Hello original.gif This is my first post here and I'm happy to have found this great forum! I came across it while searching for info on what my family experienced around 1:15 EST this morning. I live in a rural town in North Carolina, USA and trust me, not much happens way out here in "the sticks" lol, so please excuse any newbie ignorance I have on this subject!
Around 1:15 a.m. or so, I was in my home office working on the computer and my 13 yr. old daughter was sleeping. My husband works third shift so he wasn't home at the time. There was a sudden, violent BOOM that literally shook the entire house. Windows rattled and everything seemed to fall dead silent for a few seconds but before I could register what had happened...there was another equally loud and vibratory BOOM that sounded and felt as if some huge wave or force had hit the front of my house. My daughter came tearing down the hallway, terrified and shaking and asking what had happened. I wouldn't say that I scare very easily under most circumstances but I felt as if my heart had caught in my throat. The whole thing was beyond unnerving. I called 911 and was amazed to find the line was busy since our local sheriff's office rarely sees much action or crime in these parts. When I was finally able to reach the sheriff's deputy, he told me that people were calling in from as far away as 45 minutes from here, all reporting basically the same thing I have described to you here in my post. He was unable to tell me what had happened and suggested that I call back if I knew anything more.
I waited until this afternoon to call back and see if there had been any new developments, but was told that the cause was still unknown and that they had only been able to rule out possibilities. Local Fire and Rescue Squads have reported that there were no explosions that might explain the sounds and the military bases about 3 and a half hours from here have denied that any test flights or otherwise were scheduled or performed last night. Meteorologists have ruled out any weather related phenomena as well.
While looking for any info on the net today about this, I came across quite a few articles describing similar events all across the United States and especially on the North Carolina coast that also remain unexplained. (we live about 3-4 hours from the coast).
Anyways, just thought I'd share and see if anyone else has ever experienced these types of unexplained sounds or has any further knowledge on them! Thanks original.gif

Firstly, welcome aboard Lunakitn, glad to have you with us. We are one big happy family, and look forward to more posts, and you having an active part in this forum.

With reference to your question… Hmmm? You say there’s a military base not to far from your location. Because if they were doing any classified flight tests, the likelihood that they would admit to it would be below zero…

Also, the meteorologist say there’s no strange phenomena happening in your area? Have you been having strange weather patterns lately? Overly hot, or humid? There’s one strange weather pattern - I forget its name - but it’s a huge intake of wind, like filling a void, which cases a mighty booming sound to echo for miles, and it normally happens around the coastline, where the cold wind from the sea meets the hot wind from the land!

When I was living in England, every night at 9pm there would be a loud booming noise, and all the glasses in the cabinet would shake and your ears would pop. It was concord just hitting the sound barrier as it took off from the airport miles away.

Hope you find some answers, or someone else on this forum has a better explanation than my raving… crying.gif

Once again, welcome Lunakitn... wavey.gif

Hello Kryso!

Thanks for the welcome and great info! I do live about a three and a half hour drive from the North Carolina coast as well as the Marine and Air Force Bases, but from what's been reported so far, there were no calls made from those areas to report unusual noises...only from our area and about a 60 mile radius around us. I know absolutely nothing about military test flights and such...but I've heard a sonic boom before and while this had a similar sound and pattern (the two close booms), it "felt" more like some sort of aftershock hit the house. Very strange stuff I tell ya, lol. Now look who's raving laugh.gif

Thanks again for the very nice welcome! wavey.gif

Maybe a meteor exploded in the atmosphere above your area? I know that can occur on occasion and if it was fragmented that would explain the double boom.

When I was 9 My family and I were drininf back to our house from Joplin. We saw a bright light flash and heard a loud boom. Not quite like yours, it was a transformer blowing up.

Welcome!! My husband and I lived by a military base for a few years, and when they tested weapons, it sounded and felt like what you're describing. If your base is testing a new weapon, they're not likely to admit it, either. Anyhoo, hope you like it here. (I'm new, too. Everyone's quite warm.) original.gif

Reminds me of the bomb drills the military does in the mountains by my house. Sounds likea thunder storm right over our heads. And the low flying helicopters. I hate those helos. Shakes our entires house. I think they do it on purpose. crying.gif

I live in the northeast part of Pennsylvania and I have heard two of these "booms" over the past 5 years or so. One was in the dead of winter and one was in mid summer. No one else heard these sounds in my area, only the people in my home. The only explaination I could come up with other than supernatural, was the expansion and contraction of my house under extreme hot and cold conditions.
