truethat

I'm curious what your answers will be.

Mine include

People who use spelling mistakes as a reason to dismiss a persons argument. Not talking about when you don't understand what a person is saying but rather when someone makes a typical mistake like "your" or "you're" and then the debater says "Come back when you know how to spell" or some other such nonsense in order to get out of not having a real rebuttal.

People who try to drag people into argumentative conversations by specifically quoting something they have said and then asking a personal question.

Ex. "I got so fed up with this woman at the grocery store with her bratty kid today" and the reply being "Well how many kids do you have!?" as if that has anything to do with the situation.

People who write long lengthy diatribes flexing their knowledge with tons of quotes and links. I don't know maybe I am lazy but I tend to skip over those posts.

Hmmm thinking. I probably have done some of these myself but they still bug me. Actually I don't think I've done the spelling one though.

Oh one more. People who just google something and then post a link. As if this is the equivalent to researching an answer.

isis-999
I have a few.. one is people being rude just cause they don't agree...I also have a problem with people who think they know everything even when they don't.....But i guess the biggest one is the lack or respect some show to other's.....If you don't agree you don't have to make fun of someone..Just move to another post...

Pelican_Eel
I don't like when people quote a really long post of the previous poster just to say "yes, I agree."
Adam2006
When a topic/argument just goes into people quoting each other and nothing actually getting discussed, just one person saying how unclear the other one says, and this goes on for pages with people just quoting each other. (see 'Atheism, the greatest evil?' pages 4+)

A lack of punctuation or capital letters at the start of sentances, it makes it very hard to read. I can cope with bad spelling but not punctuation.

A lack of paragraphing, also makes things hard to read, just one huge block of text.

I agree with most of what truethat said. I tend to skip excendingly large posts. sleepy.gif

I also try to use Emoticons as much as possible in a post, I find it bland without tongue.gif
truethat
I agree with those! When someone's going pages and pages and not trying to understand the other person's point of view you realize they are just debating to be right. Not trying to understand the other person's opinion.

Most of the War in Iraq threads are like this.
Allfather of Valhalla
People who dismiss EVERYTHING I say.

People who forget the hit the CAPS button and post whole sentences in CAPS.

I have this odd feeling that I know of atleast one poster you appear be talking about...tee hee.

I think my biggest pet peeves are people who quote you and then don't even address what they quoted, but instead use your quote to launch into a diatribe against you in general.

Another pet peeve is people who, apparently, write the same way they talk or as thoughts are occurring to them and then don't bother to go over what they wrote to make sure it will make sense to the reader. I do not claim to b perfect at this but I usually preview what I'm going to post to make sure I didn't misspell a word, or use incorrect grammar, and I also try to read it as if I were someone coming upon that post, does it make sense? Does it really say what I intended to say?

I hear you on that one. linked-image

1. Watching someone hijack a thread with their own pet rant over and over again.
2. Really, really long replies, usually containing a multitidue of unrelated "facts" and quotes held together with a logic thread that a three year old could pick apart, but will take you more than two hours to respond to.
GoddessWhispers
Replies in pet peeve threads, that then serve to show anyone reading where your buttons are. tongue.gif

First replies to a post that quote the post starter.

When people don't know the difference between "their", "there" and "they're". Though I never post and complain about it.

When people don't know when to use "to" and "too".

I also don't like when people type one word responses and or quote someone and say "I agree" or something like that to get their post count up.

<--- Post count 666, as of this post. Some people probably see pointing out 666 as one of their pet peeves. Haha. grin2.gif

When it becomes off topic to the original thread.
then its just a converstation. Not to say conversations are bad , but Topic threads are for a Topic to be disscussed.

Also rude remarks , and close mindedness as to my observvations in most people today on these forums in cyberspace, lack understanding of the psycological indepence of expression and individual circumstances that make every individual unique to every post, Judgement of others without realizing certain facts of the human being call for alarm in my book.
It is unsettleing, It would be nice if empathy or an increase of optimism could play more of a active role in understanding whats behind just what someone types. there is a person .

So lack of understanding on all parts even mine.

I also hate it when people quote an entire post just to put one of these guys tongue.gif under it..No words, just a tongue.gif.

For me, it's bad grammar... AND THIS GETS PRETTY ANNOYING TOO yes.gif

1- Reaaaally long posts (though I recognize I've made quite a few myself tongue.gif)
2- Also those posts which are made by only one big block of text and written so obscurely that you end up more confused than when you began to read them.
3- Hateful posts (pretty self-explanatory)
4- THIS KIND OF POSTS WHICH ARE ONLY MADE OF YELLING AND NAME-CALLING
5- Aaaand.... when I make one post which took me +2 hours to do yet noone answers.
6- Being the last poster on a thread ph34r.gif

Just being met with a big wall of text with no paragraphs...

People that annoy me easily on boards, are morons. No, morons are not people I dislike or do not agree with, Morons are people who think they know something when they don't know it at all.

You are a moron....just joking.
People that can't spell 4 letter words and expect you to believe them.
People that can't even spell the topic correctly....there is a spell check please use it.
Finally......people that label other people as morons when the moron knows 4 times more..... w00t.gif

Yup to most and especially the last.

Also, being called a sheep just because you don't believe everything they say.

There are just way to many... (too many? AAHAHA >.>)

However I will go into one of them.

Netspeak.

For the love of the gods people... this is a message board. You can afford the time to type out words. Now this is not to say I'm dissing people who can't spell. I sure as hell can't. Dyslexia has this nice habit of making things look right, so when you go over your posts.. you don't pick up the mistake.

HOWEVER, if I need a translator to understand what the hells you're saying by a post like..

Liek omg! did u c that c00l d0g in teh vid? Go c ti b4 its g0n!

*breaks brain trying to write that*

Now things like.. omgs, lol, rofl... meh ok. I use them.. but those kind of portray emotions then trying to say something.

So please... shortening little words into letters is bad and makes me want to eat your face!

(And I used a bloody spell checker. So if there is any spelling mistakes, then yell at SpellCheck.net ;P)

Another thing that seems to happen here lately which I loathe, is the utterly stupid topics. Like

I hate stupid fake posts..............like "I come from the future"........or "I can move objects with my mind"

Lack of grammar and paragraphs.......sometimes I'd like to snap and give these posters a piece of my mind......

Your post is the world's greatest proof of reincarnation; no one could get that dumb in just one lifetime. In future, kindly proofread your posts before assaulting unsuspecting readers of this message board with a litany of misspellings, egregious grammatical errors, and other verbal atrocities.

You read like a gimpzoid teenager splashing spit onto the monitor. Don’t you ever have a point beyond giving your fingers some exercise by dancing them randomly over the keyboard? You must have a very large brain to hold such a vast amount of sheer ignorance. However, I'll consider letting you have the last word if you guarantee it will be your last. As Ellen Glasgow once remarked: "He knows so little and knows it so fluently."

When god was handing out personalities, you must have been holding the door. You're so boring, even a boomerang wouldn't come back to you. I'd get more pleasure from running my nostrils down a cactus, than reading another contribution from you. Maybe you wouldn't be such a Jerk-In-The-Box if you weren't living proof that stupid people should not breed.

You are about as entertaining as watching grass grow in a windowbox. What do you do for a living? You are living, aren't you? Any friend of yours is a lousy judge of character. Seriously, I've come across decomposing dog carcases that are less offensive to the senses than you are. Maybe you wouldn't read like such a pathetic loser if your father didn't screw a plant and raised a blooming idiot.

In closing, why don't you put your glasses on backwards and walk into yourself?

PHEW..........I feel better.

You stole all those from that insult website tongue.gif

I must admit that I kind of liked your post Chauncy.

One sentences posts on threads, that have no business being there and aren't much better than a simple little three word "Yes, I agree."
Codes to "decipher" put into paragraph form, or put into mindless 3 sentence off the wall posts. It makes you really wonder if these people really are hopeing that someone "just understands!"
Threads started for attention.
uhmmm... oh and.. Threads that are potential flamewar material.
Threads that are dug up from years and years ago, posted on.. then the person who posted on them never comes back to re-post after people pick the thread back up. That's a true example of "getting the post numbers" especially when they are newbs.
