Here's a little something to cheer you up after you dropped those 3 points at St James' park.
QUOTE
A Geordie and a Mackem were watching the news on TV. There was a film story about a girl on the ledge of a building threatening to commit suicide. The police were trying to talk her down when the Mackem says to the Geordie, "I'll bet you five Pounds that she jumps."
The Geordie took the bet. Seconds later, the girl jumps. The Geordie takes five Pounds from his pocket and hands it to the Mackem.
The Mackem says, "I can't take your money. I saw the same film clip on the 6:00 news today and knew she was going to jump."
The Geordie says, "I watched it, too; but I didn't think she do it a second time."
Nice one Nick.
Funny because it's true

Manchester United... Nah, don't think so. When it comes to international football I'm all for Juventus.
Though an interesting thing happened yesterday: Halmstad* BK from Sweden kicked Sporting Lisboa out of the UEFA Cup!
*Halmstad, a city on the west coast of Sweden. The city name translates to "Hay City".

Just watched Juve in a Champions league Highlights.
They played fantastic. Great skill, great goals and an all round great performance.

Yeah, and Zlatan FINALLY scored for Juve in the CL!

I don't think Juve will win it though. Maybe if they'd had this squad last year or the year before.
But now Chelsea have reached perfection, Barca have all gelled together, Milan are looking to erase the memory of last year and Liverpool are full of confidence. One of them is bound to take it

Im not sure it will be a good one this year.
Full of surprises.

What a load of b****ks
Mugged by bloody spurs
2-0 up should have been over, we had 3 or 4 chances to make it 3 but let them go. Very disappointed. We deserved the win.
We'll get you on the return leg you b*****ds

Oh well one good thing came out of our match
2 more goals for Bent, with Sven in the stadium. He's
gotta look at him for nexy saturdays game now.
Peter crouch? Peter sodding who?
Darren Bent to start up front with Owen
wrighty
Oct 1 2005, 06:06 PM
Could easily happen.
nick_fury
Oct 1 2005, 06:11 PM
But knowing Sven it won't.
He'll stick Mr Jermaine 'did sod all for 90 minutes' Defoe on or failing that use Peter 'he's tall and plays for pool so he must be good right?' Crouch.
Bah football.
It's a funny old game

Sven Göran Eriksson... Here in Sweden we call him "Svennis", and that just happens to be a slang word for a guy who's a virgin... Anyone reckons ol' Sven's a virgin?
wrighty
Oct 1 2005, 08:30 PM
Frankly I don't care about svens relationships. All I care is that he is letting them get in the way of his managing job.
Lestat34
Oct 1 2005, 08:38 PM
I'm not usually a believer in blaming the managers of clubs, at the end of the day its the players on the field that win or loose matches, but in this case i think Sven has lost the plot with some of the formations he has been using and choice of some players, i think we will qualify for the world cup but dont think we'll do anything once there!!
wrighty
Oct 1 2005, 09:32 PM
Totally agree. We will qualify. But not sure if we will do well. Hopefully semi-final of more.

World Cup 2002: Sweden came out on top of the Group of Death, then Senegal beat us by a Golden Goal.
Euros 2004: Sweden and Denmark kicked out Bulgaria and Italy in the group play, then Holland beat us on friggin' penalties.
World Cup 2006: Same thing again? We play great in the group play and then we get kicked out in the first final? I hope not...

Will Henrik L be playing again? If so you could do well but otherwise your strikeforce looks light-weight, a lone striker Zlatan is not.
Sofia Alexandra
Oct 2 2005, 07:42 PM
Henrik's still around, and there ARE a few other forwards who're pretty good. Marcus Allbäck, Mattias Jonson, Johan Elmander, young Marcus Rosenberg... Mebbe not as much star appeal as Zlatan and Henrik, but they've got the habit of scoring for the national team, so I'm not so worried about our forwards. It's our defence lines that might get seriously weakened if someone gets injured.
(By the way Nedved's scored for Juve tonight!

Oct 3 2005, 02:38 PM
You mean Larsson? I hope so. I just wish the friggin' Spaniards could let him play a few games from start...
But gah, we've got a WC qualifier against Croatia coming up, and suddenly both Ljungberg and Zlatan are injured!
Jake Blood
Oct 3 2005, 02:48 PM
I wonder why Larrson doesn't start for Barcelona.Ummmm.......... Because they are one of the best clubs in the world.Their strikers are much better than Henrik Larrson.Plus hes getting old.And its just bad luck that Ibrahimovic and Ljungberg are injured.Maybe Sweden have a good squad but they have no back up when players get injured
nick_fury
Oct 3 2005, 02:56 PM
Other than Eto'o Barca aren't really don't have that many strikers of quality. Especially since they got rid of Saviola. I think Larsson must be at least 3rd in line, but the way they play in that 4-4-1-1 they only ever run out one striker at a time
Sofia Alexandra
Oct 3 2005, 04:29 PM
Eys, that's true. Larsson's been playing a bit in the last games, but of course Eto'o's the first choice. (

)
And as for it being bad luck that Zlatan got injured, well, did you see what that bastard Materazzi did?
wrighty
Oct 3 2005, 05:55 PM
Eto'o is a great player though.
You can see why he gets first place.

It's kinda cool, all the doctors say Henrik's physique is like that of a younger dude, so he'll probably keep going for another few years...

i think Larsson's biggest mistake was going to Celtic for as long as he did anybody with his calibur can score goals in the Scottish League!! i would have liked to have seen him at a top premiere club, i have a lot of respect for Larsson, IMO he is very close to being the best player ever to come out of Sweden.
Sofia Alexandra
Oct 3 2005, 07:18 PM
*nodnod*
We've got three "SuperSwedes" right now: Freddie, Henke & Zlatan. The only people I can think who might match in star appeal them are the legendary Gre-No-Li of AC Milan.

Unfortunately as he's in the 'twighlight' years of his career I think Larsson will settle for a place warming up the bench at a club of Barca's standard.
Had he been 5 or so years younger then he may well have done 'an Owen' and buggered off to the premiership.
Your always welcome down in south London Henrik

I remember when my club Helsingborg won the Swedish league. I was just a li'l kid back then who didn't care much for sports, but I remember asking my mama if she could get me Henriks autograph...
"oo-i-a, Henke o ja' vi e från samma sta'..."
wrighty
Oct 4 2005, 06:49 PM
Did you ever get it?
Sofia Alexandra
Oct 4 2005, 07:31 PM
Nope.
Helsingborg secured the win in Göteborg, and my mama didn't think they'd come back to Helsingborg that night... Or at least that's what she told me, but now I'm thinking that's bullcrap, 'cos it only takes about 2 hours to go to Göteborg by car...

Im afraid not.
This is English football the best game around.
Sofia Alexandra
Oct 5 2005, 02:04 PM
Or rather, all-the-world-except-USA-football, 'cos everybody calls it football except the Americans, who stick to calling it soccer.
And the Italians, who call it il calcio, but that's them.

yeah staying ata a team where he was guaranteed CL football, which took him to a european final , allowed him to get back into the national squad, was a mistake.
yeah its only the SPL, which "top" premier club are you talking about, because am sure van nistelrooy , henry and co would have had something to say when being dropped for henrik.
Sofia Alexandra
Oct 6 2005, 06:53 PM
Dunno whether he would've been regarded as a "better player" in one place or another, and I really don't care. He liked it in Celtic, so why should he have gone anywhere else?
What's bugging me RIGHT NOW is that he seems to be injured, along with Olof Mellberg, Freddie Ljungberg, Kim Källström and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Dude, we've got an important game coming up, Croatia on Saturday, why the hell are you getting injured now!?

Oct 6 2005, 07:01 PM

MAN U have loads of players out too. All big names.

And for that I thank you
Seriously, if Neville wasn't out Luke Young wouldn't be getting all these England caps
Wun, unfortunately the widely held view in England is that the SPL is an easy ride, and you often hear the likes of
'yeah but even Marcus Bent could score 20 goals a season in the SPL'
or
'pffft not one old firm player would make it into the Liverpool squad'
Sofia Alexandra
Oct 7 2005, 05:37 PM
But then, consider this: The Swedish league, Allsvenskan, is way crappy by international standards, to the point where everybody got majorly surprised about Halmstad's advance in the UEFA Cup. Yet, we've got some good players popping up every now and then. Ljungberg, for example, went from Halmstad to Arsenal. Both Zlatan and Markus Rosenberg have gone from Malmö to Ajax and, in Zlatan's case, on to Juventus.
So just 'cos the league's not the best doesn't mean that all the players are "not the best" either...
Anyone nervous about tomorrow?
