcements come ahead of a European press conference during which Nintendo will unveil specific detail around the console’s launch in Europe.

Between launch day and Dec. 31, Wii owners across America will enjoy a robust lineup of 30 software titles, with selections for everyone from video game veterans to newcomers. Some top Nintendo launch titles include Wii Sports, a compilation of tennis, baseball, golf and bowling; The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess; and EXCITE TRUCK™. While publishers are free to set their own prices for games, first-party Nintendo titles will have an MSRP of $49.99. Wii’s self-loading media bay also can play the entire library of more than 530 Nintendo GameCube™ titles from day one.

Third-party developers around the world have lined up to provide unprecedented support for Wii, “I believe the Wii will attract new and casual gamers to the world of interactive entertainment,” says Larry Probst, Chairman and CEO, Electronic Arts. “It’s a fun, easy and economical system that will become a bridge to gaming for mainstream audiences. At EA, we are putting more support behind the Wii than any Nintendo hardware launch since the Super NES.”

Nintendo never lies original.gif

It doesn't exceed $250, not as low as I may have wanted but still affordable. A prompt launch (Not delayed like a certain $600 system), and it's the system that I really want.
BurnSide
I have to say, they've really put an impression on me.
Backwards compatable immediately with the entire GC library is pretty freaking awesome, for example.

It may not have cool games that the other more expensive consols have but i love how you can use the controler as an object in the games such asas meybe a sword or gun ! thats so cool ! cant wait ! come to me baby !

Damb how much australian will that be ?
Solemn Judgment
This is vantastic! I thought the Wii would be around $400 but I'm going to get it now since it's so cheap!
Raptor
When news first began to emerge about the Nintendo Wii, I was worried it wouldn't stand a chance against the Xbox 360 or the PS3, but Nintendo seems to be doing everything right. It's got huge amounts of potential.

Now I can't wait to get one, and unlike with the PS3, I'm actually going to be able to afford one. yes.gif
Shakezulah
I'm slowly changing my mind on what to get first. Before, it was the PS3 for me, damn....the Wii just keeps sounding better and better all the time. And what's more? It's actually affordable!

The Wii is launching in Australia on December 7th and will be retailing for $399. It is the same package that the Americans are recieving as well, so it is definately worth the price.
tiddlyjen
damnit! Now what am I going to do! Its right between your birthday and christmas!
ShaunZero
The gamecube wasn't as big as the PS2 or the Xbox, but this time around, I think it'll be even with the other two consoles, or even slightly better! Right after reading up on this gaming "revolution", I knew it had great potential. And like just about everyone else here, I think it has amazing potential. I can't wait to get my hands on on of these.

I'm completely in LOVE with the new controllers and playing style.

I keep think of new games and ideas nearly everyday. I just hope some companies won't be too stubborn to support it well. If SquareEnix supports it as much as they are with the DS I'll be more than happy.

Mr. Fahrenheit
The only two things I would change about the Wii:

1. Different prepackaged game (Wii Sports-meh)
2. Lower Controller Prices. ($60 for Controller + Nunchaku!?)
ShaunZero
I also heard they're making a sequel to Chrono Trigger for the Wii. A friend of mine has a trailer for it, but won't show it to me. @_@

Never heard about that one, or of any trailer being shown. If that's true, then it's certainly far from confirmed. The closest I've been able to find is that SE issued a poll in Japan in 2004 asking gamers if they'd like to see a remake of Trigger on the DS. All other realistic rumours of a sequel.

Something from the wikipage:
QUOTE
There are no plans for additional titles in series, despite a 2001 statement from Hironobu Sakaguchi that the development team of Chrono Cross wanted to make a new Chrono game and that script ideas were being considered.[58] The same year, Square applied for a trademark for the names "Chrono Break" and "Chrono Brake" in the United States and Japan, respectively. However, the United States trademark was dropped in 2003[59] and no new titles have gone into development as of July, 2006.

Source

So, either they've been working on it for a good while in total secret, or your firend is pulling one on you. I think it's the latter, because he won't show you the trailer. There have been several fan remakes/sequels that have been shut down by SE, including a total 3D remake called Chrono Ressurection. If your friend has a trailer, it's probably from that.

Although most games will just use the Wiimote half, it is dumb that the combo should have to cost that much.

Well, I have reason to beleive her because she did show me a few wild trailers. The one she has is on a dvd from her friend in Japan. She states Glen is in the trailer and whatnot. That's why she couldn't send it to me. Don't really know what to think though.
woody82
Got to admit 250 dollarts sounds a right good price, i paid £300 for my 360, the WEII off what i've heard will be half that price and PS3 will be double that price, so i think if any consol is going to win the war on pure price thing and attracitng people to buy it is the WEII.

If you remember the best consol for graphics, speed etc was the Gamecube, it was the most powerful but no one bar the Metriods and Resident evil makers used it to it';s full potential.
XBOX was proved to be the best because they made use of it, same with PS2.

But 360 for me will be the best consol, but i feel the WEII will be huge competition as some people i know are hugely put off by the PS3's price tag....
ShaunZero
Well, I think the gamecube was the weakest system, although I never really could tell a big difference in gameplay between the 3 systems. Nothing big enough to matter anyway. I do feel that this time around Nintendo is going to give Sony and Microsoft a great challenge.

Hell, Square Enix is already making 2 games for the Wii.
woody82
Well i agree in a way, on the part of Nintendo will compete more this time. As the problem Sony have is there using unknown technology, there also got the problem of that no one really knows how to use it to the full potential pretty much like the Cube.

But in honesty i may bvuy a Wii, but they got to have games which appeal to me, and well the Cube even though i owned one for a year there was really nothing there to keep me owning one. As i had two PS2's before both breaking it's why i ended up on buying a cube.... grin2.gif

But still the Cube was the best system, had the most potential to pull off the best graphics and playing systems, but no one used it.....like they did with PS2 and XBOX.

But microsoft have the upper hand already, they've signed Fifa and Pro Evo to 360 exclusive, so PS3 and Wii owners don't get them, sure th PS2 gets it and Xbox etc but not the next gen bar 360....
ShaunZero
I think one of the main things going for the wii is the new unique style of gameplay. This will catch alot of game developers' eyes and perhaps result in some kick ass Wii exclusive games.
woody82
Like the wand thing which will be class in games with swords or harry potter style looks really good idea...not a fan of the one handed controller though
ShaunZero
I think most games will use the wiimote and the joystick looking controller which connects to it. At least I hope anyway. I just love the new style of gameplay though. Well, I have to test it out, but it looks awsome. Can't wait till the Wii comes out, I'm getting one right away.

EDIT: New information. I talked to a new guy on my game server, who knows nothing about the other girl I talked to about Chrono Trigger. I told him that I heard a rumor that they were going to make a Chrono Trigger Sequal on the Wii. And to my surprise, he said "It's true, my brother in law is helping them work on the American Version. He gets a job in November".

Now, another person claiming that it's real. Although I know there's no way to know if they are serious, but this is the second person to tell me about it.

I'd really thrilled if they did put a sequel to Chrono Trigger on the Wii, but I don't think that they have enough confidence in the system to do it yet. They are making DQ:S, but that's just a spin-off game and FF:CC2 is an obligatory show of good will between N and SE. they seem to be just playing it cool for now, untill they are able to see how well the Wii will go over.

That all aside, I can really see how the gameplay would work well with the Wiimote and I hope they really make it.
ShaunZero

Definitley. I just hope that if they do make it, they do a good job. Chrono Trigger is almost as popular as FF7. I doubt they'd screw it up though, Square Enix knows what they're doing.
woody82
Yopu'd doubt they'd mess it up?

If you look at the games since the Square and Enix merger they've gone downhill. Some have been good games Star Ocean but theres more games since that haven't been upto the premerged standard.

But still if they bring out Chrono Trigger on Wii i maybe tempted to buy one.

But we were having a discussion in computing, me, and two friends about what could be used in terms of games for the wand and how class it would be, games liek Zelda, etc would be great.,

But then we thought what about the other end of the spectrum, Horse riding, Fishing style games. esp Horse riding would look dodgey using the wand.....
ShaunZero
Horse riding will most likely be used with the "analog" looking control. The attachment to the Wiimote which is basically just an analog. I'm pretty sure that's what you use to walk.

See?
woody82
Looks classy, but still not sure on the one handed controler style, will they have anormal controler? or will all games be only available on that style?
ShaunZero
Well, here's another AWSOME controller for the Wii. Sadly though, I think it's used just to play gamecube games on the Wii =/

http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/technology/arc..._controller.jpg
AztecInca
^It will be usable for the games that don`t support the 'revolutionary' control system. The new Smash Bros game will be playable with either that or the Gamecube controller which can be plugged directly into the Wii.
woody82
That controler looks great, they've kinda taken the image of Apple with this design. If i had a Wii i'd have to have one of them controllers....

Awsome. I was hoping for this. Do you have a source for your information so I'm not getting my hopes up for nothing, lol?
Mostar
So i guess if you wish to play a two player game you have to buy the very expensive controls ? damb...cant they just place two in there ??!
AztecInca
^There is a game similar to Wii sports being relased called Wii play which includes mini games that make great use of the new controller. Said game will include a free Wii controller. The game is also quite cheap so I recomend getting that if you don`t want to pay full price for another controller.

Zero of Deism I cannot find a specific source for you as my Internet is again playing up but if you check out Cubed3's website you will find all the info on the Wii you could ever want.
Mostar
Thats great thanks for that !

When has any recent console ever sold two controllers with the console? You always have to buy a second controller. tongue.gif And the Wii remote will probably cost 30 bucks american, the same price the wireless controllers for GameCube, PS2 etc already costs.

I thought they were going to be $60?

Well got two controlers with my PS2 but it was a cheap one. But still $60 dollars a controller about 40 quid in english money pretty expensive....

Okay well if it's going for 60$, american, then yes that's a little steep.
Jok3r
Well usually the games for Nintendo aren't as good as PS2 or Xbox, so I'm sure they knew they couldn't put a huge price on it.

I might get it if it turns out to be good.
BurnSide
That's a matter of highly debatable opinion.
To you, the games are not as good as on Xbox or PS.
Personally, i have never enjoyed a game on Xbox, and have enjoyed many many with alot of my friends on the GC.
woody82
Well the thing Gamecube has going for it is that it's main market is in Japan believe you me if you look at the figures for sales Cube would most likely kick the arse off anything else. Like the DX kicked the crap out of the PSP.

But in the fact Cube has worse games i can say some are not the best, but there are some games that other consols could only dream of having games like.

Metriod Prime 1&2
Resident Evil 0,1,4
Skies of Arcadia
Zelda
mario
Super smash bros
Tales of Symphonia
Baten Kaitos

To name a few. XBox did win the market over here in the UK for games and stuff.

But Burnside if you got a XBOX i'd advise Star Wars Knights of the old republic 1 & 2 and Jade empite if your looking for good games.

Good job being up to date. hmm.gif Two words: wrist flicks. No gestural swinging involved.
BurnSide
There better be swinging. laugh.gif I'm looking at sword fights in zelda, and swinging the racket/gold club etc in Wiisports, etc.
woody82
Agreed with Burnside there better be swinging esp in games that feature sword batrtles one of the reasons i'm looking forward to seeing the technology in action.
