The stories I found goes:

Back in the fifties, a young woman had been in a fire.
the Donkey Lady had lost two childen in that fire,
and that her husband had started the fire. She was left horribly disfigured.
It was said that when her face healed, all the skin had something of a drooped,
baggy appearance. Her fingers had all fused together, leaving dark stumps, or
hooves. Disfigured and totally insane, she stayed mostly in the rural areas
of Bexar (pronounced "bear") County and terrorized anyone who approached her.
They say if you look @ her she'll attack you

Someone from SA wrote their experience:

"The tales that I have on the Donkey Lady are not directly related to me, however they were relayed to me through friends in highschool. These are people I have known all my life, and have no reason not to believe them.
One night in late 1987, while at my best friends house, four fellow companions showed up. Bored and looking for something to do, we suggested they visit the "Donkey Lady Bridge". This local was only a short drive from the house,(5 or 6 miles) and was a local favorite amongst late night stories. They agreed and were soon driving out of sight.
About six hours later, their vehicle returned to our driveway with only one occupant. Assuming he had taken the girls home and was ready to party in S.A., we went out anxious to greet him. What we found at the car was something I'll never forget; The windshield was busted, the front dented, and there was what appeared to be blood all over the hood. We immediately ran to the drivers door to see if John (not his actual name) was allright. However John was just sitting there staring out the windshield with a blank expression on his face. After several minutes of consistent badgering, we finally got him to talk.
He, Lisa, Terri, And Jill (their names are changed also) arrived at the bridge. They began to honk their horn and call for the donkey lady. (according to legend this is how you are supposed to get her attention) After about fifteen minutes of not seeing anything, they decided to go into the woods and look for her themselves. What happened next was truly unbelievable, and if I hadn't know John all my life and seen the car I would not have believed it myself.
While walking in the woods, John said he got the feeling they were being watched. He immediately stopped and told everyone to be quiet. Looking around and evaluating the situation, he discovered in the distance what appeared to be two eyes staring at them off in the distance. These eyes seemed to be reflecting from the moonlight and were of a color that was said to be indescribable. Immediately the girls panicked and began to run back to the car. John was quick to follow, and soon after he turned away there was a horrible scream from the direction of the eyes. He described it as almost being a cry from an intelligent animal. To afraid to turn around, he picked up his pace as he ran to the car. When he got there the girls were already inside screaming at him to get in and leave. As he was trying to find his keys, he was there was the sounds of what seemed to be a horse running in their direction. Starting the car, he slammed it into gear and put it to the floor. Suddenly, a figure appeared in the road in front of them. To afraid to stop, John collided with the figure. It hit the hood of the car and rolled over the roof. Looking in his rear view mirror, he said he thought the figure got up and continued to pursue them.
After hearing this and seeing the condition of the car, Steve and I, immediately felt this deserved a second look. John told us that he would never return to that bridge again, but if we wanted to risk our lives to go right ahead. Grabbing two flashlights and a pair of shotguns, (that was the biggest weapon Steve's father had) we jumped in my pickup and made way for the bridge. As we drew closer, we slowed down, and turned on the many off road lights my truck had. These lit the road and the woods to the side of us as if it were day time, giving us an outstanding view of the bridge as we approached. The first thing we noticed as the bridge drew close were the numerous amounts of blood on the road. However, these were the only signs of evidence we could find. Upon investigation of the woods by foot, (and shot guns) we discovered what seemed to be several tracks of a small horse (unshod) leading to the road. After several hours of looking and not finding anything else, we returned to the house. By this time John had already found his way home, and we laid in bed, to excited to sleep.
To this day, none of the four individuals involved in this story have returned to the bridge. Did John actually see and strike the Donkey Lady that night, or was it merely a stray pony startled by their presence? All I know is that something was there that night and it did scare our friends half to death.

The Donkey Lady bridge is the bridge that crosses Elm creek via Applewhite Rd., approximately four miles North of Loop 1604 on the South side of town."

Then the other one is that you drive to this bridge on the southside of San Antonio.
Honk your horn a few times, don't even have too I guess, and turn off your car lights.
Then you'll hear the donkey lady comming closer and closer, a hee~haww.
So you turn on the lights REALLY fast to catch a glimpse of her AND DRIVE AWAY before she jumps on the hood of your car & tries to smash through your windsheild.

That's just creepy. I don't think I'll ever go to San Antonio. But if I have to, I might drive over the bridge on purpose. I'm interested in the scenary around where she lives. But I am not, I repeat NOT going there at night!

Becoming disfigured would not instantly drive you insane.

What the heck?! I've never heard of this before and I doubt there could be such a person.

How did she get the name Donkey Lady? Did she suffer from some sort of uncontrollable braying after she was burned?

To me it just sounds like an Urban Legend, no factual basis for it. I'd put it up there with Bloody Mary and all the other junk.

This story seems to be a variant of the "La Llorona" ("Weeping Woman") legends so well-known in Texas and other Hispanic areas of the South-Western United States. La Llorona murdered her own children, in most versions by drowning them, and has been sentenced to spend the rest of eternity searching for their bodies.

But the connecting link seems to be that in many versions La Llorona's once-beautiful face was transformed into that of a horse or donkey.

That was my thought when I saw the topic, and the ones in Mexico's border towns are definitely real and do what they are known for doing. As for this tale, I'd say pure legend except that maybe at one time there was a well known lady disfigured in a fire. Maybe a tale born of fear of her by those who didn't know her.
goblin_lord
weird but you never know what it could have none of us were there i think but like about the braying her mouth could have been burnt together and couldnt speak only bray i guess

The words "Donkey Lady" conjure up innaproppiate images. . .

As I recollect from growing up in San Diego, the donkey lady was the hooker in Tijuana that had relations with a donkey if enough people paid to watch.

Anyhoo, I live in San Antonio now and I will put my ear to the ground and see what I come up with. Might be fun.

Somebody should make a cryptid card game. Something kind of like Magic; The Gathering. Might be cool...

Anyways, I told this story to a couple of my friends. It creeped them out too. I really doubt it's real though.

I found a different version of the story. The first was creepier though, I think I'll tell that to my siblings as a bedtime story. devil.gif

The Donkey Lady Bridge is located on the South side of San Antonio. It is a very small, odd looking bridge that very out of place. The bridge is one way, so on coming traffic must stop and let others go by before preceding. At night the bridge is highly dangerous, due to the woods, darkness, and creek bed below.

It is said that the Donkey Lady roams this bridge on all fours, with the sounds of her bones going click, clack, click, clack, on the pavement of the street and bridge.

Here is another version of the story and an experiance
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This story was originally told to me when I was in 6th grade. Its an old legend here in my hometown of San Antonio, TX.
Here it goes:
Story goes that this lady lived in the almost outskirts of San Antonio. She had a donkey who she loved almost like a family member. This was around the 40's or 50's. Like many people who keep to themselves, many people didn't like her very much. But she didn't care, everyday she would always walk her usual path, down Applewhite Road, past the bridge, and down to the old grass field past the bridge. She would let her donkey just graze up and down for hours and hours. Then she would take the same way back to her house.

One day, a small child, about 4 or 5 years old, told his dad that the donkey that belonged to the old ''lady'', had bitten him. So, the father and a couple of other men waited for her in the woods next to the bridge. Their plan was to take the donkey and make sure it didn't have rabies or anything that was harmful to the child.

As she passed, the men leaped out of the woods and tried to take the rope that the lady had in her hand that was tied to the donkey. As she struggled with them, the donkey lost his footing and slipped into the stream that flowed under the bridge. The men had to hold her back as she tried to jump in the stream after her donkey. But all she could do is watch her beloved donkey get carried away by the stream. After letting her go, the men just laughed in her face, mocking the sounds of the donkey as it cried for help. They were walking away, when the lady started throwing rocks at them. She hit one man and knocked him out, thats when the other men grabbed her and threw her into the stream. They say she must of drowned, because when she hit the water her body never floated to the top.

Legend has it that when you park your car next to the bridge at night with your lights off, her spirit gets angry because she thinks you are there waiting like the men were to get her donkey.

They say the first thing you hear is hoofs clanking on the floor, then if you don't leave after the hoofs stop clanking, rocks get thrown at your car from all directions.

The only experience I had with this was really frightening.

I was there with my friend in his car. We where just passing by when he suggested that we park next to ''donkey lady bridge''. We were parked for almost 15 or 20 minutes when I looked at my friend and saw a pale color in his face. He whispered to me, ''Look at the side view mirror on your side.'' As I looked at it, someone or something was tilting the mirror up, down, and side to side. We were both stiff and couldn't move. Finally the mirror stopped moving after about 30 seconds, what happened next was the thing that scared us half to death.

After the mirror stopped moving, we felt like something landed on the trunk of my friends car. Something so heavy, that the whole car bobbed up and down for a couple of seconds. "Thats it!", I told my friend, "lets get the hell out of here!". So he started up the car and we sped out of there.

Once we got to town, we stopped at a gas station and checked the trunk of his car. What I saw on his trunk still haunts me to this day. We saw two dents in the trunk, like if the ''donkey'' had raised up on his hind legs and let his two fronts legs crash down on the trunk.

The experience I swear is the truth. For proof, my friend still has the trunk with the two ''hoof'' prints. He replaced his trunk about two weeks after the incident. But he kept the dented trunk in his garage.

Never again will I mess with that again. Once is enough for me.

I was born and raised in San Antonio. I grew up here and therefore know much about most of the urban legends here. First of all for those that don't know, the Donkey Lady and La Llorona are completely two different entities. They are two different stories that do not coincide with each other in any way.

First off, La Llorona is a woman who drowned her kids because she met a man whom she wanted to marry, but he said that he wouldn’t accept her kids and that she had to get rid of them if she wanted to get married. Of course, the first thing she could think of was to drown them. After that she immediately regretted it and wished she never did that. After she died, God told her that she couldn’t go into Heaven until she found all of her kids and bring them with her. So she went to every body of water crying because she missed her kids so much and wanted to be with them in Heaven. As far as I know, I think God already has her kids in Heaven and wanted to punish her for what she did to her own kids. If her kids are already in Heaven, then of course she will be here on Earth for eternity not knowing her kids aren’t here. By the way, a couple of years ago when I was stationed in California my dad said that one night when he was going to sleep he heard a loud scream coming from a woman. He instantly jumped out of bed and ran outside thinking that some woman was being attacked. He said that it sounded like if someone was trying to kill her. My mom and brother heard it too and they ran to find out where it was coming from. They all heard it from different directions. The neighbors next door heard it too and they ran inside. My dad was very puzzled as to why they ran inside. They ran all the way around the block. They never found anyone screaming and nothing came on the news the next day about an attack. My dad asked the neighbors why they ran inside. They told him that it was because it was La Llorona and that they were scared. I mad was a little freaked out because he never thought about it being her.

Secondly, the Donkey Lady legend, as I heard, is that there was a Chinese lady that kept to herself and all the neighbors were afraid because of that. One day they wanted to scare her off. So they burned her house one day not knowing that she was inside. She came out burning and screaming. They say that the fire had caused her face to warp and hang down almost like a donkey or a horse. I believe that she died soon after that and that her spirit still wonders near that bridge. I would believe this because not too far north, about 15 minutes north on S. Zarzamora Rd, outside of S. Loop 410, is the Chinese graveyard. It is located right where the street curves and is supposed to be fenced off. Anyways, back to the Donkey Lady. I decided to go to that bridge ever since I found out where it is located at. I finally got my chance this past Sunday evening around 6 PM. I drove all the way past the graveyard to see if I could spot it. I couldn’t find it because of the cars behind me. When I finally found the bridge right after the Toyota plant, I saw that the north end of the old bridge has been completely destroyed because there was no signs of an entrance anywhere. So I tried the south end and noticed that there was a small white car coming out naturally. I thought, “Okay, they must have been leaving the bridge and nothing happened because they weren’t speeding out of there.” So I turned onto the path to find that all the trees were so closely aligned to the edge of the road and next to each other almost like a fence. I didn’t feel weird yet. I had the windows rolled all the way down because of the gunk on my side window made it hard to see clearly. I am not the kind of person to get scared very easily because of some supernatural encounters I have been through when I was younger. While growing up in a near constant experience maybe once every few weeks or few months made it kind of hard to be scared of anything ghostly or supernatural. It’s like getting used to swimming in deep water when you know that you were afraid when you were little. You get adjusted and it doesn’t become that shocking or scary because you are used to it already. While going in I didn’t feel anything. I thought, “There is nothing here.” Right before the first curve of the path to the bridge, about 100 feet or so, I started feeling a nervous feeling and a slight pressure on my heart. As if getting the nerve to do something you never did like asking someone you like out to dinner or swimming in deep water when you are scared of it. That feeling you get right when you are about to break that threshold, I felt that and then all of a sudden my foot slammed on the brakes without me knowing. I was feeling fear for the first time in many years. It wasn’t an “I’m afraid because what if there is something.” It was more of an “I know something is there waiting for me.” I can feel it strongly without a doubt, the feeling of something telling you to get the hell out of here right now. I know that it was my instincts telling me to leave because something terrifying is there. I know that that is the thing everyone always encounters when they try to see her. If it is her, then she is one very powerful, hating evil spirit. I’ve only felt that kind of fear about three times in my life. The first two I couldn’t even move a bit. The second of the two I had a very large hand print that went all the way around my neck. The fingers were average human width, but fingers being over a foot long each. I know that no one in the world has fingers that long. The longest on record is 12 ¾ inches, that’s including the palm but is a size 25 finger. Anyways, I have realized that while growing up, I have noticed that I have unusually high spirit awareness. I think that is why most people don’t get scared when they reach the bridge because most people don’t have spirit awareness at all and can’t sense spirits, either good or evil. I notice you either feel chills, goose bumps, and hair raising feelings when you have spiritual awareness, even a little bit, and are usually the lower levels of spirit strength. When you feel the nervous anxious feeling with a bit of tightness in your heart, then it is probably the ones stronger than the ones that give you chills and goose bumps. I figured because of this I can sense her before I got near the bridge and I think she doesn’t like that. I wonder if she was next to my window without me knowing, I probably sensed that. Maybe I felt that fear because she knows I am not easily scared and stronger than most that go. My spirit awareness is usually at a level where I can kind of feel it, but that is probably because everything to this point, except a few times, has been very weak in strength. It might have been her hatred that I was feeling. She felt more like a demon rather than a human soul or spirit full of hatred. I can almost say that she is an earthborn demon. She has that aura and I am never wrong about that kind of stuff. As for most people never going back, I’m not that kind of person. I want to go back soon to challenge her again, but without any fear. I want to get stronger spiritually, now that I know there is something out there that strong on our side of the living world. Most call me crazy and don’t believe me, but I really do believe in this kind of stuff. I hope I didn't bore anyone. I do love to talk about things of this nature. Here is my own personal saying to those who are in doubt or don't believe, “Just because you don't believe in it, doesn't mean it's not real.”

Yeah i have heard of the donkey lady too.Never been to the bridge though.
Also, while on Google I did find mention of a donkey lady. In fact the article mentioned there was a real life woman who had some donkies, and that it was on the northeast side of town.In fact, the San Antonio Express News had an article about th eDonkey lady,I think back in October of last year for Halloween.
Will see if at their website they have anything on it.I believe she had a place somewhere around the Topperwein Road area.
