I just installed XP and there are black bars on each side of the screen:

Is that an actual screenshot, or a mockup you did?
I'd say you just need to adjust your monitor, but if it shows up on a screenshot that's obviously not the case.
Maybe try adjusting the screen resolution in XP?

OK I fixed it using the adjust and select buttons on the front of the monitor cabinet.
