---------------
Lucid dreaming means dreaming while knowing that you are dreaming.
Lucidity usually begins during a dream when the dreamer realizes that the experience is not occurring in physical reality, but is a dream. Often this is triggered by the dreamer noticing some sort of dream sign, something that is unlikely to occur in reality.
Sometimes people become lucid without noticing any type of dream signs; they just suddenly realize they are dreaming.
The basic definition of lucid dreaming requires nothing more than becoming aware that you are dreaming.
There are many techniques and reasons to experience lucid dreaming.
Below are some simple exercises to try for awhile. Everyone is different and there is no set speed or length of time before you're able to experience lucid dreams.
Some find that one of the following exercises is enough for them to start experiencing lucid dreams others find they need to combine more than one. For some it takes only a few weeks, for others a few months sometimes less sometimes longer.
An important method to start off with is keeping a dream journal. I can not stress this enough! Record anything you can remember when you wake up from your dreams. Once you get used to keeping a dream journal you usually are able to remember more and all of your dream instead of only parts of it.
You'll want to look over your journal for any types of patterns or similar things in your dreams. These are called dream signs.
Some dream signs include the dreamer being in a different body or doing something or acting in a way that is not usual or normal. Also doing something that is unlikely or impossible in reality such as flying or jumping very high or far distances. Other dream signs are if you see objects that are unusual.
Once you find the patterns you'll want to ask yourself am i awake or am i dreaming. Try doing this numerous times a day as much as possible. This way when you experience one of these signs you'll be more likely to ask yourself this question in the dream, which is called reality testing, because you are familiar with these patterns and signs from reviewing your journal.
Another method to try would be telling yourself before bed each night a goal. An example is " tonight i will have a lucid dream" or "tonight when i dream i will realize i am dreaming".
This is a very simple method and if you do this often every night you will start realizing you are dreaming.
With this one method i could talk about so much. This method could also be used for simply remembering your dreams. Tell yourself every night "when i wake up i will remember my dream".
There are many techniques and methods to try, you may even come up with your own. The best thing is to try numerous methods until you find one you are comfortable with and get results from.
There are many positive reasons to become lucid and also simply because it is fun. It is something that takes patience and practice. The best thing to do is realize you can do it, you can do anything and have patience. Don't allow yourself to get frustrated with it. Remember this should be fun not stressful.
