Full Version: [Solved] Forum Rules?

Why is it that nearly every topic here about illegal drugs gets closed? I have been looking through the rules and have found only one set of rules dealing with illegal drugs.

"3: No illegal content - Links or requests for pirated software or 'warez' are strictly forbidden, as are discussions promoting illegal drug use, hacking or other activities which are violative of any law." Forum rules and guidelines.

Some topics may be taken to promote illegal drugs use; however, most of them are just asking for an opinion upon illegal drugs. If this is against the rules than shouldn't the rules be updated?

"16: Unexplained Mysteries reserves the right to change or add to these rules at any time, and in any situation the decision of an Administrator is final." Forum rules and guidelines.

So in these circumstances it is up to the administrator's decision? Isn't that just a little bit wrong? If an administrators friend makes a topic it is less likely to be closed than if another person makes it?

This topic absolutely violates no rules and my point will just be proved if this topic is closed for questioning the power's that be.

Well first you should have PMed a mod or an admin for your questioning of the rules.

A lot of drug discussions go in the direction of illegal goings and/or a making it legal discussion which well is against forum rules at the mods feel fit to use.

I doubt it's going to change because some druggies want to talk about drugs all day long. wink2.gif

Even talking about legalizing a drug is not promoting drug use.

While yet it still nearly always heads down the road. It's a setting up for a problem, why not nip it in the butt befor it gets to that point?

Wanting to legalize a drug is not promoting it? blink.gif

I agree Kratos. Pointless to discuss.

BTW, nobody ever said UM was a Democracy, lmao.

Topics describing the taking of illegal substances are unsuitable for this forum, this is not a drugs web site, and the decision to disallow such discussions is not up for debate.

Topics which cover drugs in general, for example a country passing a law to legalise a drug or the medicinal benefits of a drug are acceptable, so long as they avoid describing or promoting drug use. If members start reeling off their own drug taking experiences then that will likely get the topic closed however.

The rules apply to everyone, but I do reserve the right to make a final decision on any issue which crops up on this web site.

Actually this topic does violate the rules, see rule 15.
jgorman628
Well look at that, I drew Saruman down. I am not in violation of rule 15.

15: Please respect the moderators decisions - Our moderators put in a tremendous amount of work and use up their own free time to keep the forum a safe, friendly place to visit. As such, please respect the decisions of the moderators, and take note if you are asked not to do something. Topics started solely to complain about a moderator's actions will be removed, if you have a question relating to action taken by a moderator please contact either the moderator in question or an administrator. Likewise, losing your temper and being offensive towards members of staff is a sure-fire way to get yourself banned. The moderators have a lot to do, please co-operate with them as best you can.

This topic is not to bash the moderators, I am just questioning the decisions made by moderators. My point is made though. You saw something you didn't like and here comes the vultures. Close this topic, I really don't care. Close my account doesn't bother me. I am a master of skirting the edge of laws and rules. I know when I break a rule and I know when I am close to breaking a rule. This topic is close to breaking the rules, not breaking them.

It's called moderating the forum, something we've been doing here since day one. We see something unsuitable, we deal with it. It's standard practice on most internet discussion forums. If we didn't do it you would really have something to complain about.

SaRu, all you guys are great and the only reason I've kept coming back. thumbsup.gif

Since someone else brought this up, what about all the names and avatars with the drug references and paraphernalia in them? Just curious. thumbsup.gif

If you know of any that we've missed, please let us know.

Remember that it's the promotion of drug taking that we don't allow, not anything to do with drugs full stop. The topic of drugs in itself is acceptable within reason.

Thanks Michelle. thumbsup.gif

As the original poster has nothing else constructive to add, I think I can safely close this topic. If anyone has any other questions relating to the acceptability of drug related topics, please feel free to send me a PM.

Thanks.
