A few times a year we have houses get donated to us to burn down when the houses are going to be torn down for new construction...We get a chance to practice putting out housefires and take the time to study the effects of fire on different kinds of structures without worrying too much if it gets away from us. We learn a lot and get a to have a good time.
When the fire got going, we get sent in the front door to go put the fire out; after it is out the next team does the same...we do that until the structure gets so damaged that it isn't safe to be inside. This is my team making entry to go put out the fire in the family room that is showing through the roof:

I didn't get to see it, but outside the window where the fire was rolling out there was a lot of turbulance. When I was going through the pics I looked at the following and it looked like a dragon in the flames...

Once the fire gets too far, we just let the place go and take pictures and watch it go...We took a few photos in front of the fire, and this one turnd out pretty well...I am second from the right in the back, with the flashlight still on...

Usually we actually have a bbq at the fire, but this one was at night and didn't end until about 10:00pm, by then everyone was too tired to do anything but cleanup and go home...on top of that there was freezing rain outside and everyone knew we were going to be up all night long with car crashes on the freeway...

People just see the role of the firefighter as the guy that runs into a flaming building pulls out the owner and puts out the fire.
These guy's are constantly training, in Health and Safety, they educate schools and community's, can you imagine being the first to get to a major road pile up and cutting injured victims out of cars while trying to keep the alive, a suicide attempt where the individual has doused himself with petrol and is ready to light himselff up, fighting forest fires, bush fires for 2/3 days and after major earthquakes or natural disasters..... there are major issues with the mixture of paints, chemicals, turpentine, bleaches etc... that are dislodged and start mixing together to become toxic or flammable..
Great Job. Fluff.
