My wife and I bought a house in central Kansas 7 years ago and was in serious disrepair. So, with time and money we gutted the house leaving only the frame we started to rebuild. During the "gutting" of the house we found several items that told of the history of the house. Built in the late 1800 it stood as a cafe "The Stoles Cafe" we know this because we found items (receipts) that confirmed our thoughts. But the most prized find was an insurance policy from before Kansas became a state. After the cafe was sold to the local Wesleyan University it was converted into the Pastors home for the church that adjoined the university. The pastor was married to a woman named Mary she was the principal of a local school. We know this because of documents we found in the house (report cards dated 1912 with her signature). In 1922 they had a boy and in 1941 he shipped off to the army in San Luis Obispo, CA., there he married and returned to this home with his wife. In 1946 Mary died, we know this because of cards found in the walls expressing condolences for the loss. Since the time we have moved in there have been strange things that have occured. Shadows moving behind us, the feeling of a presence close to us. The smell of perfume upstairs, as well as footsteps. The opening of drawers and cupboards in the kitchen. Things falling off of cabinets, as well electrical appliances being turned on. Our dogs sense the presence at times because they start to whimper and then bark at apparently nothing. We have also found out that families during that time period especially in the late 1800's to early 1900's buried loved ones in the basement of homes. But we cannot confirm that infact she was buried in the basement because of concrete. She is not distructive nor angry, just here. We would like to know if in fact it is whom we suspect. How would we go about this aside of hiring people to come in and investigate. Any thoughts.....

Thanks

Hello, BustaNET! Welcome to Unexplained Mysteries! This appears to be your first post and it is truly interesting. I assume the house to be a "wood-frame" construction though it must be sturdily built. The only advice I can give you is to ask around more about what you should do before you allow just any team of "investigators" to roam all over your house. Start quietly I would say. Look for some medium who is officially recognised, well known and who has credentials. Ask him or her around to get an idea. I don't think one "invitatation to tea"...sort of thing would be enough. It might be better get some psychic who lives not too far away and who could call by rather frequently, gradually to absorb the atmosphere over a more or less long period. Sorry I can't say more for the moment. Good luck! Lonecat thumbsup.gif

I agree with lonecat. Get a good medium in there if you want to know what is going on. I don't want to disparage the TAPS model of high-tech "ghost hunting." It's valuable, and it has its place. But it will almost never give you any information as to who, what, when, and where the phenomena are coming from. For that, you have to communicate directly with the entities involved, and that's what a transmedium does.

You can give the medium an opportunity to verify that he or she is in fact communicating with a discorporate. For example, don't disclose the documents to the medium. Instead, tell the disembodied soul(s) that a medium is on the way, that you would really like to understand what this soul is trying to tell you, and to please show these documents (or some other specific bit of information) to the medium so that you know the medium is on the up and up. Then see if the medium comes up with the info. If the medium doesn't impress you with a spectacular "hit" of some sort, get another one.

EVPs and thermal imaging are important to the field, but they can't provide the kind of confirmation and specific content that this kind of experiment can.

In the meantime, you might train yourself to better understand your own "mediumistic" or psychic impressions. Or maybe other people in your household would be inclined to undertake the project. There are several good books on the topic. You Are Psychic by Debra Lynne Katz is a very straightforward one that should be available in any big bookstore. What I like about her book is that you do as she says, and it either works or it doesn't. In any case, what do you have to lose by giving it a shot? At worst, you'll find out that it's all bunk, and there's no ghosts and no psychic powers. And that would be a valuable thing to know.

Interesting post! Well, if you were get a medium there and that medium tells you that she is, in fact, buried in the basement area (under this concrete), do you have plans on moving it? And if not- how would you deal with the knowing that a person is buried under your house? Just curious! wink2.gif
