Indian police say they have found bags containing the clothes and skeletons of a number of small children near Delhi.

They were discovered in Noida, some 20 km (12 miles) from the capital. A search is on for more remains.

Noida's police chief, RKS Rathore, told the BBC there were at least four skeletons, possibly many more.

The discovery came after a man confessed to killing six children in Noida's Nithari district after sexually abusing them.

Parents angered

Superintendent Rathor said six children below the age of 12 had gone missing from the Nithari area in the last year.

Local people say far more children are missing.

Police said they initially arrested the man in connection with the murder of a young girl. They say further questioning of the man led to the discovery of the skeletons.

The skeletons were found in the house of a businessman where the suspect worked as a servant.

A bulldozer was deployed to dig up earth around the property.

The news has shocked and angered parents of the missing children.

Police were sent to control crowds who tried to storm the house.

"My son went missing eight months ago. Police have not told me anything," one parent told the BBC. "But I am fearing the worst."

Many others told the BBC that they had reported missing children in recent months but that the police had done nothing about it.

Just awful. Though, you've got to wonder what made him take the step up to murder. Afraid he'd get caught if they got away?

Well most of the time basterds that obduct children kill them...Police say the chance for life is way down after 24 hours. I am a mother and this is my worst fear. Parents keep your children close and trust few. Dont let your children out of your sight while outside , I know some people would think thats going a bit far seeing as most of us had our freedom of playing and exploring out of parental view, and nothing happend to us, and some will argue that it is imposing on the childs personal experinces and personal growth. These fuc*%#@ are every ware and I will not stand by and just hope luck is on our side or every thing turns out alright. I will do every thing in my power to make sure my kids are safe.

Update: Indian police discover 15 skulls

Indian police say two men from the outskirts of New Delhi may have killed as many as 15 children and women.

On Saturday, police found 15 skulls near a house in the town of Noida after digging up the back garden and drains.

These discoveries followed earlier finds of large plastic bags filled with clothes, bangles and human remains.

The discovery has provoked the fury of many residents of a nearby slum, who said complaints about their missing children had been ignored by police.

Police said they began digging around the house on Friday after a domestic servant who worked there admitted that he had raped and killed several children.

The businessman who employed him has also been arrested, police say.

Both men appeared before a local court on Saturday, charged with rape, kidnapping and murder.

The children were reported to have been lured to the house with promises of sweets while the women were offered jobs.

Parents angered

Noida's police chief, RKS Rathore, said that so far 10 of the 15 victims had been identified by relatives.

"The bodies recovered are those who are in our list," Mr Rathore said.

"They have been identified by their parents. They have identified the clothes."

Angered relatives, many of whom live in shanty housing bordering Noida, gathered at the house and some, anxious to find out if their child was among the dead, struggled with police officers.

"We told police that we suspected this man, but they repeatedly ignored out complaints," Kuldeep Kumar, whose four-year-old nephew has been missing since February, told the Associated Press news agency.

"We are poor people. We can't go to the police station every day."

Neighbours are reported to have contacted the police after smelling a foul stench coming from the drain outside the house.

The search for more remains continues. Local people say that almost 40 children have disappeared during recent months.

NEW DELHI: Tension prevailed on Monday near the Noida house of Mohinder Singh Pandher, accused of killing several children. Local residents fought pitched battles with the police, four days after the recovery of skeletal remains of children from a gutter outside the house. A crowd attacked the house of a doctor, Mohinder Singh's neighbour, alleging his involvement in the macabre killings. The doctor was allegedly involved in a kidney racked busted by the police two years ago. The crowd hurled stones and bricks at the doctor's residence, breaking the doors and windowpanes. Police resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.

"It is not a case of sexual abuse and murder. There is more to it than meets the eye. We suspect that an organised illegal human organs racket was being run by the accused along with the doctor," said Hari Shankar, a resident. "The doctor's house should be searched. A few local residents should be allowed to accompany the search team. We suspect [that] both houses are connected by a tunnel."

Senior Superintendent of Police (Noida) R.K.S. Rathore said vested interests were trying to politicise the situation. "The post-mortem reports have not established the illegal human organs trade angle. Still we carried out a search of the doctor's house and the Noida Medicare Centre that he owns, but did not find anything suspicious,'' he said.

Mr. Rathore said the search for skeletons from the gutter near the house had been completed and 17 skulls were recovered during the four-day search. "We have sent the skeletal remains for forensic and DNA testing to laboratories in Agra and Hyderabad to establish the identity of deceased," he said.

Nine victims identified

Nine victims had been identified based on the confession of Surender, alias Satish, Mohinder Singh's servant. Three persons, including a 42-year-old domestic help of the accused, had been detained for questioning. ``The domestic help is being questioned to know more about the lifestyle of the accused. Two more people have been detained as part of the investigations," said Mr. Rathore. The former Rajya Sabha MP, D. P. Yadav, who visited the site on Monday afternoon, said the role of the local police had come under a cloud following the recovery of the skeletons and demanded that the Centre order an impartial inquiry. "The accused should be handed out the strictest possible punishment," he said.

Families arrive

Families of missing children have started arriving at the site from far-flung areas such as Indirapuram and the national Capital. ``We are keeping the photographs of the children to show them to the accused," said Mr. Rathore.

The local court on Monday extended the police custody of the two accused till January 10.

They were produced in the court on the expiry of their two-day police custody. The magistrate also granted permission for narco-analysis tests on them.
