Welcome to UM, and I have never heard of RMS Titanic being switched theory.

yes, the titanic switch theory is featured in a book called "Titanic, the ship that never sank". in very basic terms, titanic was the second of three "olympic" class ships. Olympic being the first. before titanic was completed, Olympic was involved in a collision with a navy ship (this much is fact). it was decided that the Olympic was to blame and therefore the company would have to pay to fix it themselves. apparently the damage to the internal structure of the ship was so bad that a plan to sink the ship and claim on the insurance was created.
but sinking the ship would be too obvious, so the damaged and patched up olympic and the brand new titanic were switched at the Liverpool ship yard. the new Olympic went on as normal and the damaged titanic/Olympic was taken out to sea on it's maiden voyage and sunk.
there was a ship sent out to rescue the passengers but because of a communications mistake it was in the wrong place.
this is only a basic outline and the book gives a great more detail.
it sounds unlikely but at the same time it's possible.
i was hoping there might be a topic about it on the forum some where.
