I think sometimes schools go a little too far.... teenagers have alsways had some type of game involving sexual innuendos.... I think the bracelets are harmless... just my opinion!
MANSFIELD, Ohio -- Jelly bracelets are the hottest new trend for teenagers. They are wearing them everywhere.
But according to NewsChannel5's Jonathan Costen, some say the bracelets have a sexual meaning behind them. Jelly Bracelets The bright colored bracelets are popular for teens, but they're creating controversy across the country.
The colors symbolize certain things and some play games with them by snatching them off a friend's wrist, Costen said.
"Say you ask the girl to break it off of you. If the girl breaks it off of you it's like they're going together," student Janoll Minard said.
You won't see the jelly bracelets at Malabar Middle School in Mansfield. The principal banned them.
SURVEY Do you or someone you know wear jelly bracelets? Yes, I do. Yes, I know someone. No

Disclaimer "They're just jelly bracelets. Kids will be kids. If they're breaking them off to say, 'I like you,' if you break the bracelet off -- man come on," said grandparent Stan Hawthorne.
In some circles, wearing the bracelets have a different meaning, Costen reported. In fact, some kids call them sex bracelets.
"Sex bracelets. Say if a boy gives you a bracelet and the girl breaks it, he has relations with her in 24 hours," student Starla Oakes said.
Although Malabar students say they only use the bracelets for innocent fun, principal Joann Hipsher doesn't want to take any chances.
"I'm trying to promote good character here at school so I simply am asking the students not to wear the jelly bracelets and not wear them to school anymore," said Joann Hipsher, principal.
She said she has only confiscated two bracelets from two boys at her school. Hipsher also said many parents have told her they support the ban.

New trend??? The jelly braclets with sexual meanings behind them have been around my area since I was about 8 and I am 17 now.
They are a bit late behind! Infact I have a red one, but I don't ware it, I just found it!

*rolls eyes* You have got to be kidding me. You're right, Benjo, I wore those bracelets in 5th grade, & I'm 25 now. No new trend. And anything can have any connotation you want. In fact, I've decided that drinking a beverage with a straw means you're a virgin.

I've also heard that being able to peel the label off of a beer bottle without leaving any backing means you're a virgin. that means I'm going back and forth, depending on how much I've had to drink.

I know a lot of people who ware jelly bracelets and they don't mean any sexual meaning. And if anyone who was to ban them at schools that person has a problem.
"Its not hurting anyone"
That what I tell teachers all the time when I get in trouble for something dumb.

I don't get in trouble all time I just say "it's not hurting anyone" and the teacher knows its true.

Actually, for some there are sexual meanings behind them. Atleast for around here. And they have been around for forever.
But seriously, it's not like someone is going to kiss/have an intercourse/etc with someone who broke a bracelet....The people around here just wear them for fun and to tick the grown-ups off.
Cya!

In my area in was F-me tabs. These were the pull tabs off a soda can that you wore on a necklace. If you has a tab that was broken. ( little ring attached to the can broke or missing) it was good for a kiss. One with the ring intact was good for ummm oral fun and one with the mini rivet in it was good for full on sex.
(just look at a soda can to see what I mean)
No one really took it seriously. ( or with me they didn't anyway

) and the teachers etc just lets us go about our business.

We've got 'shag bangles' here...they're the same thing, you're just apparantly supposed to break them after sex, rather than before it
Confiscating them is stupid though...it sounds more like a childish game to me, and I doubt anyone's actually having sex over braking a peice of rubber (let's hope, for their sake, a peice of rubber doesn't break DURING it too

).

Lol I wear black and dark blue braclets like that, but for me it's a metalhead/goth look. Never heard of any sexual things with them though. I have some really cool barbed wire jelly ones too. And then the actual "bondage wear", leather braclets with spikes, and d-rings, etc. Of course they're not really used for sexual purposes, unless you actually do the bondage stuff. Can't even wear my spiked braclet places cuz security guards consider it a weapon, like you can really pull that off your wrist before someone hits you.

WHAT? That is some crap - I am so glad that I knew all about this when I was all of 7 years old adding to my collection every time we went out. I remember at my school the bunny ears behind the head when you take pictures was supposed to mean "meet you in bed in 5 minutes" we had no clue - most of us anyway. This is stupid I can't believe that the principal went this far over nothing! I mean it's not like oh I am wearing a green one today that means I am horny or I am wearing a purple one and it means I am gay....shame on him for spoiling innocent fun!

Its getting very confusing to be a kiddie these days.
I remember when I was at primary school, you showed a girl how much you loved her, by running up and pulling her hair. If she liked you she would return the favour by kicking you in the shins… oh those were the simply days…

At Poteet high school they got rid of jelly bracelets because they said when a girl has them on a boy can come up and cut one bracelet of the girl and that means the girl gets with the boy and does a act with him, very vulgar.
Each color means something,I really can't explain.

hi, i am a highschool student and i guess you could consider me a punk/gothic type of person. I do not appretiate how teachers and administrators are labeling the student body for these problems. How can they be so sure that the students made this upit could have been some rock star ya know?, well the jelly bracelets i wear and you may wear do not have a sexual meaning behind them and they do not bring any harm to a person....thats my opinion talk to you people later...
