You mean the Beast of Gévaudan? I believe there are a number of threads on this topic already, but here is the wiki.

The film 'Brotherhood of the Wolf' was centered on the legend of the Beast of Gevaudan.

there are tons of threads on this topic, and tons of sites as well. Or if your feeling froggy you can actually go there and see the revolver that killed it and the plaque honoring the victims. Might want to google it now that you know what it was.
lufia
wow this is awesome, thanks for bringing this up. never heard of it yes.gif
Tia
Just don't believe the films version too much....... on the dvd there is extra features one of which talks to an expert on wolves in that area. This man had also done quite a bit of study on the subject, now that's worth watching.
Sea_maid13
Iv'e heard of that wolf-like creature. The Beast of Gevaduan. the phenomenon of that still has me wondering......
But my guess is that the killings are not made up, and that a beast has been prowling the countryside.

The killings were not made up. Their all pretty well documented, The beast killed over a hundred people as far as i know. Although i don't think it's very common for a werewolf to be present during the daytime , Although there are some that the older they are they can change anytime they want. Also a young girl that was the sole survivor of an attack said that it had hands like a man and it's arms were jointed like a persons would be. There are alot of non-believers of werewolves from what i've seen and that's fine , I am and always will be a firm believer in them simply because it's easy to sit back and say Oh , They were hallucinating or they were nuts or what they saw was a person with a medical condition. Ijust take into all the hundreds of sightings and accounts into consideration and say well all these people couldn't have been nuts because there is just too much stange stuff in this world to just write them off as just legend or myth.

I think that werewolves were shaman seduced by the dark powers while summoning animal spirits, the reason they appeared as monsters to the people was more of a metaphysically projected personifacation of their spirit, or that of the dark spirit that possessed them. I dont beleive that people can physically, biologically turn into animals, but I do beleive that one can project themselves as an animal to those who see them. Beleive it or not I have done this on occasion, not that I would attack people. This particular beast however was never seen or reported to change forms, aside from the differences from one sighting to another, which would further the beleif that the beast form was a psychic projection.

It is however just as easy to say that it was a mythical creature to with only unreliable here say as evidence where as the physical and mental dispositiions are very well documented and are actually proven to be real.
The most obvious answer is nearly always the correct one when looking at evidence. In these cases you would have to go with mental illness and hairiness as the is no scientific evidence for werewolves at all.

Oh i agree that their are people out there that have medical conditions such as excess hair and such but what i was referring to was along the lines of the beast of bray road and sightings like that where people have come out and said that it had hands like a man and the arms and legs are jointed just like a persons would be , And one woman that paid atettion to the arms said that they were very defined like person that worked out to me that's pretty hard to discount. But people are going to believe what they want.

Managed to get the movie mentioned in this topic finally! It's called 'Brotherhood of the Wolf'. It's a French movie, dubbed in English. Watched it last night, pretty good popcorn movie, good fight scenes, but it didn't say much about the beast, except that it wasn't a free roaming wild creature, but actually it was bred in captivity and set loose occasionally to feed on the locals. Added incentive to watch the movie (for the guys anyway) Monica Bellucci is in it.

The Beast of Gévaudan was probably just a very big wolf. Still interesting, though.

Perhaps it had a taste for horse, snails and frogs legs? It couldn't stroll into a restaurant and get a few to take away, so it sniffed out French people who'd eaten them recently and ate them instead.

Well, I can pick them them up by the shell, but not the slimy bit.

Im sure you shouldn't touch the slimy part, the salt in your skin might be very painful to them, even kill them.

La Bete is one of my favourite mysteries. Around the time of the killings quite a few large dogs with attitude were introduced to the area. I think I posted my research up on here somewhere about the breeds introduced to France around the time and ones that would be likely to have made a hybrid.

I believe she was a wolf/ dog hybrid and under the control of a human. What creeps me out is stories that people came out with saying they'd hear a nice outside of their cottage and La Bete would be standing at their window still looking in. ohmy.gif

Haha, reminds me of the old Guinness advert with the racing snails! Dunno why, though... Think is, a stoned snail would be even slower than a normal one, and probably eat twice as much of your prize cabbages. Some of them you can watch out for I guess, like Helix chavarius which has a burberry shell...

laugh.gif what, like I suppose "Year of the Wolf" as well? But then... that was a real song...

Actually, You know the Misfits did a couple of songs like that, like Frencheaters (French for dinner, French for lunch, French for breakfast French for brunch, French at every single meal why can't we get some Brits? Oi Oi Oi!) w00t.gif
