When I try and watch a video on a website, I want it to play with Windows Media Player, but it won't play. I can only hear the audio. When I go to websites such as Youtube, I can watch the video fine. I have VLC downloaded too, just extra information.

I'm not sure I totally understand. This is just any video you click and windows media player opens by default? Or is this a video you downloaded and want to watch specifically with media player, and it works on other players? Does media player do this to every video you watch or just one specific video?

My best guess given the information is you need the proper codec to play the file. This thread may help.

Uninstall VLC player. If that doesn't work you may need some codec's for your Windows Media Player.

Do these videos use the Media player plugin in the webbrowser?

It's only when I watch clips online. I don't download them.

I'd aim to answer this one next, make sure it's media player the site is trying to use. If it's quick time or something different, just download the newst version. If it's media player, I'd look to microsoft website for updates and "optional" updates relating to media player.
