user posted image rUFO sightings and alien visitors tend to be solely the reserve of sci-fi movies. So when a former MoD chief warns that the country could be attacked by extraterrestrials at any time, you may be forgiven for feeling a little alarmed. During his time as head of the Ministry of Defence UFO project, Nick Pope was persuaded into believing that other lifeforms may visit Earth and, more specifically, Britain. His concern is that highly credible sightings are simply dismissed. And he complains that the project he once ran is now "virtually closed" down, leaving the country "wide open" to aliens. Mr Pope decided to speak out about his worries after resigning from his post at the Directorate of Defence Security at the MoD this week. "The consequences of getting this one wrong could be huge," he said. "If you reported a UFO sighting now, I am absolutely sure that you would just get back a standard letter telling you not to worry. ''Frankly we are wide open - if something does not behave like a conventional aircraft now, it will be ignored. "The X-Files have been closed down." If these words had come from a sci-fi fanatic, they could be easily dismissed by cynics. But Mr Pope's CV - he was head of the UFO project between 1991 and 1994 - cannot be ignored.

When he began his job, he too was sceptical about UFOs but access to classified files on the subject and investigation of a series of spectacular UFO sightings gradually changed his mind. And while Mr Pope says that there is no evidence of hostile intent, he insists it cannot be ruled out. "There has got to be the potential for that and one is left with the uneasy feeling that if it turned out to be so, there is very little we could do about it," he said.

We'll just see how this pans out, but first blush says its suspicious when someone sells books on a topic he's trying to legitimize and glamorize. Also its still just someone's word which in this day and age of mental apathy and overall inability to make logical assumptions without obvious and numerous cues it is still not enough.

Okay he complains that his closed project leaves us "wide open" but admits we'd be useless against attack anyway.

The main aircraft he mentioned was triangular in shape, and was seen over a military installation.

The main reports of UFO sightings in Britain have come over or around military installations. Even the USA has one in Scotland.

The main reports of UFO sightings in America are near or around military installations.

There was one instance where a "triangular" shaped craft was spotted in western Illinois and eastern Missouri. It made huge headlines.

But one of the main things that nobody seems to mention is the fact that Scott Air Force Base is right smack-dab in the middle of where the aircraft was sighted.

The F-117A Nighthawk was in operation for the U.S. military in the late 70's, early 80's. But we didn't find out about it until the Gulf War started.

If people can't put two and two together here, then I really don't know what else to say.

IT'S PROBABLY MILITARY AIRCRAFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

devil.gif I agree truthseeker -- truthseeking is rarely found, even on the UM. For instance, one only has to study the numerous grounded occupant cases to realize these are not military aircraft. Not unless the military are also breeding a great variety of humanoids as well. In any case, the stealth fighter cannot glide silently along with no sound, and neither can any other terrestrial machinery. Silence is a nearly universal characteristic of real UFOs. No sound. So Saruman was right to put this case on the forum.

w00t.gif Star travel is not possible for those of evil intent. This is the solution to Fermi's paradox. It is by the power of mind that they Jump Lightyears or levitate soundlessly. See Best Evidence.

ph34r.gif If UFOs had wanted to invade Earth, they could have anytime in the last 1.5 billion years, when we had water, oxygen and dry land. But they didn't, so don't expect them to do so now, especially since they carry no weapons. Foolish fears become the nightmares of crackpots and dictators.

To be fair to Mr. Pope, the quote from the headline does not appear anywhere in the article. It is not possible to discern the context of this statement, or if it was even made by him. I have read his post and writings elsewhere and have -never- known him to be an alarmist about the subject. And if one takes any lessons from the US, the closure of Project Bluebook back in 1969 did not spell the end of the US Defense departments interest in UFOs. They simply put up a brick wall. This is well known. Even when it did exist, it was simply a method to disinform.

"The Ministry of Defence is bedevilled by a culture of secrecy"
-Peter Kilfoyle, Former Defence Minister

Same situation here. And Mr. Pope knows this, which is why I doubt the headline is inaccurate in reflecting Mr. Popes true feelings. Remember, were selling newspapers here folks.

As to name calling and one liners....well, you know... rolleyes.gif
