what is the name of the place, some where in the middle east. this big entrances cut out of the rock. huge facades of buildings cute in the stone of the ridge.

I recall reading that the civilization that build Petra held out against the Romans. Also, they used the place as background scenery in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
