LOS ANGELES — A woman mistakenly put her 1-month-old grandson through an X-ray machine at Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said.

A startled security worker noticed the shape of a child on the carry-on baggage screening monitor and immediately pulled him out, the Los Angeles Times reported for a story in Wednesday's editions.

The infant was taken to a local hospital, where doctors determined he did not receive a dangerous dose of radiation.

"This was an innocent mistake by an obviously inexperienced traveler," said Paul Haney, deputy executive director of airports and security for the city's airport agency.

The incident happened early Saturday, airport officials said.

Haney said in 1988, an infant in a car seat went through an X-ray machine at the Los Angeles airport.

Haha. Sometimes my dad forgets and places my little brother on the belt at the food store. I can see it happening.

Damn right, I don't want any one cutting corners at airport security now.

Heard this on the radio this morning .. Well mistakes do happen and its understandable, being in an airport going through security .. every thing you're carrying just gets put on the the belt for the xray machine. Luckily the kid wasn't seriously injured.

I heard this on the radio, too. The woman didn't speak English, which I'm guessing was the cause for the confusion. I'm glad the baby wasn't hurt, but I wonder if it'll have any super powers now.

That poor child. It really does sound she was very inexprienced traveler. If she put her grandson in a beg by accident.

What an amusing story. It was probably just a stupid mistake though. Luckily, no harm was done to the baby.

For further screening the child should be checked for sugars/sweets. Blood tested for glucose levels, and then sedated accordingly. Children in flight = miserable.
