Seems like a good time to start a topic like this. My day was a bit less than peachy. Earlier I drove to the storage place for my brother and we moved furniture from his room to the storage shed. Afterward, I came home and cleaned my cat's fresh poop from the kitchen floor. Thirdly, my little jerk brother purposely coughed super hard and ended up throwing up. So *I* had to clean his vomit by hand. To add the icing to the cake, the same jerk brother of mine stepped in my mom's carpet downstairs where my cat had also freshly pooped and smeared it in over 5 spots on her carpet. I had to clean that myself as well. He had the worst attitude, and yaknow how that goes, adding insult to injury. I demanded for him to come downstairs so I could show him where he had smeared on the carpet and he slammed the door in my face laughing, so naturally I was tweaked already. I blew up at him and he went into one of his fits. So everyone pointed the finger at me like I was the bad guy. It just isn't a very good start to the new year. I know no one cares, but I felt like I had to vent. And maybe open an outlet for others to do the same, who haven't had a perfect day, either. So feel free to join me guys.

How do YOU cool down when you've had a day like this? Me? I'm jamming to some classic rock songs on YouTube. It really has helped calm me down, but I'm certainly not talking to the little snot for a while. I've bit my tongue long enough...

EDIT- After reading y'all's numerous replies -which surprised me, I really wasn't expecting such a large response.- I decided to turn that burning question into a poll to see which one works the best ;] I took the top options you guys posted about what you would do yourself when you're tweaked. Happy voting! Please participate!

Anyone out there ever had a day like this before? *sigh* apparently i'm not very patient tonight, either.
tcgram
I usually have to go for a walk or a drive and listen to music. There have been times where I've been gone for quite some time before I can calm down enough to speak rationally to someone. I can't say I blame you for getting upset; sounds like you had a really bad day. sad.gif

Classical Music or Angry Music helps me out.
exeller

Musik, walks, my cat, Postal 2 modifikation AW7 (game), time. All these help me out when I am mad, but mostly it just goes over with time

I don't get mad, I am a nice guy that is always cool.
Adam2006

I start with deep breaths, if that doesn't work then its classical/ angry music as someone said, then a game when you can just blow the hell out of stuff aimlessly (fun aswell). Occasionally running down the street screaming can help. original.gif
Ha Ha
I usually let loose with a very long, carefully enunciated string of swear words, that lasts about two minutes and is strung together so well that it all comes out in one breath! People usually laugh when I do it, though..... grin2.gif

I go on the computer and vent my fustration there. And if i can not get to my comp i go sulk somewhere by myself so i have no one to lash out on.

I personally choose rap/hip-hop as my favorite. Which ever you like sit down relax listen to music do something that you like whatever you quiet hobby is drawing, seaching the web anything. That helps me .......

when all else fails I use to call up my girl untill we broke up now that was a great help!

But yes I hate days like that!! crying.gif

I pray, do deep breathing, meditate, and then when I'm feeling better, I take a walk.

Until a while ago, I was in quite a stressful position, that sort of made it easier for me to get stressed in ordinary situations.
In short, I became a right arse, shouting and snarling at the silliest things.
I tried a lot of stuff which helped a bit but the most important advice I'd give anyone is to remove yourself from the stressful situation and take a sit down.
I was also introduced to a herbal remedy (which I thought would be a load of crap) called 'Bach Rescue Remedy', it really helped to make a difference.

Talking to someone really helps me. To talk about people or things that made me mad, to shout about them for some time, and it passes...
Melly
When I get mad, I take a few breaths, clench my fists, grab a cigarette and go out for a long walk. If I am unable to leave the house for some reason, I usually talk to a friend so I could vent. But I don't usually stay angry for very long. If someone can make me laugh, by that time, I've already forgotten what I was mad about in the first place. original.gif

I have a terrible temper and I scream my head off when I lose it. I used to throw things and smash them but that got old cause I got tired of cleaning things up. I am working on not screaming. Its not fair to other people to unleash that on them.

Dont get mad.....get GLAD!
girty1600
I like to break things.

I can mostly stay calm I think because I worked in a Mental Illness House (mainly with Deminta patients) and seeing people with very serious problems gives me that constant reminder I don't have it bad. But I am human and some people or days or topics successfully get to me. There are three main ways I deal with it. One I have to stand my ground and get it out without being distasteful like, cursing etc. But even if I do set the other person straight (most of the time we will just argue) I will still be mad because it takes a very disrespectful person or alot to get to mad. So, if I am push to that it takes me even longer to cool down sometimes. the two other things that really help me is writing my thoughts or a story, poems not necessary about what happen just writing. And because I do Martial Arts, Xingyiquan, helps alot, causing me to focus and it is very physical.

Smoke a cigarette and warm tea yes.gif

It depends what the problem is in how quickly or slowly I get angry/wound up. When I do get angry it has to come out somehow. I find ranting, yelling, swearing and talking helps. I don't stay angry for very long and I'm the kind of person who doesn't like things to be left unfinnished with bad feelings or conflict. Depends what it is really...

I usually vent in my blog.

If I talk to myself that usually makes me feel better.

And listening to Alice works wonders.
distortedpandy
I beat the hell out of my drums, write, break/throw things, complain and scream to a certain male, count to 10 and smoke a bunch of cigs.

When these things don't work, I end up in anger management. mellow.gif Speaking of which, I haven't been there in ages. laugh.gif
_Nyx_
I'm a thrower... books, dishes, pens, lighters...whatever's handy... and I'll smoke like there's no friggin tomorrow... when I'm really mad... I clean.. that's when you know the sh*t's going to hit the fan ph34r.gif
glynne64
Variety. Usually something physical though. A good loooong walk with a lot of swearing under my breath comes to mind! angry.gif The madder I am, the longer the walk.

I will also call someone. That helps. I have 2 brothers that are great listeners. Can't count how many times that have helped me "climb down from the bell tower & drop my automatic rifle". innocent.gif

i know this sounds crazy. but sometimes when i'm mad i'll wiggle my toes. but when i'm really angry or stressed out, music is my savior. mainly rock or classical.

If I'm totally furious I write and my husband knows not to come anywhere near me. laugh.gif

When I read it in the next couple of days and it's still as important as it was when I was all fired up, then I know it's time to talk about it. That way nothing is said that you'll regret later.

Sex or hammer'n out some gutsy Blues does it for me.

When I get angry, I usually punch a wall or throw something and break it, while screaming obscenitites as loud as I can. Haha, probably not the healthiest way to go about dealing with my anger, but hey, it works. That being said, I think I have anger issues because I find this happening quite a bit.

Well having a fiery temper, I have come up with ways of venting my anger .. I usually mumble to myself, choice curse words, where no one will hear me. Other times I just go some place quiet, alone and just chill out.

I don't get mad...but if i get frusterated I smoke a cig.

I roll up a fat lefty and that usually does the trick.

To recognize the inner voice of conscience, and allow it to speak to the physical conscience and respond to it by realizing " stop. take a breath, dont speak to soon remain calm, tell your self it is not going to happen you will not permise willingly to anger and sometimes to just walk away.

but most defitently,... "STOP the stop thought needs to be recognized .it is your higher conscienciousness that knows better, right from wrong, except it is more difficult to train your brain to litsen to that voice of reason than to learn from " a hot stove senario"

Abecrombie
hope that helps somebody, it takes time but it pays rewards bigtime . keep training your thoughts and voiceing thoughts keep to yourself unless right and wrong are a call to action ,

I'm like that too, I'm the type of person who doesn't get angry very often but when I do, its full blown anger all the way. And I always end up feeling silly or dumb afterwards when I've cooled down. =/

Swearing is inevitable, and quite a remedy I might add. HaHa But I try not to in front of anybody when I'm upset because I get really embarrassed for some reason. Which I find weird, because normally embarrassment doesn't stop me from swearing when I'm -not- mad.

Listening to music is VITAL anvil, I'm tellin' yah!

Hey Froggy! Me too- I'm starting to find out that a lot of other people do that as well too, when they're mad.

What's funny is I know people who won't want to go walking alone when they're mad because they're afraid of bumping into other people and they just won't want to talk to anybody or be bothered. So they end up going "for a drive" instead in their car. Apparently it works wonders. Anyone else do this?
dixiepixie
I suppose it depends on the situation, and to what degree I am at on the po'd scale.
Sometimes I get online , other times I clean (if my house is clean turn around and leave!) Otherwise I just make fool of myself and have a perfect wobbler!
demonic presence
i usually break/hit something/someone, that usually cools me down original.gif

I tend to keep it in, or hit my door when I get really agrivated... I'm glad I have posters to put on my door ~_~

I usually have to buy a new playstation pad.
Episteme
I just don't get angry. That way I don't have to figure out how to get un-mad. yes.gif

When something is bothering me, I just do my best to fix it. When I have a problem with my boss or someone at work I just talk to them about it. Choosing words carefully is the hard part, I don't like to hurt people's feelings, but most things I encounter can be worked out with a simple conversation.
coldethyl
I voted talking to someone because after I've talked to my mom or sister or blogged on here I usually feel better.
