Right, then. It's the business end of the tournament, and it's about now that networks start asking for your choice of best goal.
If you're stuck for ideas, Sport Relief have a video allowing you to pick your favourite from a list of ten, with a video clip of each.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/default.stm#My heart says Rooney's second against Croatia. He runs half the pitch, and cooly slots it past the keeper.
But...my head says Jon Dahl Tomasson's brilliant dipping volley against Sweden.

So...Greece, Champions of Europe.
What a shocker. Or in the language of some UM members...
Like...whoa, dude.Absolutely f-ing well done to the Greeks. You've given the 'bigger' footballing nations a good kicking, and created the biggest shock result in football history.
Except for Graeme Taylor being made England manager, of course. If ever a topic needed to be posted on these hallowed UM pages, it's that one.
I just hope that the big stars like Figo, Sir David of Beckham, Zidane and a fair few others take a long hard look at themselves over this. And I mean in a soul-searching way, not on yet another billboard or TV ad.
22 virtual unknowns (outside of Greece) have mugged the footballing superstars and snatched the second biggest prize in sport. Yes it was bloody ugly, but if our respective nations had won it the same way, hand-on-heart, would we be complaining?
Would we fuc-

I must say - the Greeks played wonderful in this game!
Congruts!
If small countries like Portugal and Greece made it to the final, maybe Israel has a chance too....
Anyway, I take back what I said earlier about the Greeks. As oppose to their other games, this game was interesting, exciting, and wonderfull to watch.
Thank you Portugal and Greece for a wonderfull final game.

Joe Royle has been awarded £422,000 in damages after he launched a compensation claim against his former club, Manchester City.
Royle sued the club when he received only a fraction of the pay-off he was due after being sacked in May 2001.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manches...ter/3870971.stmI'm pleased for Joe, despite the sky blues taking a spanking financially. Managers are treated like crap by club boards and chairmen. The board at City argued Royle was hardly skint. But the sport is awash with money, and managers get a pittance compared to the stars. Yet a good manager can turn clubs around, and get average players performing way above their level. Just look at Greece.
It's nice to see big Joe had the good grace to apologise to the fans for wanting his money. No apology needed, Joe. Had it been down to the fans, you'd have got every penny.

Just spotted these. The Alternative Awards for Euro 2004.
Catergories include Best Dive, Worst Kit, Worst Excuse and Most Over-rated Player.
My fave bit was the worst excuse winners, Italy.
"Someone should be ashamed, and it's not us," carped Gianluigi Buffon after Italy crashed out in the group stages following the 2-2 draw between Sweden and Denmark.
Look, there are more than 20 words in Italian for "fix", and not a single one in Swedish. That's all you need to know. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...004/3859921.stm

Nah, I don't think we will freddyvjason, we already have enough overpayed 'stars' and our new glorious leader has dismissed this as speculation.
At least I hope this is the case; to be honest, I don't get very excited about the possibilty of some 'star' from Europe joing the ranks of the blues anymore.
I think we have demonstrated that the English guys are more passionate (and in a lot of cases better) when it comes to slugging it out in the depths of winter on some windswept Northern pitch, than some fly-by-night mercenary from warmer climbs.

I couldn't face this thread yesterday, because I'm not exactly looking forward to the new season.
I've just been reading an article on the state of play in Premiership transfers, and for my lot, things are not exactly full of sunshine.
FEELGOOD FACTOR: In short supply. More a fear factor after last season and Keegan is working on a very small transfer budget.
UP OR DOWN? Talent in the squad but City's old habit of hitting the self-destruct button means they should be happy finishing around 12th unless Keegan can pull off some transfer shocks between now and the start of the season. Check out the gloomy or cheerful predictions for your own team:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...rem/3889781.stmI'm considering a punt on Chelsea for the title, because the odds for Arsenal are probably pants.

Well cufflink i feel the same. Celtic havent signed a single player this season.
We've been haemorraging players not buying.
Still no Larrson replacement. The board better cough up an give Martin the money he needs.
I also read that time magazine called the Old Firm game "the most evil game in football".
I understand the hatred fully and the disgusting secterianism thats rifew in this fixture.
I know all too well about the bigotry abd violence after the games.
However,
The Big Game in Argentina between Boca an River has a much worse problem in violence terms that of the old firm. Mind you thats not really the way we should look at it tho.
Whatever you say if the sectarian element was lost from an old firm it would take the edge away from the game right or wrong it wouldnt be as appealing.
I think it was a little unfair, Understandable but not well researched.

I agree with you on Old Firm games, Wun. Take away that intense passion to do over the others, and a large part of the atmosphere is gone. I remember watching the games on the Beeb last season, and each was like watching a cup final.
And the violence in South and Central American footie is much worse than in the UK and Europe.

Although english fan wen abroad are given a worse press , british football fans in general are given an extremely unfair representation by the rest of the world , especially in our domestic games.
On any given saturday between all the games i bet in each country on an average day the arrests could be counted in one hand.
It is only in exceptional cicumstances there seems to eb trouble.
Dont get me wrong its horrible in glasgow on old firm day, an awful feelin of tension an hatred. normal people just loose their heads its almost tribal , thankfully tho the police have become experts in calmin and controling the way the fans are integrated.

Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi could buy newly-promoted Crystal Palace, according to newspaper reports.

He said that as yet there had been no formal approach from Gaddafi, who already owns 7.5% of Juventus.

The papers put two and two together and got seven, as usual, Wun.
Nicolas was talking about his time in France and Spain, particularly in away games, where there was a lot of abuse dished out to black players.
The City fans adore Anelka, and the fans favourite, Shaun Wright-Phillips, is black also, so like a lot of City fans, I was mystified by the story.
I think it's the press down here sh**-stirring, as usual. We had stories about him falling out with the manager and leaving, the other week, yet the guy has a great relationship with Keegan.

This story has been on the local news all day.
Chester City have been served with a winding-up order by Customs and Excise over alleged unpaid VAT.
The Conference champions were issued the petition on 16 July and officials must attend a hearing next Monday.
Chairman Stephen Vaughan said: "This situation is historic and we are having dialogue with Customs and Excise."
Meanwhile, Boston have contacted the Football League claiming Chester have not paid the final payment of striker Daryl Clare's performance-related fee.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ter/3910737.stmIt's a sickener, and I think the football fans of Chester have to take a long hard look at themselves, for not giving the team the support it needed.
