I'm not sure this is the appropriate forum for this, but in a roundabout way, it is an experience associated with UFOs...so here goes...

As a child me and my family would spend many summer days in the country...just driving around taking in and appreciating the beauty of mother nature that we all take for granted. Well one night, coming home from such an outing we drove past the airport (we were on the highway at this point in time) and the runway lights looked almost circular and as they were blinking my mom turns her head and says to my brother and I, "See this lights over there?" We tell her yes, of course we do and she continues, "I want you to know those lights mark the only UFO landing site in the united states of america." She went on to tell us about the aliens that landed there or whatever. I remember at the time not quite believing or disbelieving her. Still, I was intrigued..as I'm sure any kid would be hearing such a thing from their mother. Anyways, it must have been a few months later as school had started back up, we were on another one of our outings heading home past the airport again, only this time my cousin was with. My mom told my cousin that exact same story, my cousin believed it completely. It must've been a week or so after that where my aunt calls up, "Do you know what Tina told her class at school today?!?" My mom asks what and my aunt goes on to tell my mom this story of a UFO landing spot. Yep, my cousin fell for the story hook, line and sinker and went and told her class all about it. I can still hear my mom telling that story and explaining to my aunt that she had told Tina that story. Just thought I'd share this story with you all. It's a fond childhood memory that makes me chuckle, I hope it at least brings a smile to your face as well. grin2.gif

thumbsup.gif Your mom sounds great. I tell my kids stuff like that all the time. Now that they are older they don't buy it so I tell my nieces.... devil.gif

Welcome to UM! That is a great story. Thanks for sharing. Once around Christmas time, years ago, some friends and their kids and us went riding around at night looking at Christmas lights. There was a tall water tower in the area with a little red light on top to warn airplanes. It was to dark to see water tower so all you could see was the red light. My husband told the kids it was Rudolph the reindeer scouting out the area getting ready for Christmas Eve. It was terrific. It put the belief in those kids about Christmas for another couple of years! lol Sorry, off topic but wanted to share. Welcome again. blush.gif

Thanks for the responses ColdEthyl and Rollingthunder.

Cold, you're right my mom is awesome. And I can only hope to be able to connect with my kids the way she did with me and my brother.

Rolling, don't you just love those little stories? I mean you can tell a kid almost anything and they'll believe you and even if one day they know it not to be true, they'll look back on it and laugh.

Thats cute. I tell my kids stuff like that to sometimes, and once when I was about 6 or 7 my family and I were at the zoo and I was complaining loudly that my flip flop sandels hurt between my toes. My Dad said if I kept complaining they would have to remove the toe next to my big toe just like they had to do to my uncle. I shut up real quick! yes.gif

My mum made me believe in fairies that lived in the woods behind our house happy.gif I came across a magic tub of 'fairy' dust one day behind a tree whilst out exploring...don't laugh....

My Mom is from Austria....

The only thing like a story I remember is a curse...My parents said about my growing up ...

" you will get yours ten-fold".......

They were 100% correct original.gif

My husband and I had a few little fibs like that that we told our kids. You know those big white plastic things they wrap those huge round hay bales in? Well, we used to tell our kids that they were giant marshmallows on marshmallow farms, and that's what they cut the smaller marshmallows from. We also told them that the billows of smoke from the stacks on the paper mill near here were clouds being made by the cloud factory. All four of our kids believed those little fibs until they were about 8 years old or so. We're terrible parents! LOL. Of course now they just laugh about them. No worse than lying about Santa Claus I suspose. wink2.gif

I used to take my neice and nephew when they were young to a creek where we camped nearby and told them that if they listened carefully they would hear stories from where the water had been......

Thanks! I know of quite a few parents ( mostly older generations ) who would do similar things to keep their children amused. At least it allows them to use their OWN imagination instead of having it used for them by the TV.
