hi .. i'm new here ( 3 days old ), was introduced by a friend to this site. was in the chat room but nobody seems to chat about sighting or haunting. and then someone recommended me to post some thing, maybe someone will reply ... lol

well .. my topic asian vs western haunting is not meant for argue, debate or offend anyone. just a topic so that people can share stories, experiences, understanding, bla bla bla

i am chinese from malaysia and believe me .. chinese born to be superstitious and malaysia ... too many folk, fairy tales, mysterious and haunting places due to war before.

i always get excited when people wanna share stories with me, not that i am creepy or crazy but i find it interesting. how come ? why ? really ? all these questions mark start to pop.

personally, i have couple of haunting experiences, mysterious experiences, plenty of stories to share and know enough to share
do i believe in ghost ? i THINK they exist .. but personally have not seen one.

i think asian haunting are more evil compared to western .. what do u think ?

i guess i will stop here .. will see how this topic goes and hope to hear from u all soon.

Why do you think Asian hauntings are more evil than hauntings in the west?
cookiemonster

yes .. personally i feel that asian haunting are more evil than western.

i've surfed around this website .. viewed some posted photos and videos. no offend, the western ghost don't really care if u take their photos or look them up.

over here, if anyone catches any sighting, and IF the ghost know, the only solution is run as fast as u can. they attack.

you don't see asian camp out in our cementary, not like western. nice peacefull but asian cementary, creepy, creepy and creepy.

I think it will all be the same, regardless of where one is living.

i noticed western haunting are just soul, ghost or spirits roaming around the haunted place, they don't really bother anyone. not like asian haunting places. i think if the place is haunted they are always grudge spirits.

As i posed in a different thread... when I was in japan (1 year tour with the Marines) I had a black spirit or something rush me and basically put me to a sleep.. well sorta as I was still consious and felt it sit on my chest.

My girlfriend at the time told me that spirits were known to be out alot around that time of year and it was just probably curious of me. (i don't remember what time of year it was as this happened about 15 years ago)

From ghost shows ive seen and stories ive heard, yes, it does seem like Eastern hauntings are more evil than Western hauntings. For one reason, Eastern cultures are alot older and ancient than Western cultures. So that means there are more ancient buildings in the Eastern culture and older places seem to be more haunted than newer places.

Asian hauntings are perceived as being evil in films (Take the Film "The Grudge" for instance), in Western culture they're more perceived as friendly (Casper!)

Asian hauntings make better movies.
Cold.
You think like alot of people do -- even though they have never actually seen a ghost, they still have firm beliefs that they exist.

hey cookiemonster im from singapore, im chinese too grin2.gif i think asian hauntings are more evil because much of south-east asia like malaysia and singapore were occupied by the Japanese in World War II and there were plenty of executions during that time. People believe that the ghosts of Japanese soldiers and Chinese resistance fighters still linger in many parts of these countries.

cookiemonster, i believe you've heard of the pontianak? its a common female banshee in our countries. have u any stories of it to share with us?

-- Well, if we think of this as in terms of "cultures" it might bring some clarity. Asians or minorities that come from traditional or spiritual backgrounds are more likely to believe and live in that spiritual, mystical religion or culture. So, I wouldn't be surprised to believe that ghosts or spirits of foreign countries or cultures are more hostile, aggressive, and or are more prone to make themselves known. I don't know if that makes any sense, but honestly, I think that all ghosts are ghosts...but we also really have to consider the pastlife of that spirit and what happened to him/her, etc, etc...to really consider the aggression, character, personality of that spirit and so forth.

If any one has any ghost stories or experiences, or any "Asian" ghosts in particular, I'd love to hear them.

Differences in hauntings and ghosts are DEPENDANT on the cultural upbringing, and definition of what a ghost is to the person experiencing the supernatural phenomena. It has nothing to do with the "ghost" itself. Evidence of this can be seen when comparing ghostly stories and folklore across the globe, as well as the differing views held by numerous people having the same "ghostly experience".

my parents and relatives are all from malaysia. My parents are the only ones who came to the states and had me =).
getting back to the point, my relatives had plenty of ghost stories when they were little... but refused to tell them... except for this one

you're not suppose to go out in the middle of the night especially when you're young. someone/thing will try to call or make a noise and attract you... the next thing that happens is that you're on a milk carton. my uncle supposely heard this noise and couldn't take a piss for the rest of the night

a few of my friends went back to malaysia and their grandparents had told them ghost stories and more seriously in a ... well... serious tone to wear protection charms at all times...

western ghosts deal more with just them popping up and making you crap on yourselves... whereas asian ghosts make you end up in a mental hospital.. or so i would think

i would like to know more ghost stories if possible

*NOTE* i do not believe in the paranormal... but i'd like to find definite proof to change my mind

I would tend to agree with this being the reason why. Cultural differences lead to different perspectives and the way stories/urban legends are told and passed on yes.gif

Maybe asian people are just easier to scare tongue.gif

I would also say its a cultural thing, if you believe ghost are evil, then i think you will get a worse experience, than people who dont think they are evil, or at least percieve the experience as worse. And in a culture, where ghosts are considered evil, it might also be easier for people who dont think they are evil, to get a bad experience, because of the whole atmosphere there is about it, in that certain area.
