Maybe they're both true and reflect his changing beliefs?

Dates for the quotes could clear it up, I'll have a look but I can't promise I'll come up with anything thumbsup.gif

Edit: the only stuff I've found comes dated within his lifetime bracket (1879 - 1955)

Neither, they're both opinions and who knows what the truth is?

That is all ojne quote not two.
Bella-Angelique
the letter is in the Einstein Archives, and on it, in Einstein's hand writing, is the following sentence, written in English:

I do not believe in immortality of the individual, and I consider ethics to be an exclusively human concern with no superhuman authority behind it.

source

Obviously he was wrong about only humans having ethics and from mounting evidence and statistics he was probably wrong about a form or type of individual immortality existing. He was just a scientist, not a god, but the attitude shown towards him and his words as being the most worthwhile and closest to perfection on any subject shows how the orginal teachings of many religions were replaced with opinions of celebrity thinkers, often kings and high priests.

Celebrity worship is a very primitive human failing.
Now excuse me while I go back to adoring the Depp picture that Ethyl posted.

I can understand why people hang onto what Einstein says due to his success in the field of science. It's very easy to assume that someone who knows so much on one subject knows equally the same amount on every other subject they speak about.

I'm not sure where Einstein ended up with all this stuff, but AFAIK many theoretical physicists end up questioning the predominant materialist world view of classical science. Many even start having some mystical views. I suspect there is a slow paradigm shift going on.

I am about to start reading Dawkins' "the God Delusion" to keep myself in touch with how out of touch biologists are with the spiritual side of things.
