I have been watching Doctor Who on You Tube. In many episodes he mentions the Time War that destroyed his home planet, Gallifrey.

Does any one know....was there an episode that showed the Time War? Or did they just throw the "talk" about the Time War in without an episode?

If there really is an episode... what is the name of that episode and which doctor was it?

Can you help?

There is no actual episode or episodes that shows it; it's only a reference made by Eccleston in last year's season. Sorry disgust.gif

Apparently the Daleks make a real attempt to destroy the Gallifreians, and in the end, they both destroy each other.

It would be good to see such an episode though!

Thanks.

I wasn't sure if there was one or not.

Since I missed just about every episode after the fifth doctor started. But I did see the 1996 movie.

The time war is supposed to have happened, from the Doctors perspective, between the Paul McGann film film and the first time we meet Christopher Ecclestone's Doctor. I suspect that part of the Doctor's life will be left mysterious. For example he regenerated in that period but (unless my memory is failing me) we are never told the circumstances of this.

It would be cool to see a movie on this.. and a more serious sci-fi film more in tone with the original series than the watered down, kiddy friendly, bright and chirpy, lets go for a cheap laugh tripe they have made it into.

David Tennant is a good Doctor and there have been some alright moments (School Reuinion, Long Game and Tooth And Claw for example) but there have been some really bad moments (Farting garbage bins, Bad Wolf, Ninja Monks fighting in bullet time for example - slow motion is the last resort of an un-imagnitive director) and good god, the Runaway Bride was just plain awful...

Actually, I really like the new doctor. These episodes are great.

However, with the runaway bride episode....I had to watch it twice...the brides ascent was rather thick and I couldn't understand her. Other then that, I think they are really good.

Catherine Tate played the bride.. I can't stand her. She isn't funny and her acting was awful.. And the 'car chase' with the Tardis following the car and the kids watching and the big 'jump' moment... was actually kinda lame.

The new Doctor Who has been ok, truth be told I haven't been watching it religiously though. I mean some of the stories have been alright. I just think the execution hasn't always been the best. And some bits have been just down right lame/cheesy - burping dustbins? The Absorbaloff? The Tardis 'car chase'? I know this has been aimed more at a younger age group but there is no need to dumb it down or have cheap laughs or little stupid kiddy things. I mean the original, while cheesy in some things it did, always carried a serious tone and it was interesting and at times scary, and kids loved to watch that. Why couldn't they just stick to a similar tone? Here is a comparison - If the original is on par with Star Trek then this new version feels more on par with Red Dwarf! (not that there is anything wrong with RD, RD is awesome)
The Scissorman
Doctor Who is a good show. Terrible acting sometimes, but hey, it's television. And the episode with the Absorbaloff was kind of stupid. The only problem I have with doctor who is that it spawed a cult following that contains a Goth-Hating Former-Goth Nazi-Minded guy who carries a sonic screwdriver, wears a Tenth Doctor outfit most of the time (even though he's fifteen (although he looks about thirty).), always has a bag of jelly babies, thinks I'm trying to steal his girlfreind and should go and cut myself and cry in the corner.
Erm. I suppose that didnt have much relevance.

Yeah, or that finale! It was a bit silly with the whole "dying" thing. However, the ending was perfect- when he's crying and you're thinking, "This is ridiculous! Everything's so weepy," only for him to turn a corner and get yelled at by some woman in wedding gown. I dunno, it's a bittersweet show. I just love the cinematography of it...
Also, I agree with The Crow, the older episodes are written better.
