As we've seen, there've been a few cases of people apparently making up stories, and believing them wholeheartedly. That in itsself showes why you can not believe people's claimes if they can not back it up with evidence. Why do you think people make up stories, and then knowingly set themselves up for disproval?
Hi Stellar:
I think people make up stories because they crave attention. Many people were neglected as children and so as adults they view attention as acceptance and love. They crave attention as much as others crave love. So they make up these stories in a desperate attempt to gain that attention. Some of them know that people will eventually find out the truth but if they can experience the attention while it lasts, it's worth it.
I heard of a lady who called in to a local talk show and described to the hosts how her husband was overseas in Iraq and was killed. She said she was pregnant and talked about the sad reality that her baby would grow up never knowing her/his father. To make a long story short, later on both talk hosts agreed to meet this lady at a restaurant and while talking to her they found out that her story didn't make sense. She would change the story and her story would change.
Eventually, she admitted she made the whole story up(she wasn't even pregnant and she didn't have a husband in Iraw) she said because she felt like such a loser and had nothing in her life, not even love. So it's easy to see how someone would come up with a story such as this. People like this really need therapy.
