a couple of times a week when i'm just about to drift off to sleep, i'll hear voices. wacko.gif it actually wakes me up every time, but when i wake up i can't remember what was said. sometimes it will even happen several times in one night, and it keeps waking me up and i have trouble sleeping. it seems like its a group of people having a lively chat, not scarey or threatening or whatever, but it still totally weirds me out. is this just a dream type of thing and nothing to worry about, or what? does anyone else experience this?? blink.gif i swear i'm not schitzo or anything, this is the only time i hear voices...lol

Hi mika, i hear those voices also when im fallin asleep. I hear different people talking and sometimes they even call my name out. I'm not sure if its a dream or what but i dont think its anything to be afraid of w00t.gif
Alex01
Woah. Did you visit a doctor?
RollingThunder06
Have experienced voices when the house is quiet. To me it is like radio station that just isn't tuned in just right. At night sometimes, when drifting off, it is noises I hear. Not all the time but when it happens it is all night long. I really don't know if all this is due to stress but the conclusion I have come up with.

Hello Evil Mika!

I know exactly what you're saying i've had the same experiences since doing some lucid dreaming experiments. It's just meaningless chatter and yes it awakes you.

I call it dream audio, because basically it feels like a dream starting too soon right on the border of falling asleep with only the audio. It dosn't feel scary or odd and i'm pretty sure it happens to alot of people and is quite common.

Hope that helped.
pagan_jedi_girl
Yeah I agree with the above, that seems rather likely. I get these too, occasionally, it is just random pieces of conversation or voices of people you know. Just the brain organising your experiences, like dreams.
Mysterious Molecules
Yeah one time i could hear my girlfriend say "Hello" in danish to me... Hardly scary wink2.gif

I think it's very common and that's a good explanation

ah-HA! that makes a lot of sense! thumbsup.gif

thanks for the help everyone! grin2.gif i've been afraid to ask anyone about this IRL, i was afraid i would sound totally crazy, lol.

I tell you what I tell everyone else if this happens to you and you fear it see a doctor. I'd love advice from this forum, but it don't always help. See A Doctor I know that would be my very first move. thumbsup.gif
evil_mika
i don't get it, why are some people telling me i should "go see a doctor" when everyone else is saying it's common and it happens to them? huh.gif

i'm pretty sure there's no need for a doctor. it doesn't happen every night and i'm not sleep-deprived and suffering because of it. maybe i made it sound worse than it really is?sometimes it will happen a couple times a week, sometimes months go by without it happening.

I dont think you need a doctor. Its very common. I hear them, my boyfriend does to. I relax and try to hear what they are saying. yes.gif Can be funny.

There was another thread about this. It is common and nothing to worry about. I believe it's called a "hypnogogic" hallucination and many people experience it, I do too. Apparently, it happens when there is a lot on your mind or you go to bed stressed.

Now, if you're hearing blaring voices telling you the world is going to end...then I would suggest seeing a doctor. original.gif Otherwise, if you listen to the voices it can be quite entertaining because of some of the random things you hear.

This is what I don't get. I have had A LOT of stress A LOT of the time. My life can be very stressful, and I myself can create that stress too. Still means I am stressed regardless.

Why don't I hear these things?
Akidenko
I hear those voices too. Very clear, and it's not people I know or things I would normally hear while awake. Could be a brain thing, as someone suggested, but sure doesn't seem that way.

You know, the other thing I often hear, drifting off to sleep? Music. Songs that, as far as I can tell, have never been written. No, it's not the clock radio or a passing car. The music is coming from inside my head. Nice tunes, too. Maybe I shouldn't complain, saves me from buying an I-Pod.

lol, anyway, I was dead tired about a year ago.. as I was up late on the computer, I heard the strangest sounds and music. Outside I could faintly hear the wind chimes.. but I think my mind wanted to hear a different sound.

You see, when the brain is tired.. I believe that it tries to make sense of everything still. So, every sound at night will sound like something strange, because you associate night with spookyness etc.

Well, back to the issue at hand - as I got off the computer and went to bed.. my brain made sense of the background noise - it sounded like a conversation, just plain babble. It was really interesting to hear this "babbling" noise, so I imagined myself listening more intently. And then a few minutes later, I heard my name whispered quite loud into my ear. I immediately opened my eyes, not surprised or anything, not scared, but just wondering what I had heard.

To this day, I try to reenact conversations in my mind.. to see if it happens again. Either the forces are at work *looks at clock and sees 11:11, lol* or it's just a figment of the human brain's imagination. I still wonder if I'll get picked up by the dead, you can imagine how freaky it can be.. but I will keep trying for the sake of UM!

its called sleep paralysis, even tho u may still be able to move your body...ur mind is just drifting off to sleep and sometimes ur dreams may enter ur conscious mind...

Nope sleep paralysis is different. You cant move in sleep paralysis. "Hypnagogia (also spelled hypnogogia) are the experiences a person can go through in the hypnagogic (or hypnogogic) state, the period of falling asleep. Hypnagogic sensations collectively describe the vivid dream-like auditory, visual, or tactile sensations that can be experienced in a hypnagogic or hypnopompic state. These sensations CAN be accompanied by sleep paralysis, the sensation that the body is temporarily paralyzed after waking or before falling asleep. yes.gif

Hi. I just joined with the soul purpose of solving this mystery. I have the same problem once in a while. I hear babble mixed together right before I hit deep sleep, then most of the time I wake up wondering what those voices were and where they came from. A friend of mine finally enlightened me as he had the same problem. He researched and found out that these voices are the remainder of the chatter we zone out during the day. Has anyone ever talked to you or asked you a question, and you answer subliminally with your mind turned off to them not even thinking about it. these voices are all of these things you zone out compiled into what feels like a second or two. PLEASE E-MAIL ME IF THIS ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS EMAIL ME!!!!

it ussually comes to me when im listening to the sound of the soundless night...but i always fall to sleep when im bored to it......
i think it just happen when you focus on voiceless night...
Skepticaldude
Ok I know why this happens. It's the same reason we see things when we dream. I'm sure you all know how our eyes move about at certain times during our sleep and how this is when we dream. Well when your asleep, did you know your eardrum actually virbrates? Thats right. It is why you hear things when drifting off to sleep or whenever. It can create all sorts of noises, including speech, and people sometimes hear their names being called out.

Mystery solved.
Mr.Dot
Maybe your mind unconsciously uses its telepathic ability when your asleep? w00t.gif

Not seriously tho tongue.gif But since no one asked...
Full Of Secrets
Its your subconcious (sp?) trying to tell you something that your not ready to hear. But that is only if you dont understand the words they are saying. Except your name.

If you do, then possibly, some form of telepathy you are catching on to, or im not sure entirely what else.

Oh, btw.
once in a whlie, before I fall asleep, I hear screaming in my head or ear. it feels like both.
I asked a good buddy of mine who knew alot of things about your subconcious (sp?) so thats how i learned what it is.
HeatherB
I tend to hear chitter chatter while falling asleep. It normally doesn't bother me, although there are a few times that have. It is always the same thing, as I am drifting to sleep a male voice sounds like it is right IN my ear and says HEATHER! Sometimes it sounds angry and other times it just sounds like it is cooly saying my name. I dunno, but it always wierds me out. I never know if it my imagination or not, so I appreciate reading that others experience this lol original.gif
DarkWolfSpirit
This happens to me, i hear people shouting me, or one time i heard someone i didnt recoginse whisper my name..

whats worse is if your alone in the house and drifting off, it happened to me when i was in on my own and freeked me to death
LostInThought
I think sometimes when we fall asleep a part of our body enters the astral. So maybe as you dozed off your astral ears were hearing things from the astral plane but you didn't astral project or anything you just fell onto sleep. It happens, I've had it happen a couple times myself. Mine are usually when I'm first waking up I hear someone say my name and no one is there.

You naturally Astral project when your asleep.

Anukis
i believe it is a very common thing. Sometimes i hear chattering, or else music, and even birds chirping mellow.gif curious thing is that when i lift my head off the pillow, this noises stop, and they continue once my ear touches the pillow again. So what i concluded is that it some sort of ear vibration making the noises, or else my brain creating audio hallucinations(?)
someoldguy
Nowadays about all I hear is the ringing in my ears, especially at bedtime. But if I heard voices, it would be no time for sleeping for me!

This is likely more of a flashback, but one time I did "hear" a small-caliber gunshot beside my bed as I was drifting off to sleep. That did wake me up, to say the least of it. However, there was nothing to be seen, so I just wrote it off to stress. I didn't sleep well the rest of the night, however.

Meta Knight
hey evil mika i have the same experience to while im in bed but im not scared of it though original.gif

Yeah, I have that same thing happen to me too. Good to know I'm not alone. :3
I hear people laughing too. Sometimes it kinda scares me, but it wakes me up almost every time.

OH yeah. I hear music too, in my head. I never heard it before. It ranges from classical to rock.
Anyone have this part?
werewolf_moon
I've had the same thing happen to me. I'll be going to sleep, then all of a sudden, someone talks or laughs right into my ear. I think it might be past loved ones just stopping by.
omerta
I get that too.
sometimes when im drifting away I'll hear someone yell my name or scream, and its a really haunting scream. Kinda like they're getting murdered. It creeps me out.
injungirl
I have had similar experiences. I have heard people talking, children singing, someone calling my name. Some voices were scary. But I was really surprised when I started hearing pepople talking in Chinese. There were no Chinese living in the neigbourhood. The voices didn't stop till I moved to a new house.

This will make you feel better....I went in for a psych eval as a prerequasite for a certain surgery...anyway...the doctor asked me if I ever hear voices...when I told her yes...while falling asleep or soon after I wake she said that those do not count. Anything you experience within the first 20 minutes before or after sleep would not be concidered unusual. So...you do not need to see a doctor.

This happens to me alot...I actually get very scared because many times it sounds like the voice is right in my ear...to the point where I can almost feel someones breath but as I open my eyes I realise there is no one there.
theParaCommentaries
I have that experience as well... Sometimes when we think they just chatter, they're actually speaking different languages.
I've learned Spanish, French, German, and Latin, and that cleared up most of it, but some of the chatter is in some odd, unknown language.
Also I've read cases (don't ask me where because I'd never be able to remember) where someone who naturally talks in their sleeps will sometimes mimic the voices.
When confronted with what they said they replied "I heard that too!" and are flabbergasted when the case workers say "You said that."
Blondigeist
I've been hearing 'voices' as I fall asleep since I can remember.
Now, I wouldn't be able to get to sleep WITHOUT them!
