Full Version: How is the False Prophet identified?

I'm curious how many here have pondered the identity of the False Prophet? If so, who, what, and where do you believe this entity to be?
NiCkC818
I know him. He will have a great destiny. He will give power unto the beast. He will demand worship of Satan. Antichrist is the ambassador of Satan's to Earth. The False Prophet will demand that people take the number of Antichrist (666) on their right hand or forehead. I believe he will be a pope. He will come to power when Antichrist takes hold of the EU and moves the capital from Brussels to Rome. Then, the False Prophet (the pope) will be elected, and they will dominate the world.
JMPD1
what is he?

He is the collective fear of the future, wrapped in the mythological trappings of religious fervor.

A celestial boogie man, designed to keep the faithful in line.

In this instance, I probably have to agree with JMPD. Well written post, mate thumbsup.gif

Biblically speaking, the only proof we have of a specific False Prophet (capitalised letters), is Revelation, and I for one hesitate to base any doctrine solely on the words of that particular book.
Luminary
Well Zionists/Israeli's are the followers of Satan(according to the book of Revelations) and Israel is where the antichrist will rule the world from. The antichrist is Satan himself, it is not a mortal man for no mortal man can ever be the antichrist. He will come to Earth most likely in a space ship of sorts and will stun the world causing many to stumble while strengthening the convictions of the righteous. Israel is what you need to pay attention to if you want to await the arrival of the antichrist because the Israeli's are the ones working to make way for his grand entrance.

Thanks PA, every year or so, I manage to come up with something intelligent original.gif

I would like to think that by now you folks would know that I'm not an agent of evil! wink2.gif
Hypathia
I used to think about this stuff a lot; I was really into the phropecy and "end of times" thing when I was a Christian.

Now I think the whole thing, 666, the anti-christ, the false phrophet was about things going on in Rome during the first century. People had to be careful what they said about the empire back then or they'd end up being the entertainment of the day getting butchered at the Colessium.

It's all ancient history; not a future event.
RisenPrism
Yeeeahhhhhhhh... don't buy the "ancient history" business.
RachelM
I agree with JMPD. Which, in a freakish way means that I agree with PA. *GASP* The horror!

Now all I have to do is sit and wait for the sky to come tumbling down. grin2.gif grin2.gif grin2.gif

I do have to say, though, that when I read that the False Prophet was a boogie man, I got the song "I'm Your Boogie Man" stuck in my head. This means that there's going to be a lot of unattractive disco dancing going on at my house tonight.

I am a Christian. But I am also human. The book of Revelation is a highly symbolic work, with massive amounts of imagery and numbers and beasts and cups and seals and horsemen and trumpets and more. Because of such symbology, I cannot and will not base a doctrine solely around the contents of that one book. There is some theological truth to be gleaned, especially from the early chapters (ch4-5 in particular are great for that). But look at it like this. Every generation since the text was written Christians have claimed it means something different. Every generation of Christians has thought that the End Times it speaks of would happen in their lifetimes.

I love reading Revelation. I love making hypothesises (Hypotheses? what's the plural?) about the text, I love analying the text and from an intellectual standpoint, discussion various points of belief. But with the range of differences in symbolic meaning, how can I get any more than just the vaguest outline of what's happening. It's like reading a piece of poetry. If you look at the broad themes, we can generally agree on that. But as soon as you look at a particular image, there are hundreds of different interpretations, and the only important one is the one intended by the author (though modern textual criticism tends to think the author's intention is irrelevant, only the readers interpretation is what matters).

Any time I make a definitive statement about Revelation, it's because I've found supporting evidence through other parts of the BIble. But for the most part, I tend to take the broadest outlook possible on the text, and try not to get bogged down in semantics. It's semantics that lead to extremism, I've found.

Hope that helps, Mr Pres thumbsup.gif

Regards, PA

Mr. President
Oh ok, PA, when you said book I thought you meant Bible, not revealation.

Although written in cryptic language, we know a couple of things that this entity does, which should give us some clue to its identity.

1) Like the prophet Elijah, the entity somehow makes fire come down from Heaven in the sight of men, but it's an artificial miracle. In other words, it's counterfeit fire from Heaven ... of man, not God.

2 Kings 1:10 - Elijah answered to the captain of fifty, "If I am a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty!" Fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.

Rev. 13:13 - He performs great signs, even making fire come down out of the sky to the earth in the sight of people.

2) The entity inspires men to create an "image" or idol with the curious power of speech, that will cause men to worship the entity which inspired it.

Rev. 13:14 - He deceives my own people who dwell on the earth because of the signs he was granted to do in front of the beast; saying to those who dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast who had the sword wound and lived.

15 It was given to him to give breath to it, to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause as many as wouldn't worship the image of the beast to be killed.

Keeping in mind that "great" implies BIG and,"in front of" implies close proximity, we would expect both of these "signs" to have their origins at roughly the same place on the earth. Also, what else has mankind made with his own hands in his entire history, that could be described as an "image" with the curious "power of speech?" wink2.gif IMMEDIATELY before Israel became a state in 1948, two important or "GREAT" things appeared on earth.

For the record, I have no desire to start a new church with this theology. Nor do I wish for, or believe in rebellion. Quite the contrary, repentance is my only message.

The closing argument is simple. If we only have one generation from the time Israel is reborn on the earth, until Jesus sits on David's throne, then we'd better start looking for these curious "signs." Failure to do so puts us in far greater peril.

A fair and good argument, but what's your theory? In addition to the false, there will also appear the true, but such is the state of the people's deception by the "signs," that this will be the CURIOUS outcome of their ministry ...

Revelation 11:9 - From among the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations people will look at their dead bodies for three and a half days, and will not allow their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb.

10 Those who dwell on the earth rejoice over them, and they will be glad. They will give gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.

11 After the three and a half days, the breath of life from God entered into them, and they stood on their feet. Great fear fell on those who saw them.

12 I heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, "Come up here!" They went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies saw them.

"Gifts" imply that despite the torment, there will still be a little wealth to go around.
It also sounds like Christmas time on earth.

The False Prophet will tell you, "don't worry, be happy." Look therefore, for the one who tells you that all Hell is about to break loose. Rudolf will be helping deliver the "gifts." wink2.gif

You mean something like this?

[Taken from the Hanno Temming article on the Forbidden Letters.]

QUOTE
There is no broad, light and safe path to paradise. It's the rape of the Resurrection and the terror of the Night of the Soul, a dark, narrow and dangerous path, to quote Jesus, that is going to do the trick. And no uninvited man passes the flaming kundalini-sword of Eden safely. But whoever does, will be overcome through the Great Work of Alchemy in the end. And once that is done, he will reign over the universe timelessly with Christ, his new microcosmic head. That is the core of the Gospel, the Good Message.[under Forum-name]

Oh, I can attest from first hand experience that It is possible! The only difference was that the whole time I was being deceived I knew It was "the great deception" deep down inside where the holy spirit lives..BUT There was a time when I almost Chucked it all away to chase after the "beautiful LIE" and it was Sweet.. And since we have the free will to choose which path to take I almost choose the darkness disguised as light.. It is without a doubt the NEW AGE movement! PEACE is what they preach.. Love and Light.. Divine plan...Jesus was just a master as was Buddha Gandhi and the likes...I have walked both paths and Jesus is the only way! The only way to real lasting peace and love and light! There is turmoil and angst on the other path.. maybe not so much after you have walked so far into it!

Monotheism. Is a false oracle and the first sign it's prophet(ic) father of lies.

I'm pretty sure the Prophet Mohammed is the anti christ.

If you look at the heads of the most pious Muslims they have a mark on their forehead. Did you ever notice that?

Its from laying their heads down on the rug.

The Mark of Prostration.

Jesus said ... Many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He!' and will mislead many. Mark 13:6
He never said you had to worry about one or two, because it is the "many" that have deceived this generation.
GoddessWhispers
So then what's it say of the jesus savior god that said "I am he" after so many other savior gods that came thousands of years before, saying the same thing!? (much less, as he warned in that passage, after!) All born of a virgin, in a manger or barn or the wilds, were known as savior gods to their people, and performed miracles. Died for the sins of the world and rose from the grave, promising to return one day and save the world from itself in the end of days?!

What is to be said of him, jesus , that came after all those others. If "first and only" really means anything to credibility?! Then jesus would just be playing copy cat, rather than an original.

Prophectic symbolism has been a key to understanding the old testament as well. Paul even wrote to the church that these things were "Types and shadows" of things to come. If we believe that "all scripture is given by inspiration of God, then why shy away from the book of revelation?

People in this age have castrated God, but He is about to wrench the kingdoms of the world until nothing but sorrow is heard. Nothing but tears will be tasted. Nothing but famine will be felt. Nothing but the wind, blowing poison dust across a barren landscape.

Nothing but shadows, chasing whispers of promises ignored, and hopes hailing Hades remembered.

And I bet it makes you all tingly inside, knowing that your god is going let "them" have it it, right?
Such a devastatingly dismal outlook on the world. To think that "only god" can make the world a fit place; that humans have no say or duty to work for peace and prosperity for us all.

Is that truly what the christians believe and hope for? "Don't worry about THIS world, cause it gets better in the next........if you are 'chosen'"
It sends chills of dread down my spine to think there are people who crave the end of the world.
Scare_crow
It sends chills down my spine, to think that "good" people can ignore this 21 gun salute; as if God is somehow castrated and cannot ejaculate fire into the solar system, which is

His time piece.

The question them becomes, who's attention was He trying to get and why?
