Hello... grin2.gif I'm a newbie

Looking for information. A friend of mine told me a story that happened in 1981 on Mount Pilchuck in Washington State. She was in a restaurant in her home town of Granite Falls in Washington when several local officers came into the restrauant and sat in the booth in the far back of the restrauant where she happened to be sitting with her young son. She noticed one man was noticeable shacken by some event. There was another man in civilian clothing, in a dress suit that was with the officers. They kept telling the man that was up set to calm down, and asked the waitress to quickly bring them some coffee.....my friend kept hearing the one man say," I can't believe it...what the Hey was this thing?"

Then she began to tell me this unbelieveable story of a "winged creature" that attacked these people in two cars on a remote part of the mountain.....and how the Military was called in and these people were taken away by the military along with the cars that had deeply carved scratches in them.

I know this person very well. She researches many subjects and is very knowledgable, and is not one to tell or make up....."stories".

What seems to be interesting is that a book was written about in 1980 called, A Geo-Bib liography of Anomalies....that tells of winged creatures seen in Chehalis and Longview Washington State in 1948. And I have read about the Mothman in the Mid-West.

This creature was discribed as being at least seven to eight feet tall.....leathery skin, large wings, big feet and handlike claws, somewhat humanoid, and lizard looking. blink.gif w00t.gif

The people were in thier late 60's....going on a pinic....and were standing outside the cars taking pictures of the view. When they saw what they thought was a person hand-gliding.....the sun was in their eyes so it was difficult to make it out at first, but as it got closer they saw that it was not a man hand-gliding but something awful as "it" flew toward them they ran for thier cars and headed back down the mountain. One car went into a ditch half way down the mountain (one of the men had a heart attack or stroke)....both cars had been attacked.....one car left to get help. The local officals went up the mountain, shot at it and got the other people into thier cars and took them back down the mountain, thye called in the military and they were there within a hour. Big flat bed truck hauled aways the cars and a military ambulance took the people. Everything was hushed up after that by the local officals. My friend just happened to be at the restrauant when the officers came in that afternoon.....other wise no one would have known the story. Two years later the Police Department burned down.....losing all records. hmm.gif

Strange things happen in that area all the time.....Forest Rangers disappear......UFO sightings......big foot sightings...orange orb sightings...odd murders.....and it is also a place where Satanists like to hang out in that area.....very bazzar. When you travel in or though some of those towns up that way.......it makes the hair on the nap of your neck stand up. Many of the murders are never reported in the news which is not the norm here. alien.gif devil.gif wacko.gif

I am interested if any others have heard of similar stories. I'd really like to know more about that information of the winged creature in our area.....to see if anyone might have been told that same story.

Curious.... yes.gif

kenshinx
interesting story. who called the military ?
Rabbit Trail
Hello Kenshinx original.gif

The local officers did....after they fired shots at it.

I've known my friend for over 20 years. She does not make up stories. She has had some pretty strange things happen in her life....me too that is why we are kindred spirits. original.gif
my_psychosis
I'm confussed. How did your friend hear the story? Did these men just recount the whole story and she over heard it? If the military was called in and it was all covered up then I seriously doubt these men would just talk about it in a public place. Sounds very fishy.
Rabbit Trail
Hello My_psychosis original.gif

They walked to the very back booth which was behind my friend. She leaned back against the booth to listened to them talking. If you knew what our small towns are like in this part of the Pacific Northwest especially back then....no one would doubt about them talking like that.....that's how small towns are....and were talking "small".

She was already in the booth, with her little boy, he was playing with his toys and eating. And she was talking to him and eating. When they left the table she pretended she was not listening and was inter-acting with her son.....they just gave her a glance and walked out the door....without a second thought.

The military was called because of the creature. Shoot, I'd call in the Calvary(Army), the Air Force and the Marines......if I saw it..... w00t.gif

I have a friend who is from Korea.....and her mother talked about the mothmen there......humanoids that looked something like a moth and flew. That was over 20 years after my friend told me her story. What it is....I don't know? But, people seem to see these same creatures of some sort. The Panda Bear and the Gorilla were not discovered until the early 1900's.....heard of legends of these creatures....but was not discovered until then! The Pacific Northwest.....can be very remote.....in many places.....and Indian legends are plenty of Big Foot.....and other sea creatures! Who knows for sure? Something's out there....and it scares a lot of people.

Thank you. original.gif

Now if I saw that creature you posted.......believe me, I'd leave a trail the looked like the yellow brick road....and it wouldn't be "bricks"..... grin2.gif

I have been interested in "winged humanoids" ever since she told me that story....... geek.gif

When she told me the story I only had a couple of ideas.....supernatural.....alien.....or made by a black ops...of the militray.

Hello fallingalien original.gif

I really need to do some serious searching.....

Duluce.....heard about that.....underground bases....is that the one you are talking about??

I think there is something to these underground bases....interesting reading.

Hi Rabbit, welcome to UM! Can understand upset people coming to the first quiet resturant they see and compare stories. Don't even come from a little town and have heard many private conversations while sitting at a booth with my daughter. People don't realize how voices carry. Not from that area and don't know anything about this creature. If you still live around there why don't you get in the habit of carrying a cheap disposible camera. You never know when a prime opportunity may come again. Even if it is military trucks. There will be something to back up these stories. Good luck in finding the information you want.

Such a creature if it existed, could only be from the supernatural realm, rather than the natural one. You see, unless such a creature could control gravity (as some suspect is a principle behind UFO propulsion), it would be impossible to fly. Cartoons and fairytales aside, a creature the size and weight of a human (and this thing sounds a good deal bigger, and therfore heavier), would have to have a wingspan of over 40 feet!!! exactly like the extinct Quetzalcoatlus northopi, the largest living creatures that ever flew, but whose body in only about the size and weight of an adult human!

This is exactly the same problem with winged, flying dragons. Any dragon big enough to gobble up a virgin sacrifice whole, (like a minimum length of a 25 foot theropod, would require something like a wingspan of at least 200 feet, and then we have to contend with the fact no bone would be strong enough to support wings that long, nor are any ancient depictions of such creatures ever depicted with realistic-sized wings.

This is not to say flying dragons could not exist, only they could not exist without supernatural abilities unknown to today's science. But if we examine the original dragons legends, and not those invented in the middle ages, we see that dragons are invariably supernatural creatures, who are servants to gods, or are gods themselves. They once played a major role in Judao Christian theology as well, (the Cherubim and Seraphim), though this reptilian connection has been edited out in more modern times, and they are now swan-winged "cartoon" angels.

If this story is true, are these demons? Unlikely because New Testament demons are nothing more than spirits/ghosts of deceased persons. There are no "fallen angels" in the Bible, this is part of a later, Christian "mythology" based on an infusion of various pagan dogmas popular at the time Christianity was being developed.

But leathery winged reptilian creatures have been believed in, in North Americanby the natives long before the Europeans arrived, and have been reported in modern times as well. Some are actually the "thundbirds", rather than a more traditional bird form. Very dragon-like creatures appear in pictographs and petroglyphs, some, like the Piasa are virtually identical to European dragons believed in on that continent for thousands of years. Some people believe these are ptersosaurs that survived the K-T event, but this is virtually impossible, for if these are normal, biologic animals, we would have to see fossil evidence in the last 60 million years, and there is absolutely no trace of it. Dragons if "real" then, even if flesh and blood, can only belong to a yet largely unknown spirtual/supernatural realm, believed in still by the majority of the world's population and called "religion"..
Spirit_Wolf
oo; Anthros are taking over! Naw, isn't it just like Draco to throw dragons into the mix? Anyways, what Draco said makes some sense. Since I've heard about these winged lizard things, I thought, Hm, this sounds very much like the depiction of a dragon like creature. Perhaps it is possible that these things are an ofshoot species of dragons. Yeah, I'm a fellow dragon lover, just my theory.

Spirit out.

Are we to assume(I detest that word) then, that the "creatures" in question were attacking those unfotunate people for food or to protect their territory or for fun?

As for the "overhearing" of the story in a resturant booth.....I ain't buyin that one....The U.S. Army would NOT go through all the trouble of covering-up ANY incident(and go so far as to "allegedly" burn-down a police station to destroy records), only to have a couple of goobers walk into the local "choke-n-puke" and start-on about ANYTHING they had seen.....everybody...and I do mean EVERYBODY...involved would have been debriefed, and those who were deemed a security leak would have been delt with.

Hello draconic chronicler grin2.gif

Thank you for your interesting and informative information and view points I appricate the time you took to answer me. original.gif

I understand that the wings were as wide as a normal road....30 to 40 feet? I think the people were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I know some of you don't buy the story....that's okay. original.gif Not to offend anyone here but, I am not here asking to be validated by any one. My friend asked if I would put this on the web....she does not have a compter and I said I would. It doesn't matter if you believe or not. The web site says it all.....unexplained mysteries! That is what I am talking about.

I didn't come here to verbally get into arm wrestle with anyone over the subject matter or have my head ripped off for having a different point of view so far no one has tried that! laugh.gif .I was looking for reasonable intelligent people who are willing to share information on this subject matter. I thougt it could save me some time on the web. I have done some research over the years myself.

For anyone who is interested in these flying creatures you can check out a news article from the The News Tribune written by C.R. Roberts dated August 24, 1994 in Tocoma, Wasington....article...."Mount Rainer-area youth has close encounter in the foothills". Young Brian Canfield, 18 alone on his way home from Buckley to the isolated Camp One, located in the Mount Rainer foothills above Lake Kapowsin described a winged creature about 9 feet tall with claws, blue-tinted fur, yellowsih eyes, sharp teeth and trfted ears. It wings were as wide as the road. It was an interesting article.

I also read John A. Keel's book "the Mothman Prophecies"....and saw the movie, but it was not as good as the book. original.gif

Several years after my friend told me this story I pick up a book, "Natural or Supernatural? A Casebook of True, Unexplained Mysteries" by Martin S. Caidin. In it I was a story of U.S Marine David E. Gower. The encounter took place on December 17, 1974 in Vietnam. He was serving in Nam with the Fifth Special Forces Group, Marine Detachment. They were pulling duty north of the DMZ and had been in that area before. It was a search and destroy mission. The delivery boys from the PBR (patrol boat, river) despoited them on an embankment some fourty miles north of thier starting point in the middle of nowhere. He had a six man group under him. They were to set up an ambush for the enemy. The fire power was a BAR (the Browning Automatic Rifle), M79 genade launcher, one light machine gun (Thompson Subgun, caliber. 45) and four M16 fifles with alot of ammo. They were hoping to catch the North Vietnamese Army ground supply convoy, moving with pack mules headed to south to the DMZ to reinforce enemy troops there. The PBR was to take them up river, drop them off and then move back down stream a distance of at least 300 yards and wait under cover of their camouflage nets and low-handing branches. The plan was to wait for thier signal by hand-carried radio, or if they heard them with heavier firepower. They broke through to an unexpected clearing. They felt someting strange in the area. There wasn't a sound not even from the insects! It was the same with the animals! One of then men made a sweep and came back to tell them that there wasn't anything alive or moving within 30 meters of the clearing. They were hopped up with the feeling something was very wrong. One of men found a strange fecal deosit on the ground it baffled him. Dropping shouldn't bother anyone where in the jungle was full of everything from tiny mice to huge tigers. What ever was out in the bush was a lot of them or else something really large and clusmy like a water buffalo. Then the spotted at least three of beings.

They were a minimum of seven feet tall, one at least eight feet tall or taller and they were bright yellow. They had large three-digit hands and four inch claws. They thing appearsed to have two eyes, some sort of nose slit on flat faces and audio holes the upper part of the sides of their heads. The yellow light seemed to be generated by these things. The light was unholy and unmistakable. They were massive. They moved slowly across the clearing and passed right by them. The men moved closely to check for foot prints. They were three-toed tracks. They were the same as the hands. He told the men to get the "H" out of there and the Big Yellows turned and charged after them. He could hear a wheezing kind of growl. He knew he was going to die. He was less than 25 feet when he turned and fired. It had snakelike eyes and large fangs. He let the creature have it with everything he had....any man loaded like him was a killing machine. He gave it everthing and it kept on coming. He ran like "H" and leaped into the PBR and hollered for the crewmen to open fire where he came out....powerful wenty-millimeter cannon anti-aircraft guns. The lead creature stayed concealed for awhile. Going downriver seven of the men watched the riverbank area shimmer....a great spray of yellow expanded outward like a silent explosion of yellow fog.....it was nighttime and they could see the incredible yellow glow. No way to tell any numbers of the things. They didn't care they wanted the H out of there.

Several years later David Gower researched everything from anthropological to the supernatural ( like many of us do when we have a strange encounter). He came across a book entitled, The Tomb by F. Paul Wilson. Wilson's descriptions of strange and terrible creatures described what he had seen in Vietnam. He tried writing to him and the publisher but no response.

Read the books.....they are very informative.....good reading. You won't be disappointed. original.gif

Another good read is "Into the Out of" by Alan Dean Foster.....he speaks of a doorway being opened or some kind of tear between the natural and the surpernatural. I tend to believe these creatures are from the supernatural.....the supernatural can look, feel and smell real....to us.

I was into the New Age before it became popular and before it came out of the closet in 1975. I have read numerous books about the New Age, the Occult, the Paranormal and etc. I had a supernatural encounter one of which no one ever heard of or could explain.....almost 10 years later I found a book that told of a simlar experience. I am not here to thump you with the Bible....or change your beliefs I couldn't change your belief if I tried. Life is a series of choices and those choice lead us to where we are and where we will be later....in this life and afterwards.

I am a Christian and I met Jesus face to face when I almost died..... I also had angels come to me and save me on several occassions. Some believe it is mind over matter....or positive thinking. Not in my case. Sometimes I wanted to live and at least one time I wanted to die(couldn't stand the pain anymore!) when I was saved on those occassions. The doctors knew that a miracle had happen in those circumstances. For one thing there was nothing the doctors could do, but try to spare me some of the pain but they couldn't save my life....and within minutes(after Jesus came to see me in the hospital) I was fine. Shocked all the nurses and the doctor. I was on death's door one minute and fine next. Almost finished with a book I am witting about many of the things I have encountered in my life. I have met others who have had similar encounters....I am not alone. I do believe their is decption, dismisinformation and confusion going on in our world both on the physically level and the spiritual involving mankind.

Like I said I am not here to offend anyone.....searching for answers just like the rest of you. original.gif

Thanks for sharing....if anyone has some real good sites or books to read on the subject matter I woud be interested.

Wow. I am a Christian, too, but not a fanatic, and have had many wierd supernatural experiences.
Things are just not so black and white, are they. So many things we don't understand!
Welcome. I've heard stories like yours before, about what you've seen and who has visited you when you were giving up hope. This is the place to talk about the wierdness. Beware, however, there are alot of debunkers. But, I guess they help us think about things, and balance out the fanatics.

When the supernatural hits you "smack" in the face.....it sends you running. Those of us who have run head long into "evil" know what I am talking about....we belong to a special botherhood! Jesus talked to me when I almost died. yes.gif I've even heard of children saying that they could smell Jesus....when they almost died....he was holding them. wub.gif

I read a real cool story that happen in the Middle East....to Muslims. A Muslim's wife died and his children were very little three or four I believe it was two little girls. He was so upset with their crying all the time that he wrapped them up in a rug and buired them alive in the cemetary. They were three days in the gound when another family came to bury thier dead and herad the muffled crying and uncovered the children still alive....and took them to the hospital. They were healthy and fine. The doctor asked them if they were frightened and they said no. They said a man came to visit them daily and feed them. The doctore asked what he looked like and if they knew his name......they said he was dressed in white and he said his name was "Jesus". True story. It is on a web site about Muslims, Budhists and Hindus coming to Jesus. God is really working in that "10-40" window around the world.

God Bless. wub.gif

Not necessarily so. It's actually mind numbingly easy to cover-up an event of this nature; just keep the irrefutable evidence away from the public. In this case, the Lizard creature itself, assuming it was killed.
If the cops did go public, nobody (well, the majority) would take them seriously without hard evidence.

God Bless. wub.gif

Cool story Rabbit, Do you have the link for the Muslims site? Thanx in advance

Hello kenshinx grin2.gif

I did.....did you read earlier about the other stories and books I talked about?

Hello rapid7 grin2.gif

Did you read about the soldier in Vietnam and the other stories and books I talked about? hmm.gif

Question? If it is supernatural....why does it leave the tracks...as in the case with the soldier's story? Queston? how could it leave tracks, but could not be killed with all that firepower? rofl.gif

I do tend to think it is supernatural....did it fly from a different realm into our realm? Come through some portal? Interesting both sightings were seen by two mountains.....Mount Pilchuck and Mount Rainier....Mount Rainer was famous for the sightings of the UFO's which the guy coined "flying saucers". blink.gif

As I said earlier.....I have sat with law enforcement officers as they have talked about sensitive material in a booth at a restrauant....SO....I don't see how difficult that is to jump over. rofl.gif hmm.gif

The only person that I know connected to the story is my friend. The waitress was busy and was not around to hear the conversations. So there is no one wandering around the town except the officals.....the people in the incident were taken away in the military ambulane and everything else was taken and covered on the trucks. People saw the military but though it was the usual manovers taking place. No one seems interested in the Military's presense. They often did manover in that area.

My friend was the only one outside the "loop"....there was no talk about it.....no one else knew except for the law and my friend and she would have not known either if it wasn't for her having lunch that day with her little boy.

And you are right......if she spoke about it she would have discredited and made the fool by those who did not want that information out. Was the fire at the Police Station due the incident? I don't think so. There is a lot of drug dealing going on in that area....that would be more likely but still interesting just the same that it burned down destroying all records.

draconic chronicler
Rabbit Trail,
Thanks for the additional information, 30-40 foot wingspan does make the creatures seem far more plausible. Since you are a Christian, and believe these creatures are real, you may be very interested in my book, becasue the basic premise is that the "dragons" of world-wide legend, and still reported today (as in this case), are the Seraphim and Cherubim of the Bible, which were originally in believed by the Bible writers to be fire-spewing winged reptilian creatures, and when not referred to by their specific offices, are simply call "dragons" throughout the Old Testament as well. The Seraph and Cherub have only been transformed into "winged humanoid angels" later. No angel in the Bible has wings in the Bible. They are always mistaken for humans. On the other hand, the Seraphim and Cherubim are winged, and alwsys referred to as creatures or dragons. To many Christians there are som controversial ideas in it, based on recognizing both scientific concepts such as a long earth and evolution, but also supernatural/theological evidence for we would be blind to dismiss the "unexplained", and I too have experienced a "miracle" or two and should be dead had they not occured.

Hello draconic chronicler grin2.gif

So you are an author? What is the name of your book? I am finishing up my book editing the last half.....400 pages.

There are angels with wings spoken about in the Bible. They are the ones on the Ark of the Covenant that are on top of the box...facing each other with their wings spread. It is called the Mercy Seat.

From Bibical history that I have read....wish I can remember where....dragons have always been symbolized as the devil or evil......no offense.

I do not believe God is a God of confusion and if I did "hard-core" research I think that I would fine the majority of the legends and symbols to leaning toward.....the devil. Could it be that the dinasour bones found could have given raise to these legends? Just throwing the thought out there.

There are so many cultures with so many different meanings to the dragon. The Chinese Toaist revered the dragon as a spirit of "the way", bring eternal changes. I find that interesting.....Jesus Christ being "the way" and bring to the human eternal changes. Humm huh.gif

Then there is the European dragon synonymous with the Ouroboros of Earth Serpent.
Christians usually equated the subterranean dragon with the devil. The devil's nickname "Old Harry" was taken from the Persian dragon-god Ahriman (Arimanius), the dark twin brother of the supreme god of light. Like angelic Lucifer, Ahriman had fought his brother god and had been dwnt down to the underworld to rule over the demoms. Thus dragons became traditional guardians of buried treasure.

Much of the above is taken from, The Woman's Dictionary of Symbols & Sacred Objects.

A book, "A dictionary of Symbols by j.e. cirlot is very interesting about dragons and the different cultures meanings.

Myths and legends have co-mingled with Babylonians, Chinese, Phoenicians and the Chaldeans......Alexander Hislop's "The Two Babylons" has some interesting history about pagan beliefs.

I for one am not a dragon lover......never have.....just a "gut-feeling" thing. I find the stories interesting and entertaining. As far as placeing angels in their catagory......hmmm, not. no.gif If any thing they appear as men. Some very large.....warrior fashion. I had several come to my aid, and save me by instructing me but I never saw them but they were standing by my bedside. Had an angel appear as a man he picked me up. I was over on the Olympic peninsula on a hill side and was taking pictures....I saw some deer and walked over to them. I was about to walk up real close and pet it.....when this big guy....looked like a lumber-jack had to be way over six foot (when I looked back at who was grabbing me)....grabbed me by my clothing around the neck and shoulders and picked me up like a rag doll and pulled me back toward him and set me back on the ground. He said to me sternly, "Do you realize that a deer can cut you open and disbowel you by kicking upward with thier front feet?" Surprised and shocked I said,"NO!" I looked back at the peaceful looking deer...I was kind of shacken up by the abrupt jerking and lifting and as I collected my thoughts (only a few seconds) I turn around to thank the man..... and no one was there! You could see anyone on that hill side for a several block radius....but I did not see the man. I saw some women and children watching the deer.....but no man like the one I had seen. I saw some men down by the cars on the road but not him. Besides it would have taken him several minutes to walk down the hill side and I would not have missed that tall Paul Buyon type of guy.... He just disappeared into thin air. w00t.gif

R.T. If you tack down all my UM posts you will learn a great deal about the book, and the dragons of the Bible.

No, the covering Cherubs were never angels. The reason many ancients culture have dragons guarding a tree of immortality is becasue like a great flood this is one of the "universal myths known to all people". The earliest version comes from Sumeria, where the Hebrews came from, only the cherub-dragon that guards the tree is "good".
These dragons also flank the throne of Sumerian gods, which is how they became known as "covering Cherubs". The creatures on top of the ark were winged "dragons", and they also decorated the 7 branched candlestick connected with the ark. God even rides on the back of these Cherubs in both Psalms and II Samual, and in ancient art it looks like a dragon, for god riding on the back of an angel would look almost obscene.

Yes Satan is a dragon too. The Seraphim and Cherubim both are dragons. When the Jews and early Christians translated the word Seraphim from Hebrew to Greek, the word they always used in Greek was Drakon, which is where we get the word Dragon.

But this is just the tip of the iceberg, and everything I mention can be well proven, not only by the original scriptures, but in achaeological representatins, and even all the related cultures. Fore example, the Egyptians also believed in the Seraph, and it to was a dragon like creature. The monster commanded to swallows Jonah in ancient Christian art is always portrayed as a reptilian dragon with long snakelike neck and big clawed feet. Sometimes you will see these creatures as the Cherubs guarding God's throne in judgement scenes carved on bibles or in ancient Christian churches. At least one of the dragons is usually gobbling up a sinner, and the belly of these dragons was one of the original concepts of hell, until a book by Dante came out the the popular underground Hell ruled by the devil, that people like much better, becasue as the Dante novel shown, it was possible to escape from this hell.

I guess they never told you about this stuff in Sunday School.

It looks like you've done a great deal of research....I have to admit that....I've never ventured into your area and expertise of dragons before so I will enjoy reading your material. original.gif

What are some of the books and articles that speak of this?

Thanks for sharing Drac.

Seriously though, it's an interesting story. To be brutally honest I dunno what to make of it though. Pretty cool, nonetheless. I've become a bit of a sceptic these days (I call myself a HOPEFUL sceptic: I seek answers in the mundane with hopes for answers in the fantastic!).
