So this girl who sits next to me in lunch drinks a monster everyday, and she claims that she heard from somewhere, if you drink 3 Monster Energy drinks and then run as fast as you can you will die becuase your heart wont be able to handle it or something.

Now i dont reeeeally believe this, but there is a warning on the back of Monster cans, maybe if you drink 3+ then have some sort of an adrenaline rush, like running away from a tiger or something, maybe then you could die from heart failure but im still very unsure.

Has anyone ever heard of this?
Tooth_and_Claw
nope never heard of that no.gif

i have a brother and i bet if i place some money in this he will gladly drink 3 mosnters and ill let my dog chase after him, not a tiger but it can run pretty fast and bite pretty hard.
or i can just place his Ps2 on the back of a car and he'll will run after it.
Accident

caffine CAN kill you, but it requires a lot like 200mg per kilogram of body weight.
LizFL
I seriously doubt that it would kill just whoever tried it. Maybe specific people. There are such things as caffiene allergies. Also, over time, caffiene can be bad for you. I am the perfect example. I live my life for coffee. Since I was 20 I have drinkin a minimum of 3 pots of coffee a day. I have always had really low blood pressure and no health problems. Now, 6 years after my addiction started, I am having chest pains, heart murmers, high blood pressure, and anxiety attacks. not too normal for a 26 year old woman. I have cut back to one pot a day, and it is really hard to do, but my blood pressure has gone down. Of course, caffiene addiction is one of those things that most people dont take seriously. But I've tried to quit. It gave me all kinds of horrid symptoms. I had pains in my stomach, vomiting, headaches, mood swings you wouldnt believe, blurred vision, inability to concentrate... it is a real drug people.

Have heard that story for about two years now. Haven't heard anyone that it has happened to though.

i heard somewhere that it takes 500 canes of cokes to kill you, it was on a caffein suicide site where it listed all products that contained caffein and how much it takes to kill someone including everything from caffein mints to chocolate....

180-200 cups of coffer has enough caffine to kill you (unless you're fat), but that's over 25 gallons of coffee

With that much caffeine in you, you'd be most likely to die from running through a wall based on the caffeine high you'd be experiencing

Energy drink

A variety of energy drinks are available; the skinny "bullet" can shape is popular.Energy drinks are beverages that are designed to give the consumer a burst of energy by using a combination of methylxanthines, B vitamins, and exotic herbal ingredients. Energy drinks commonly include caffeine, guarana (extracts from the guarana plant), taurine, various forms of ginseng, maltodextrin, inositol, carnitine, creatine, glucuronolactone and ginkgo biloba. Some contain high levels of sugar, or glucose while most brands also offer an artificially sweetened version. Often manufacturers add a very small dose of a powerful stimulant such as carnitine, but the doses of these add-ins are usually so small that any added “boost” is purely psychological.[citations needed] These drinks are typically marketed towards young people, students, people 'on the go' and those who play sports

Criticism

Addiction potential
The only possible physically addictive ingredients in most of these drinks are caffeine and guarana, which cause physical addiction in large doses or with prolonged use (quantities in energy drinks are comparable to amounts in coffee). Since withdrawal from both is usually mild, mainly involving headaches, addiction to energy drinks is mostly psychological.

Parents' groups have criticised energy drinks as being irresponsibly marketed to youth, citing possible health hazards (see below), but to date very few fatalities have been reported from overconsumption of energy drinks.

Health hazard
Little conclusive research have been published so far on the health hazards of energy drinks. However, their high concentration in ingredients such as caffeine and taurine worries certain parents and some medical specialists who suspect that long term use may cause unwanted side-effects. The Red Bull article section has more information on mortality and dental risks. On the other hand, there is no consensus on the existence or lack of health benefits as well

Potential Health Risks (Red Bull)

In 2001, the drink was investigated by the Swedish National Food Administration after being linked to the deaths of three consumers. It has been subject to a number of other health concerns regarding glucuronolactone, a precursor of taurine. Sale of Red Bull as a normal soft drink is prohibited in Denmark, Norway, France and Uruguay. Due to the link with taurine, local authorities categorized Red Bull as a medicine and suggest customers ask for medical advice before drinking. Because of this, only energy drinks without taurine are sold in France. The official imported Canadian Red Bull is a caffeinated version of Thai Krating Daeng. Until late 2004, its sale was prohibited in Canada. Now a can must carry a warning label that says:

Cautions: Contains caffeine. Not recommended for children, pregnant or breast-feeding women, caffeine sensitive persons or to be mixed with alcohol. Do not consume more than 500 mL per day.

However, no such warning label is present on cans sold in the UK, though people who consume the beverage in excess (more than 2-5 250 mL tins in a 24-hour period) have been known to express discomfort, such as nausea, stomach pains, gas, and/or sleeplessness.

British supermarket chain Morrisons refuses to sell Red Bull to customers under the age of 16. In Finland, some shops only sell 1 canister of the drink at a time to under 18 year olds. Attempting to buy 2 canisters or more requires customers to prove their age, as if they were buying alcoholic beverages.

Red Bull made the news in Ireland after two hurling players died after drinking Red Bull at half-time in a club game.

Doctors and nutritionists have warned of the dangers of mixing caffeine and alcohol in excessive quantities. Their warnings, however, are often unheeded as many people feel that the benefits of mixing Red Bull with alcohol far outweigh the risks and use stimulants such as caffeine in order to avoid getting drowsy while drunk. Mixing Red Bull with alcohol (most commonly Vodka and Jägermeister) has become increasingly popular among college-aged crowds and club goers. Heavier drinkers of alcoholic Red Bull drinks have cited "euphoric feelings." Many studies have been performed to determine the actual effects on the human body after consumption of Red Bull with alcohol, most finding solely that the mixing of a depressant with an energy drink can lead to abnormal heart rhythms and future heart problems.

I've heard of cases in Australia where people have been hospitalised suffering from heart palpitations and irregullar heart beat from drinking too much.
I must admit as a stupid teenager a few years back now, I used to drink about 6 cans of red bull for the hyperactive effect. Swinging off verandas was a favourite. One time I felt like my heart was about to beat straight out of my chest. I felt woozy and slightly sick in the stomach. Suffice to say I stopped drinking it. grin2.gif

Stone Cold Steve Austin managed to wreck himself by drinking four or five energy drinks a day for years...coupled with caffeine. However, given he was downing several of them, and then going out and wrestling 30-40 minutes matches and it didn't kill him, I'd assuming this rumour is nonsense.

His body did, however, really start playing up...in fact, just hours before his last match, he was lying in a hospital bed because his body had gone into near shutdown mode thanks to all the gunk he had been drinking over the last few years. Obviously, Stone Cold was suffering from a lot of other injuries too...a surgially repaired neck, knees that were dodgy at best, and a host of other problems, so the energy drinks weren't the only thing that led to his eventualy near miss, but they certainly didn't help.

Overall, energy drinks are just like anything else - excess of anything is probably bad for you.

I'm caffine sensitive so I have to be careful. A little bit is ok from time to time but to much in a row can play havoc with my sleep and cause me mood swings, So I'm not a regular user ...

I could easily argue that most pro wrestlers also use steroids.... hmm.gif

That Korean kid however who died playing a WoW marathon on his computer probably was drinking energy drinks to stay alert.

Redbull taste like total sh*t anyway i couldnt drink 3 sips let alone 3 cans . devil.gif

Col Kurtz, good on ya. Stick to water.

But I started out drinking energy drinks because they tasted better than Coke LOL tongue.gif People should be looking after themselves properly, not through a quick-fix means. Of course there are going to be consequences.

'most' says he? tongue.gif Don't be absurd. Most of the big companies do random drug tests, and fire/suspend of force into rehab anyone who fails them. A few wrestlers have in the recent past, been found to be steriod abusers...but how you manage to turn perhaps half a dozen names into 'most wrestlers' is beyond me.

Damn clueless mainstreamer.

That is how I feel when I drink Red Bull aswell before going to my Martial Arts practice. The feeling lasted for about 10 minutes though, so it wasnt that bad.

Even though Vince , owner of the WWE kind of broke his own rule on the drug testing. When news got out that pro wrestler Randy Orton was taking non prescriptive pain killers in his dressing room, he was suspended but then released early because he was a 'main eventer'/'the future of the company' in his eyes.

last friday, me and myfriends were sitting in lunch, and i was sitting next to my friend who had an un-opened monster, and if your familiar with the can, recently theres been a little mans face prined on the back of the can, and my friend didnt like it so she started to scratch it off, and then *POP!shhhhhhhhhhhsh!* it sprayed all over us, mainly in her eyes, and she couldnt see for the better part of two days, also, it looked as if we had urinated on ourselfs...

it may not kill you but it can make you temporarly blind for a some time and make you look like you pissed your pants...

Hmm, guess I'm the oddball, I love most energy drinks, even though I hardly EVER drink soda. After reading all that though...I'm seriously considering not drinking the energy drinks anymore. I used to be a waitress, working 50+ hours a week on my feet, so Sobes, Rockstars, and Red Bulls seemed like the best choice to be able to do it without passing out , rather than mini thins like some of my co-workers were taking. Guess sometimes the lesser of two evils is still a bad choice hmm.gif

I think the only one I like comes in the pink can. TAB I think it's called. Haven't had any energy drinks since I've gotten pregnant though. I would never drink more then one a day any way.
Blackguitar016
Ok, I know this topic is old, but I think I have some useful information.

I drink 2-6 red bulls a day. I'm what you could call an addict. But it red bull, so come on, it's not as bad as a lot of other stuff. I've had 8 red bulls in an hour before, and I'm still here. I played dodgeball for about 15 minutes imidiatly after doing this, and I didn't die. And it was some intense dodgeball. I felt some major chest pain, but no heart attack or anything. I'm not saying that it wouldn't give someone else one though.

Lets review the facts:
1) I drink at least 2 red bulls a day, so I have a tolerance
2) I had 8 in on hour and felt perfectly fine
3) I did an instese activity imidiatly after doing this.
4) I'm still alive

After doing all of this I'm pretty sure another 15 minutes or 4 more red bulls would have killed me.

So it's not hard to overdose on red bull, and to answer the question of topic, It is possible to kill yourself by using red bull.
majik
I bought by the case, drank 4-10 per day and the only thing it hurt was my wallet. The stuff seems to be addictive.

Hopefully they won't kill you, as I'm a big energy drink addict (though I don't drink Monster very often.) Even if it won't kill you, I really wouldn't recommend drinking 3 energy drinks in a row, as they increase your heart rate very much and are loaded with sugar and a pleathora of other things that are bad for you. I actually drank 3 red bulls in a row once, and it made me feel sick. It might actually kill you if you have bad heart trouble to begin with. Either way, they're really bad for you so I try not to even drink one every day.

Affliction
Yeah there was some guy in my class was worried he was going to die from drinking three V's (another energy drink), I'd say you would have to consume a lot for it to have any adverse effect. I remember reading about a girl in the paper who died after mixing energy drinks with alcohol (when energy drinks were quite new) , but at the rate that it's done now I'd say amphetamines most likely played a part in this.
Relle
Mmmmm, Tim Horton's coffee! Now there's an addiction!

I tried Red Bull and vodka. Blech! Not my style. I'm stick with an ice cold Canadian! I don't see the thrill of energy drinks. Of course, I'd live off of milk, coffee and water and I'd be happy!
