This maths question is annoying, me I cannot do it.

A cone has radius r and height h, and a slant height (10 by square root 3).
Find the value of h for whcih the volume is a maximum.

(Volume of a cone: 1/3 Pi (r squared) h)

I know it requires differentiation, but I don't know whaere to start.
Any help? A few pointers in the right direction would be great.

It goes to show how much we learn in school that we'll never need, that most people here don't have a clue.

Me I can't help you much, I haven't gotten to this kind of stuff in schoolwork yet (sounds like calc?), and by "10 by square root of 3" do you mean 10 cubed? Or am I having a blank-out moment (I've been up for about 25 hrs now). If so, then I would figure the answer is right around 1000, because your max volume is going to result when the slant height is slightly less than h, with r being very small, right? Again, sorry if this is way off..

No problem! The answer is 10, or 123.5! thumbsup.gif
wait no.. it could be 167979.38.

I really do not think that a forum primarily dedicated to the paranormal is the best place to search for answers to your homework.
