(sorry, computer keys suck so I got a misspelling, its McDonalds)

Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Todd Haley is suing a suburban Dallas McDonald's, claiming his wife and the family's live-in baby sitter found a dead rat in a salad they took home and began to eat.

The lawsuit filed Thursday in state district court seeks $1.7 million in damages, The Dallas Morning News reported on its Web site.

In addition to Haley, the Cowboys' passing game coordinator who got in a well-publicized shouting match with receiver Terrell Owens earlier this month, the suit was also filed on behalf of his wife Christine and the family's au pair, Kathryn Kelley.

A message left for McDonald's Corp. spokesman Walt Riker on Thursday evening was not immediately returned. The company is based in Oak Brook, Ill.

According to the lawsuit, Christine Haley and Kelley had eaten part of the salad purchased June 5 at a McDonald's in Southlake before the rat was discovered. The women became violently ill and endured long-lasting physical injuries, the lawsuit said.

Believed to be a juvenile roof rat, the rodent was about 6 inches long and was found on its back with its mouth opened, Scott Casterline, a spokesman for the family, told The Associated Press.

He said the women didn't find it until taking the salad home to eat, and that a manager from the McDonald's "didn't offer any comfort" after driving to their house to investigate. The suit was filed after the restaurant didn't follow through on promises "to make things right," he said.

"The family needs closure," said Casterline, whose family's law firm is representing the plaintiffs. "It came to a point where you have to draw a line."

Ken Lobato, owner-operator of the McDonald's in Southlake, told the Morning News that he hadn't seen the suit and couldn't respond.

"Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our customers," he said. "We maintain the strictest quality standards. We take these matters seriously and are conducting a full investigation to get all the facts.

"In my years as an owner-operator, I've never seen anything like this."

In the Cowboys' loss to Philadelphia on Oct. 8, Owens was seen screaming at Haley on the sidelines. Owens later said his relationship with Haley was ruined, but then said after his three-touchdown game against the Texans on Oct. 15 that there was mutual respect between the two.

I would think it was. This time there were pictures shown on Fox news.

It was pretty much furless, with all of, what looks like, it's grey fur matted in a ball on it's middle.
Its little paws were up in the air. Poor thing.

But still, no more salads...EVER..
AtlantisRises
Its not hard to put a rat in the salad and then say it came from McDonalds.

So I agree... Probably fake, Just a bit of publicity.

I know I've eaten a lot of weird things in my life... But I don't think I could eat rodent unless I was in the middle of nowhere and starving. Even then... I'd try to find some wild fruits to eat first.

I draw the line at rodent. I think I can handle bugs... *Shudders* But don't count it.

Gross!

I was at mcsh*ts yesterday after coming back from the fair, and with limited money I was forced to. I have to say, it was the most disgusting I have ever seen it. Burgers were dripping with grease, black burned bun, cheese was outside the bun... and to boot, there was cheese thrown that stuck to the window, chairs upside down, fries on the floor, trays on the floor. No food educate once so ever. I felt like a chimpanzee.

But after talking about it, i crave it. So damned addicting, that food. Must resist for another month...

You know... That's not a bad thing. *Winks* After all, if I was forced to live off the land because of getting lost in the woods.... I think I'd want to spend the time high. And since I don't doo Shrooms.

So if you went to Thailand, you wouldn't have one of their fried rat on a stick? *chuckles*

I wont deny that McDonalds loses its appeal after the age of 10, and that now it tastes like McCrap. But a one time event that could have happened anywhere is no reason to freak out or demonize the Golden Arches.

True. It all depends on the area and the cleanliness of the restaurant too.

Hey, hey, hey! Mcdonalds is delicious... Sometimes. =D

Down here we call it Micky D's.(lol) And our Mcdonalds looks nothing like other mcdonalds. It's not even red and yellow.. And it's clean as hell inside as well.

I think I had a burger that had pink or gray in it once.

That's why I like Chipotle.. If there's a rat in it you'll see them put it there tongue.gif

Pink in it would just mean that it's not fully cooked.

I am skeptical. A whole rat? Its not like McDonalds has these ginormous salads? And they found it when they got it home? Sounds a little fishy to me that she didn't notice a six inch rat in her salad.
LostLittleGirl
Definantly sounds like a hoax.

Specialty dish in China:

Live baby mice dipped in boiling oil and cheese sauce.

Sounds horrendous to me.

Oh, Coldethyl! DON'T tell me! I can't handle it........that's a picture that is worse than finding a dead rat in your salad......Which, by the way, seems impossible that they didn't see it at McDonalds. I mean a six inch long rat? Does that include the tail? I once found a slug in my salad... well, really it was the next day and I found it next to the plastic container the salad was in. There was plenty salad left, and the slug was totally denuded of any slime, and there was NO place else it could have come from. Ugh. Wonder if it had had a friend that I DID eat.

Why do they seem to do the most horrendous things to animals in the Far East?

I've eaten squirrel. It's not horrible...just stringy. Just cook the heck out of it.
I ate(ugh)half of a fried grasshopper once in Panama.
It was like a greasy, gamey french fry. With a large bug-head attached to one end.
It wasn't horrible either, it just wasn't for me. My travel pal ate fifteen or more. thumbdown.gif
Rodents over bugs anyday.

Some bug cookbooks Yum...I think..
BurnSide
The Salads are made by hand. I would think it would be extremely difficult to wind up with a rat in one, since the Salad container itself is barely bigger than a small rat. I smell a hoax, it's all too easy these days to get a decent lawyer and get rich quick by suing corporate entities.
AtlantisRises
The Rat meats probably of a higher quality then that which is usually in a Big Mac at any rate.

I just find it hard to believe. What would be the long-lasting physical injury, never to eat a McD's again, might be a good thing? If I could file a law suit every time I barfed I would own more than my share of liqueur companies.
One of my father's first jobs was at a deli, he told me, this guy used to come in and be a real a** hole. One day he put a dead mouse in the guy's sandwich. He said the guy took a big bite of it. He got fired, but he didn't care the war had started and he joined the army. My Mom used to get mad at Dad for telling us that story, but I learn from it, I always check out my restaurant food before I eat it.

I wouldn't touch a salad anywhere eating out - it can be worse than meat for germs as it's handled and not cooked

This gets me on bad toughts. wacko.gif Puke time!

It's not that hard to believe that something like this could happen in a fast food place, my friends a few years ago found worms in their fish and chips. wacko.gif Yeah that was kinda gross. And then about maybe five or six years ago, my teacher told my class about a time were a old student of hers told her about he and is fellow employees finding a tarantula in a crate of bannanas. blink.gif This was at a local Safeway, they had to send it back were they got if from because of that ugly eightlegged freak. I know now why I hate spiders too. Yeck. So hearing something like this happening at McDonalds, it's not that hard to believe.
