...When you're only one spec out of 6+ billion on this planet earth, why would it matter whether or not you're living? The world is such a vast place, you seem nothing more than a mere insignificant ant.

Ever felt this way before? I couldn't help but bring this up. Its been bothering me a lot lately.

There is no real point to life, but would you rather be dead?
rob lester
Depends on your attitude...Do you need a "point"?....Live each day as if it is your last ,enjoy it.Get a education , get a good job , get toys ( motorcycles,jetski's,campers,etc..) , make friends.Live it like I do.If you ponder why you are here , you will lose each day you have here.Donate some time to good causes , that makes me feel better about myself. But like I said , we are here ,why?..Who knows , but we are.And we can enjoy it , and make the best of our own lives , or sit back and collect welfare and blame others for how crappy we have it.Personally , I do not worry about why "we" are here , I do what I need to do to enjoy life , and help my family enjoy it also....We are mammals , but with more inteligence. In a way we are like ants , build , re-produce , take over land , etc...But I am living a happy ants life , as happy as I can make it.When my time here is done , maybe than I will know , or maybe it will be darkness , no site,no sound , just nothing..Like when you go in for surgery...So , you can ponder it all of your life , or make the best of what you have right now.And it is up to you , not the government , not anyone else to make it the best you can.....

I just feel really horrible right now guys. I found out that last night a kid from my school died in a car crash, the 7th death at my school caused by drunk driving this year alone. I didn't know him very well but he was very popular and he was friends with my older brother. And his death really got me thinking.

Its just like another life has come and passed. People will grieve for the guy, but will eventually move on with their lives and carry on. It really just made me think, whats the point? Life is really so fragile, you know.

I think your asking the same question alot of people as, But you know life does have great meaning!.... I have wondered many time's what is the point of live myself...I think it's a spirit thing myself, As we get older we grow in spirit as well in size and this is what take's us to a higher plane,.. So what part of NC are you in.....I live in Nash county now myself.......
rob lester
Indigo , not sure if you read my response above...I noticed you pointed out the person was "popular"....Not saying you live your life worrying about "popularity" , but trust me , once school ends that popularity thing will not amount to crap.( I know , 4 years of Varsity Football , starter ).Once you hit the "real life" ,that part is gone. And if the drunk driver thing bothers you , a good outlet is to find a local "charity" ,for lack of a better word that helps educate people on that subject.Could be a good outlet for you.I know a few who have been killed ( motorcyle riders) by dumb drivers , and we do "runs" to fund scholorships for the deceased's children...As I said , do not worry to much about others , wory more about yourself. That is what counts the most , and in this day and age , that will be all you have.

Thanks for the quick response. When you said "do not worry too much about others, worry more about yourself" were you implying that you shouldn't spend time grieving on a deceased one and focus on your own life? Surely you didn't mean that. On the other hand, you were right about the not living for popularity deal. That was only a minor detail of the post, it didn't have any meaning to this thread, I was only implying that he will be sourly missed at school because he was well liked.

It just made me wonder if people just move on and forget about you, what's the point of carrying on in the first place? You're just one person it seems, why bother being here?

I don't know what I'm getting at anymore. no.gif Sometimes I get into that "the-world-is-larger-than-me" funk, and now is one of those times. =/
Pelican_Eel
the world is large, but you are the one in yourself, the largest in yourself... I've been told - individual development has nothing to do with egoism. yes, one dies and we move on, and that's the point. the one who died, he also has his personal development, his plan, his tasks...and death was one of them.
Point of living - probably, the life itself, in my opinion. Because if you think enough, there can be no point. You can say the point is to go to afterlife, but what next, what is a point of this? to get to higher level...and point of this? to reunite with God... and point of this? you see what I mean? we want for some kind of point that doesn't really exist. It means the point is more simple... it is in the process. it is in many little purposes and goals. Or maybe it is something we don't understand.
I hope I make sense. I'm really tired.

Have you mentioned this to your mum at all????? I'm sure she can give you 6 billion reasons why you should hang around!!!!!!
Mr Walker
You are grieving, and the feelings you are experiencing are natural. There is probably nothing any one can say, or do, that will immediately make you feel any better. Even so, let me say that you have touched someone many miles away, and made them cry. That is not something very many of those 6 million or so people who live on the earth have done. Why should a 56 year old man on the other side of the globe cry for you? It could be the memories of the too many young men and women i have taught who have died, particularly in car crashes. Some were caused by silly behaviour, but some were just bad luck. I saw the terrible loss of potential in every one of those young people and the effects on those who loved them . It could be the memories of a much loved child, who took his own life before he reached 30, because he had not been loved enough by others who should have loved him. I don't know you. But whoever you are, it is up to you to go on, to create your own purpose in life. To set your own standards and to live life to the full, trying to reach every damned one of them. And once you get through the grieving, however long it takes, that includes looking after yourself, loving yourself, and having fun, non of which are a crime in this world, even though some people may try to make you think they are. Don't dwell too long on the question of why. It is unanswerable and ultimately unimportant. Ask instead what you can learn from this experience and how it can motivate you in any way at all towards a richer and happier life. I wish you good fortune in your life, but more importantly, I wish you the strength to cope, at times when fortune fails you, and to have a long and amazing life.

You have to find your own reason to live, there no universal reason.

"If nothing we do matters then all that matters is what we do"
"Don't take life too seriously. You'll never get out alive"
"Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious"

"To be upset over what you don't have is to waste what you do have" - Anon

Same principle I suppose with life. You can ponder it all you like but then you will miss out on the beauty that exists here and now in your individual life that no one but yourself will experience. Is that not reason enough to be happy to be here?

Remember even though that kid died his/her journey here was over, I firmly believe that every death (whether sudden or expected) is meant to be. That person's journey in this life is over and people will grieve and will seem to forget him/her but if you ask the parent of that child they never forget. It is all just relative to how you view the situation, remember them for who they were and what they taught you.

The most important thing though is that you live your life now and not by anyone else's standards but by your own because then you will never be disappointed. original.gif

Life and death are not two different states but two different aspects of the same state---Mahatma Gandhi. Reality is what you create it to be. I mean this literally. Change your thought patterns and the outside world around you will change as well.

Indeed I am only one of 6+ billion people on this planet - but I am unique. There is not another person on this planet who is exactly like me. There may be someone who resembles me (that's a scary thought) but they would not BE me.

There might be something I can do that no-one else is able to - or thinks of. Why deny myself the chance to be able to do that something? Even if I never end up doing anything remarkable I'd still be satisfied that I gave myself that chance.

Keep your chin up, keep those around you happy and keep smiling. go through life like that and you will never be forgotten by those important enough to call your friends.

Time is a great healer. in 10 years this incident will be minor, but never forgoten. Don't mourn the loss of someone, smile and remember the good things and then you will have done them a great justice. While you remember them they never die. Be happy, I know when I die I would want people to have a good party and be happy.

But do you think that your older brother's friend would want everyone he cared about to grieve over him the rest of their lives?

Don't sit and worry about what the point of life is, go out and have fun! thumbsup.gif

You count, that makes you i out of the billions that do. If you didnt post this,... there would be no activity here and look at the responses just from the feeling you get whaen thinking of a statsical
outcome.

it is the effects of what yu do and say that effects the rest of the world. every breathe if you feel right about it or not , counts. it always counts for something that seems to make more and more sense as we get older. it doesnt mean its going to feel such as the effect itself. sometimes just the opposite. keep those thoughts once it is in your mind, if its conflicting with your own self worth get rid of it quick its the brain playing a cycle role of repeated events and trys to prepare the mind to handle the outcome better. you count. it is normal to think of a fact like that , just dont dwell on it it wll eat you alive into thinking more uncertianties if thats the case .

you've got to start setting your self goals for your self preservation, dont worry about everyone else....what about you!

i know its not nice being lost, ive been there, but you must stay strong and think about what your going to do for your self, what would you like to achieve.....everyone has a path that only the individual itself chooses where to go,and with that path your choices will ultimately tell your future....you've gotta be strong my dear, and pursue your adventure....! happy.gif

I always feel like that. I just try to ignore it as much as possible.

What is the point of living?

To love and be loved. To make at least one person never forget you, even when you're dead and gone, and to never forget those who matter to you. original.gif

I've felt this way from time to time. I also believe that we all have a purpose in life. No matter how small you may feel, you play a big role in many people's lives.
