Shadow People/Creatures are definitely #1 for me. So mysterious.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_people#2 would probably be Hydra, because I like serpents, and heck... It's a 9-headed immortal monster that grows back two heads for every one it loses. What's not to love?

But, hmm... I'd like to say 'good people' are my favorite mythic beast. Heh. The great unreality.
Seconded by the Catoblepas. You can't beat Catoblepas. Oh, and Baldlanders may be in there too...

i have 2 favorites that i cannot decide betwen, the werewolf and the vampire, the werewolf with its untamed fury and iron will to do what it wants and not obey anyone else, the brute strength of these creatures just appeals to me, and the vampire, incarnate of evil as some people say, survives living off of others, hides among the living, just to pick them off, to me they are so...interesting, i dont know why, but those 2 have to be my favorites

That's creepy!!
I would have to say that my favourite would have to be the monster birds in America that I heard about.
That gave me nightmares...and had a hand in my fear of magpies.

My favorite is Pegasus. What do you want? It not only flies...but you can ride it. And if you start to fall, you can always grab the horn on its forehead.

Iv'e always been fond of the mythical beings that inhabit dwellings, such as the Brownie or Domovoi. To me it would be cool to have a little being running around my house cleaning it and protecting it from evil spirits. I'd just have to treat it nice and leave out food for it. (although some have very certain rules and restrictions so say the myths....)
I don't know, I just always found them cool, and underappreciated in the legend category; seeing as how so many beleived in them in the old days.

Just for the record, the Thylacine is not a mythological creature. Neither is the Pleidiasaur.
But I think that if I could be a mytholigical creature, I'd be a Leprachaun. The gold, the green, the glamour, not to mention those sweet, sweet, leprachaun women! Leprachauns are small enough to hide, innocent enough not to get taken down by some hercules dragon slayer, and rich enough to get humans to do their bidding for them!

I don't think Pegasus had a horn Ethyl, just a winged horse that kicked serious ass

Ah yes, the Mexican Goat Sucker! A classic!
I'd have to say my favorite mythological creature would be Big-foot. He was a loner who hated the popular mosters, yet longed to be one.

another fave of mine is Nessie, the alleged monster of loch ness. i especially like the Wetherell Fiasco, with the daily mail and all that, he was such a raud, but a good one, he fooled the nation.
he was also involved in the surgeons photo, when that gyno from lodnon got a photo of the monster. it was only revealed as a hoax on wetherells stepsons deathbed as a hoax, whcih to me i think is devotin, even if it is a bit stupid. overall kudos to you maramaduke, youve done us proud.

My favourite monster is the one that lives in my backyard (well, the lake in my backyard), the Igopogo (aka Kempenfelt Kelly). It's too much fun, having your own dog-faced Nessie wanna-be less than 20 feet away!
Other than that, I was raised on stories involving the Daoine Sidhe and was threatened more than once with a visit from a Púca... You can bet that kept me in line!

Not to mention the stories about the fear dearg... Yeesh, even 25 years (or more) later, they still give me the shivers!
