Hey, I just signed up to the site. My only other experience with message boards is with a local musicians board. Reading the rules, it said there's no vulgarity, harrasment, meany-ness, disgusting comments, etc...
So, just so I'm clear, do they take that seriously? Do I need to be nice all the time? Not like I'm a huge jerk or anything... just incase it comes up in the future... like, lets say someone says something like they like Nickleback or something, am I aloud to say they're a douchebag? ...Just want to be clear before it comes up in the field...
Oh, and Hi, I'm maudlin! I'm new here, pleased to meet you all!

First of all Maudlin, welcome to UM...second of all, your freedom of speach here is quite intact. That does not, however, equate to freedom to abuse other members

You'll probably work out pretty quickly who can take things in good humour, and who can't...but you certainly won't get immedietly kicked off the boards if you call someone a...douche...bag...O.o
In general, we try and keep things civil...although there can be some topics where nerves get a little frayed, and patience wears a little thin, outright insulting of other members usually isn't tolerated...my advice: tread carefully until you get a feel for the people.

I'm sorry... but we do not allow words such as "david", on this site. If you want to stay here, you will have to adopt a new name. Either Anathopoly... or Newgent.

Welcome to the site.

Ok, so I'm not auto booted off for saying in appropriate things, but people can report me?
In other words, I could be vulgar with those who take it lightly, but if someone wants, they could complain and get me in trouble with the powers that be?
Thanks for the replies btw...

Well, yeah, someone could report something you said, but so long as it was pretty obvious that whatever you posted was meant to be in good humour I think you'd be okay...the mods around here can (and often do) dish out the pain...but they've got a sense of humour.
Yup, only one...they share it. Currently, it's Subby's turn. I think he's giving it to Burnside next week

lol
Abusing anyone, or saying things inappropriate... is just that... inapropriate

I'd say not to get too personal, a little friendly banter is ok..... But I'd stay away from unfriendly banter, and we do expect a "lack" of vulgarity.

Welcome to the forum David. Don't worry, the moderation here is rather lax. As long as you're not posting random things in thread to offend people in various manners, you should be just fine.

If you break forum rules your post will either be edited by a mod or forum leader or the post will be deleted. You will be notified of the infraction either on the tread or PM.
If you are unable to moderate your own performance after several warnings we will notify the Mod squad

Hi mauldin. It is only in style here to make inappropriate and abusive comments about President Bush. You'll be real popular if you do.

Have fun.

There are young members, young as ten and stuff, as well as older members whom come from a different generation but are so very cool. think about range pitch and perfect pitch and youll be like our musical sevants here , a genius. ha

Best advice I ever heard given was. If you wouldn't say it to your Grandmother, don't say it at U.M.
Mind you it depends on the Grandmother in question.
Irish do we sacrifice Grandmothers?

We don’t discriminate! Grandmothers are fair game. I know I’m married to one.
Grandfathers’ however we make them watch re-runs of I love Lucy until they sacrifice themselves.

Don't let the mod's kid you, it is a dictatoriship in here.
Freedom of speach does apply, but it is limited, some things offend the mod's. Freedom of expression is allowed, but it's also limited.

My Grandmother was very cool. Some of the things that were said to her would not be best repeated in public. Certainly not where people under 18 can hear.
And By the way...
