Here's a puzzle from Coudal Partners, titled "Whose Fish?" supposedly created by Albert Einstein:

There are five houses in a row in different colors. In each house lives a person with a different nationality. The five owners drink a different drink, smoke a different brand of cigar and keep a different pet, one of which is a Walleye Pike.

The question is -who owns the fish?

Hints:
1. The Brit lives in the red house.
2. The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
3. The Dane drinks tea.
4. The green house is on the left of the white house.
5. The green house owner drinks coffee.
6. The person who smokes Pall Malls keeps birds.
7. The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhills.
8. The man living in the house right in the center drinks milk.
9. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
10. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the one who smokes Dunhills.
12. The owner who smokes Bluemasters drinks beer.
13. The German smokes Princes.
14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
15. The man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.

There are no tricks, pure logic will get you the correct answer. And yes, there is enough information to arrive at the one and only correct answer.

Well, I figured it out in about 10 mins and it's really not that tough. Please post the entire chart(not just the answer) after you figure it out. Something like this:

This is dubiously easy when you use a chart, I think the challenge is to do this in your head.

I don't know, most logic puzzles I've ever done have used a chart. It would be quite difficult to keep sorted in your head though, yes.

Guess you can't directly paste charts into posts. tongue.gif

I always liked this puzzle. There's no use posting my answer, it's the exact same as Waspie's and AC's.

Indeed, you can be smart enough to do it in your head, but still too dumb to make a chart.

Damn it.. I'm sure the fish was hidden in up the dane's butt.
Where did I go wrong? I was using a Hawkin's 12 point lateral logic system as well! disgust.gif

Well done guys! You all have the right answer! I guess the other 98% of UM members kept out of this thread laugh.gif
No one posts puzzles on UM anymore so I thought I'll post one. Thanks for your responses.

I wanted to see charts because I didn't want people to guess the answer. When you see charts, you can be sure people worked out the answer. Anyways, it's not that dubiously easy to figure out any puzzle through charts; if you've done enough puzzles, you will know that.
Death Star III
yay!!! i did it without cheating (okay maybe i looked at a part of the answer)
