I had an expereince a few days ago that was pretty strange, read carefully because it's a bit confusing. I have two cats--different breeds--Sammy and Murphy. Murphy was sitting at my right and I thought my other cat a few feet to my left. When I actually looked to my left it wasn't my other cat, it was in fact an exact double of Murphy that was sitting to my right. He saw it as well. I looked back and forth 4 times before I was sure what I was seeing. After that forth time I saw it "melt" into my other cat--the tail grew, the face changed etc.. He vomited right after. Murphy was frightened of Sammy most of the morning. I had a simular experience once before along with my mother and grandmother. My grandfather cam through the front door walked through the house and went into the bathroom. He had a funny look on his face and didn't say a word. He was in the bathroom for a long time and we started wondering if he was sick, when my grandfather suddenly walked through the back door. Needless to say we were doubfounded and asked how he got out of the bathroom. He looked just as confused and told us he just then arrived home. We opened the bathroom door and, of course, the bathroom was empty.

I'd like to know what this type of thing is called so that I can do some research into it.

Best I can think of is dopelganger. However, the cat melting into one another... I dunno.

That's very strange. The cat thing, though, is doubly strange because cats rely on scent to identify others, rather than visual clues. So Sammy must have smelled like Murphy as well as looked like him. And Murphy, understandably, was confused as to why his scent was coming from this other cat. Very weird. Thanks for sharing, I'll be thinking about this for a while!

I wonder if the vomiting had anything to do with it. I hope Sammy is okay now.

Unfortunately, the visual of melting and altering of shape reminds me of a schitzophrenic episode description. If it continues to take place you may need medical intervention.

Well. The only logical explanation I can think of is that there's a glitch in the Matrix. Beware.

I agree. Should something like this happen again, you should go and see a doctor
and make sure there is nothing physically wrong with you before you consider this
as something paranormal.

But if that is not the case, you might want to consider it as a case of over-active
imagination.

If you read her description carefully it says that she, as well as her MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER all saw the doppleganger grandfather image at the same time. I believe her.

I'm not trying to start anything, but if you *read carefully* they were referencing the cat melting deal, not the grandfather...

Edit: Plus, I don't think anyone has said that they don't believe that the OP saw this, just questioning WHY the OP saw it... I may be wrong, however.

I agree with the dopelaganger theory. I had a situation like that with my dog. (no melting though that is creepy!)

Believe me, I questioned my sanity the whole day and beyond. But what makes me feel it wasn't "just me" was that the experience scared Murphy so. First the way he was looking at the other Murphy and then after. Murphy seemed afraid of Sam. Sam and Murphy are best buddies and Murphy wanted nothing to do with Sam for most of that day.

Nothing about this case sounds like a poltergeist.

When you see double it doesn't mean its a doppel.
Can your mind go to that room and feel what's in there?

I had a similar experience when I was a kid.

It was about 3am in the morning and for what ever reason I couldn't sleep.So I decided to take a trip over to my sisters room to bother her and wake her up to chill with me....when I got to her bed I put my hand on her shoulder to wake her up ..but felt two people in the bed...needless to say I was scared out my witts!!..So I turned around and flicked the light on as fast as I could...and what I saw amazed me...(this is 100% true)..there were two identical versions of my sister lying in bed...I sat there and stared for what seemed like 10 minutes as one of the versions of my sister melted VERY slowly away...freaks me out to this day...don't know what it was ..or what caused it ..all I know is it happened!!

I understand that seeing double doesn't mean dopelganger by default. What is a better description for the phenomena then?

However, none of what the OP describes fits poltergeist activity, which is what my reply to your initial response was about.

I read somewhere that death follows you everywhere and takes the form of the identical you. You cannot see it but sometimes you feel its presence (like when you feel someone is behind you but they are not)

They are always with you until the day you die in which you then see death, could this be an answer (as far fetched i know and i t was somthing i read on a weblink)

I have already posted it a few months ago sorry I do not remember the title I gave it. I think it was called "The Dog"

In short I have 2 dogs one stayed outside in the back garage one night. I got up between 2-3:30am to get something to drink when I walked to the kitchen I acknowledged one of my dogs who was at that time sleeping by my front door. It concerned me though because he got up and looked as if he was going to almost attack me he looked clear through me as if he had to stop to think about who I was then he just stopped when I called his name and told him basically to chill.
When I went back to bed I didn't pay any attention to him then freaked out when I realized as I closed my eyes that HELLO he was suppose to be outside! Went back to the living room and he was not in the house. I went outside to the back garage and there he was fast asleep.

I'm having a guess at this, but it could the astral body that is seen. Like when astral projection happens. For some reason it becomes seperated for a short while and conditions are so that it can be seen.

Well the cat melding thing is new.

I'm going to disagree Anvil, purely because astral travel doesn't seem to have a component where people in the 'real world' are interacting with the astral traveller. Plus, do cats astral travel? I could very well be wrong, but, blahbity. lol.

Your story about your Grandfather reminds me of this article I read some time ago on the Society for scientific exploration website link.

The author calls the phenomenon "vardogr", a nordic expression for the doppelgaenger phenomenon. The idea is that a person can be capable of sending ahead it's own "image" before he/she arrives herself. Hope that helps...

As to your morphing cat, no idea whatsoever; first time I hear of such a thing. Most interesting!
