Full Version: A bit of silliness

Sthenno
I’ve noticed on these boards that nearly all of the poems posted seem to deal with very dark, very serious subject matter. While there is of course nothing wrong with this I thought that it might be fun to have a thread dedicated to pointless, nonsensical poetry. So, roll up, roll up, and post your daft stuff here!
I’ll kick off with a very silly poem of my own:

Here be dragons, they say
under bits of carpet and the shadows of a chair
lurking round the ringing bits of bells
You won’t see them, because their wings
sweep fire and brimstone and pavement dirt
into your eyes, where they stick all black
in the corners, and make you forget
They roll on marbles so you can’t hear
the crunch of claws, and think it’s just the wind
and like forgotten places, attics and window frames
where they can draw their simple thoughts in dust

They are getting old, and they don’t like loud music or cars
or skyscrapers, or new fangled disco dancing
And when the sun gets hotter their scales will melt
along with frog’s crowns and the harshness of peas

The dragons won’t bother us any more.

Here's my toe, lioness
smell it
or sift through marble udders

take my sugar lumps, whore
you need it for your tea
i asked YOU, conform NOW
Pull my face in
Crunch on my pickled tongue

I lifted you high
like a caramel pony;
your lubricious mother's jaw clenched my tiny toe
slowly consuming each one until no more horny fiends were left

I painted voices in my skin for YOU
YOU didn't hear!!!! WANNAANANANNA LIMMMMMPPPPP--fell back in my pants
Ha cha cha cha

I want to hypnotize her lab mouse
and criss cross her nipples with my own.
Would she love it?
I would.

The hippie I knew would only place
his femerell contraction into coexistence
with her if she obtained a walrus
from his cabinet and introduced it with
encrusted jewels.

Excellent! Keep 'em coming!
Big cheese
If i could choose
what bit of me to loose
I guess it would be my feet
The grey in my hair
That i try to repair
Is a mark of a spam
In retreat
But fear not i say
with the turning of grey
comes a wisdom
That forever will shine
for One day you forget
And have no need of regret
and you finally see
that Its all fine

I really liked this. I know you said it's supposed to be nonsensical, but it read well and flowed nicely. Excellent writing!

Aw, thanks! I really like Big Cheese’s above as well, it’s really sweet and cheery. Maybe what I was getting at was not necessarily nonsensical poetry, just a need to see something, anything, that wasn’t about being depressed. I personally think poetry is at its most powerful when it manages to say something and be quirky and sometimes funny at the same time. I think dark themes have been done to death and perfected in the classics; poetry needs to move forward just like everything else.

oh, belly button lint
why do you taunt me so
i'm all out of hints
why won't you just go
i scrub and i scrub
rub and scour in the tub
i pick and i pull
till the wastebucket is full
i've tried shovels, even a hoe
why still, won't you go?

oh, belly button lint
it's been a rediculous stint
stomp and stamp, still you crowd
oh crap - did i just say all that
OUT LOUD?

Sry missed this reply; im glad u like.

I know what you mean as much as I like dark poetry I can see how it can conjure up the image of purple angst riddled teens with trench coats and over sized boots
It’s good to have the other end of the spectrum now and then.

Agreed - I got some pointed remarks for comments I made about poetry that was mostly depressing ramble. It's nice to see something at the other end of the mood spectrum for a change. yes.gif

Cute poem, thumbsup.gif reminds me of one I read a while back called 'The Trials and Tribulations of Tight Jeans."

I didn’t write this. It’s in a book I have called ‘Poems on the Underground’, but I thought I’d post it as I love it, and it’s poignant without being depressing.

I THINK MY BRAIN IS COMING OUT OF MY EARS
Luke Yates
Found a pink wet thing
like a prawn under my pillow this morning
felt it, smelt it, looked at it under the microscope
and I could see memories, rumours and dreams
scrawled in my handwriting over the surface.
I keep my bit of brain in a jar, feed it marmalade, call it Fred.
Frightening to think what might have been missing -
unexplained chunks of life.
(I can't find the remote). Tonight
I sleep, orifices stuffed
and my ears glued to the sides of my head
