As we've seen, there've been a few cases of people apparently making up stories, and believing them wholeheartedly. That in itsself showes why you can not believe people's claimes if they can not back it up with evidence. Why do you think people make up stories, and then knowingly set themselves up for disproval?

My thought is "15 minutes of fame"

maybe they don't think it through, and don't see the trap they set for themselves... or maybe they think they can laugh it off as a joke...

I don't buy the "fame" thing , because really , is posting on a open forum fame?...I think it is because they have a old crappy computer ( nothing else they can do with it except read and type ) , and a dial up connection original.gif

Just wondering , what topics are you refering to?

Attention, boredome, it could be a number of things. As for the people who actually believe them, maybe some people are just too believing. hmm.gif

Some of the stuff sent in to our site is so far out, you have to see the entertainment in the story being told... for what it is... fiction. Whether they believe/admit it or not.

There are however some very non-fiction UFO factual stories out there too.

I would say attention. If for killing time, in my opinion you'd have to be really insanely bored to concoct stories and post them on a board like this...or maybe they are hoping that they can get some followers all by themselves. Sad, but true...

I agree with wanting attention. To bad they don't realize the hardships of those who stories are true. If they did, they probably wouldn't ever entertain the idea of doing it again.

I think some people seek meaning to their lives but making up stories is not a good way to do so.

Perhaps because they've nothing better to do than to mislead somebody?

I think some stories are only a bit unexplained then they added up some spice on it so you will believed them or to make their claim more convincing. (first post) Hi to all !

Hi Stellar:

I think people make up stories because they crave attention. Many people were neglected as children and so as adults they view attention as acceptance and love. They crave attention as much as others crave love. So they make up these stories in a desperate attempt to gain that attention. Some of them know that people will eventually find out the truth but if they can experience the attention while it lasts, it's worth it.

I heard of a lady who called in to a local talk show and described to the hosts how her husband was overseas in Iraq and was killed. She said she was pregnant and talked about the sad reality that her baby would grow up never knowing her/his father. To make a long story short, later on both talk hosts agreed to meet this lady at a restaurant and while talking to her they found out that her story didn't make sense. She would change the story and her story would change.

Eventually, she admitted she made the whole story up(she wasn't even pregnant and she didn't have a husband in Iraw) she said because she felt like such a loser and had nothing in her life, not even love. So it's easy to see how someone would come up with a story such as this. People like this really need therapy.

yeah, but what if the story is just so incredible it can't be believed? for example... Joe Blow writes in a thread "I know for a fact, a billion ships from the Orion Confederation are going to arrive in orbit around Earth on some specific day." Joe Blow defends his story and even does a count down, the day arrives but not the fleet. is Joe Blow a liar or delusional? why would he make up such an outlandish story?

BTW, nice meeting you, and have fun posting grin2.gif
Please Explain
Some stories might be incredible but if we are talking about Aliens there's a very big chance it's not gonna come true.
Aliens are a big liars. We should not trust them whether they are bad or good.
Borat
It is nature of mankind imagination to write stories, sometimes is to see how far is believed. like orson welles war of worlds .
Yuna
Maybe they do it to take their attention away to reality, to give them something else to think about so that they don't actually have to face other things.
