Greetings admins and support mods.

I am site admin for a near death forum, and one of the highlights of the forum that member feedback was/is a great idea was the creation of a sub-forum highlighting exceptional posts that appear in the forum.

Once in a while I come across what i would deem an exceptional post. As it currently stands, the post seems to blend in with the other posts and gets lost.

May I suggest you kick around the idea of creating something in this regard where members can nominate a post for selection, and either a mod or site admin committee decides if the post is indeed exceptional (as we do it) or other members can also nominate said posts.

My 2 cents woth anyhoo grin2.gif

What would you consider an "exeptional post"?
Mentalcase
I think that's actually a pretty good idea. Half the reason I rarely post is because, I don't feel like "fishing" for the more intelligent conversations. Sifting through thread after thread of pointless topics can be a pain.

Make that 4 cents.

It's certainly an interesting idea and we'll definately keep it in mind, it's something to consider for the future.

Thanks for suggesting it. thumbsup.gif

I think it would be better to have "exeptional threads" because individual posts may not mean anything on their own or only make sense in context with the rest of the thread.

It would also help stop multiple threads on the same topic.

Another cool idea would be to have a "blog of the week" type thing or too spotlight a particular member.

I agree .. having "exceptional threads" would be better then having a stand alone post.

I think this site already has that with the rating the thread system.
I see some 5 star threads going on.

The way we do it is that the post is highlighted with a url to the thread so people can then read the thread in context.
We also make it a read only sub so comments can't distract the reader from the post itself.
We ask the reader to post relevent comments in the thread itself.
The idea is to highlight some well thought out posts that the members make, and in effect we have found that it actually "raises the bar" if you will, on contributions.

Some interesting comments here so I thank all who took the time to offer their thoughts. yes.gif

What he said yes.gif
As a long time member of the site that Turtles on about i can vouch for his truthfulness and authenticity......But dont let him get carried way as he started segregating the "special" members from the "ordinary" ones over there....Right Turtle ?

i don't thionk the star rating system is that good because you only need one vote ( so the member who creates the thread can make it five star no matter what quality it is) it used to be where you need three votes for the stars to appear. i think that would be better

rolleyes.gif And this has what to do with the suggestion I offered????

The "segregation" you refer to must be the creation of a experiencer-only sub-forum which is not available to General membership view?
BTW, using terms like "special" (meaning experiencers of NDE) from "ordinary"(meaning non-experiencers like you)are words owned by you, not I.
The sub-forum was not my doing, but the result of experiencers asking for such.
The creation of an experiencer only forum is the first one available to experiencers on the web, whom can now share their feelings and thoughts outside the guaze and judgements of non-experiencers.
Sorry you fail to comprehend the fact that these types of experiences are very personal, disruptive and send the experiencer through some profound changes. Having a "special" area where we can discuss personal matters with people whom "been there done that, bought the T-shirt" is just as important to the experiencer as an AA meeting is to an alcoholic.
Some experiencers have a hard time understanding their feelings, let alone explaining it to "ordinary" folk like yourself.
Since you are indeed a member of the forum, you also have been witness to the personal attacks many of the experiencers endured because they could only communicate in an open forum and spend the majority of their time defending tthemselves.
As you know as well, their was very little participation from experiencers themselves and the site was inhabited from religious zealots to bible thumpers and every time an experiencer dared to share some thoughts and feelings, the wagons were circled and they were driven from the site.
Participation by experiencers whom decide to share their experiences has increased, and now have several dozen experiencers whom share their experiences and ideas with everyone in the General forum. Far cry from the one or 2 diehard sadists experiencers whom was there since inception. These experiencers are drawn to the forum because of the experiencer only forum, and we, as mods also encourage participation in the General Forum.
To me it's a win win.
