Tonight, I was standing in the kitchen chatting with the spouse, watching her make spaghetti (she looks so cute making spaghetti), when we heard a loud cracking sound. We looked around, but saw nothing. After dinner (spaghetti) we found a heavy glass in the sink cracked. Not broken, just a crack running all around it. Ithink it would have held water if I filled it, but I tossed it. There was nothing else in the sink at the time. I had used it about half an hour earlier to get a drink of water.
Weird.

I afraid you would need more than one thing or episode to jump all the way to a haunting.

Did you read my prior post? this wasn't the first thing, and I didn't say it was a haunting. I just found it interesting AFTER the post I referred to earlier.

OK I know of many newer homes being haunted but usually its either a person or objects that cause them. do you collect or have any antiques in the home and did you ever have anything like this before you moved there.

All the best

I don't see the concern just yet-- if there is a spook it will eventually show itself in some way, and leave no question about its existance.

No to any of the above. Read the other post for more info.

And I am far from a rabid "believer", nor am I mystic, astrological, attuned, or any of that stuff. I'm a logistics analyst....about as dry and analytical as you can get.

I was holding an empty glass in my hand once when it suddenly exploded, shattering into hundreds of pieces. The same thing happened to my brother a few years later.

Was there any water in the sink when the glass cracked? Placing a cold glass into hot water, or a hot glass into cold, can sometimes cause them to crack.
eqgumby
Nope. Nothing so mundane.
Lady_Anvilabeel
oh well based on the front door happenings and now the glass, things sound like they are getting more interesting - keep us posted on anything else!

Hallo eqgumby.

The combination of your prior post and this one does suggest that something is happening in your home, and of course the question is exactly what that might be.

If you believe the house to be haunted by a spirit, I would suggest (as I always usually do) that you speak aloud to it as if it was a regular person. Ask it questions - what it is playing at, what it wants, who it is etc. Spirit responds to attention in most cases. You may get a response and that might help you work out what is going on. If you don't really want to engage with it, then simply tell it to leave the house and leave you alone. Dress it up how you want, but that is what cleansings and clearings generally boil down to.

Other options are: using cameras to capture some evidence - when the door is open, take some shots - something might just show up. Or use trigger objects (an item left in one place and its position marked - then come back later and see if it has been moved).

Also pay attention to your animals - watch what they do when odd things happen - if they're sitting there looking patently bored with you, then chances are you're hyping something up out of proportion, but if they're reacting and looking unsettled, then you may have something more.

Regarding the possibilities of what is going on, well there could be many explanations. Hauntings do not necessarily have to happen only in places that have witnessed tragedy or death or ritual. Spirit is attracted to life, and will follow a person sometimes (for better or for worse). It's true that locations with much history do tend to have more activity than those that without, but it's not set in stone.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Glass can crack spontaneously because of manufacturing defects (either bad annealing or "cording"). It's most likely to happen when the item is under some other stress, like thermal shock. Personally, I've never seen it happen.

I have seen a glass break spontaneously in a purportedly haunted location. Happened on camera for Jason Hawes of Ghost Hunters amid a bunch of other weird activity.

What the hell, just get a medium in there.

I appreciate the responses. I'll post if anything else happens that I can't explain. So far there really isn't all that much going on, or at least nothing really negative. More interesting than anything else. The glass thing was very weird though. I mean it was a really loud audible crack sound that had that sound you get fron heavy crystal breaking in very hot water. At teh time my back was to the sink, just a foot or so away, and the wife was cooking at the stove. I actually said "What the heck was that?" and looked around for a broken window, and checked the glass stovetop for cracks. After seeing nothing I just shrugged it off, thinking maybe a window had settled, or one of the tiles around the stove had popped from the nearby heat. It was only later that my wife pulled the glass out of the sink and saw the crack that ran all the way around the glass. No splintering or anything, just that crack that looked liek it was inside the glass (just like someone else said, it looked like hot water tossed on a cold glass type of damage).

I'll keep an eye out, and thanks again all for responding.

Wish you'd kept the glass. With a magnifying glass, you might have found the origin of the crack and identified a cause. If you do dig it out of the trash, look for a spot with tiny concentric ripples radiating out from it.

Nada. No spot that seems to originate from a strike. The glass is perfectly smooth all around the crack. Nothing supernatural necessarily, maybe just a flaw in the glass. Just glad it didn't happen while I was drinking from it.

Well, now it's just getting stupid.
I came home from work and my garage door was open. No big deal. But I asked the boys why it was open, figuring they took out something and neglected to close it. Turns out they thought the garage door noise was the neighbors garage door. They said it was going up and down, up and down, and they assumed the neighbor was doing something with their own garage door. One of them even made a comment about the neighbors being too stupid to close a garage door...........
Later Will said he went to the garage because he heard a banging, like the door was moving again (he went in via the kitchen door) and when he got in it was closed, but the pull string that you use to close the door was swinging. He freaked out, but my younger one, being a wise ass has decided we have a hobo living in our garage.........
Even later Will insisted that the door to the garage was thumping, like someone pushing on it. I think it may have moved on to overactive imagination land. I heard nothing at all.

Don't know if this was touched upon already in the other thread, but it is possible the land the house is built on has a paranormal history.

Here on LI there's a good example. The area of the former Ried's Ice Cream factory. The old factory building and land has been sighted as being haunted due to the events that took place there. The factory itself went out of business years ago and the building demolished a few years later. The land itself was recently bought by a devloper and a row of house built on it. Infact, one of the more active patches of land (and the last to be built on) not has 2 homes on it.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if wierd things are happening in those houses!

Get a medium in there, eggumby!

And of course, take careful notes and post them here.

I have had my own personal experience with a haunting in a new house we used to live in. I think that shows the enormity of the haunting the whole USED to live there thing. It has confirmed for me that the land where a place is built can be haunted. I don't know what happened up there or why these ghost were there but one of them targeted and attacked my two year old daughter and just the feel of the place had a negative effect on me and my partner to the point where we nearly broke up. It was a horrible place and I am so glad we don't live there any more.

I don't know of any to be honest, and there appears to be no NEGATIVE stuff going on to be honest.
Maybe I'll start a thread on my specific geographical location, see if I get any nibbles.

This is a true story.

Could be?

That's interesting, it sort of reminds of a problem we used to have with our next door neighbours doorbell and our car imboliser/alarm button. Whenever we locked/opened the car it would make their doorbell ring lol

O hilarious. How many ghost did it take to ring on their door bell before anyone figured it all out????

too funny.
Lady_Anvilabeel
It a took a few months before they figured it out, we never knew it was happening till they told us about it, so have no idea what theories they went thru!! - made us feel bad though for those late night trips to the car because we'd forgotton something! haha laugh.gif

Come to think of it there was another weird thing that happened a few times as well, Their phone would ring and it would be our number that would come up, but we never phoned them...Bizare!
