In 1973, the News of the World published an interview with Rev Donald Ormand about his encounter with a “human vampire”.

Donald was asked by doctors to help out when a 22 year old man with a history of attacking people with his teeth or nails to get at their blood.

“The 70 year old priest pointed to his own marked lips and said “It was the most terrifying experience of my life. One moment he was talking quite rationally. The next, he had leapt at me – his face was diabolical. He scratched my lips and had to be overpowered. He openly admitted that he got an ecstasy from sucking blood. It might be only a coincidence –but it’s curious that the man’s mother came from Transylvania – the very place Dracula is said to have lived.

Dr Ormand, of Honiton, Devon talked to the man after being approached by psychiatrists at a Scandinavian nursing home. “I had previously worked with them as an exorcist.” Dr Ormand said the man had attacked other patients in the home. “What is even more terrible is that his victims then betrayed signs of the same vampire tendencies. I exorcised him, the day after he attacked me, with salt and water, and with those prayers which are used by the Church in such circumstances.

“The next day he could remember nothing of his vampire history and the doctors are so convinced that the evil has been exorcised that they wanted to release him but I suggested they should try to get him to stay as a voluntary patient for another six months. I cannot rule out the chance of re-possession.”

Since flying back to Britain, Dr Ormand has been in constant contact with the doctors. “Its curious that Dracula is another name for the Devil, but this was the first time I’ve come up against someone possessed by this vampire evil.”

That's a new one to me, The name Dracula(in all of the literature I've studied) was Romanian just as the word "Drac" has a dual meaning:

King Sigismund of Hungary, who became the Holy Roman Emperor in 1410, founded a secret fraternal order of knights called the Order of the Dragon to uphold Christianity and defend the Empire against the Ottoman Turks. Its emblem was a dragon, wings extended, hanging on a cross. Vlad III’s father (Vlad II) was admitted to the Order around 1431 because of his bravery in fighting the Turks. From 1431 onward Vlad II wore the emblem of the order and later, as ruler of Wallachia, his coinage bore the dragon symbol.

The word for dragon in Romanian is "drac" and "ul" is the definitive article. Vlad III’s father thus came to be known as "Vlad Dracul," or "Vlad the dragon." In Romanian the ending "ulea" means "the son of". Under this interpretation, Vlad III thus became Vlad Dracula, or "the son of the dragon." (The word "drac" also means "devil" in Romanian. The sobriquet thus took on a double meaning for enemies of Vlad Tepes and his father.)

Now I could see how they might get "Son of the Devil" out of the name Vlad Dracula....but only to propagate a myth....it was not a name given beacuse Vlad Tepes and his Father were "devils" or anything supernatural.

I agree, there has been a need for the spewing face. I've wanted to use one more than once....... wink2.gif

Is it just my computer, or is the selection window (for the emoticons) too small for everyone?

And, yes, I know this is off topic.......

I'm not a vampire expert, but didn't think you could be possessed by the vampire, but that you became a vampire. Just a thought huh.gif

I seem to remember they could use mind control and put you into a trance and make you do kinky things with them like have sex on vaults in cememtaries, for which you do have to bear any moral responsibility since you had no choice. That might be the possessed.

In that case where do I find these vampires?? devil.gif

^^ Don't you mean "where do I find these vampires that do that AND look like Johnny Depp??"?
