Alright, I'm setting here watching the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and I know that ol' Leatherface is based on the crimes of Ed Gein, and even the house is loosely based on his home. Ed Gein however lived all alone and was somewhat of a recluse. I also know of that old Scottish clan that was reputedly murderous cannibals, long, long ago. So far as I know though their have been no families of serial murderers in American history, but would welcome reports, theories or legends otherwise.
I am also familiar with the Starkweather murder spree and the Copeland murders and robery, though these were couples so I wouldn't consider them murderous families.

Good grief you got me thinking now. That Scottish Clan business, I read about that somewhere a while back, can't remember where or when though, now that's doing my head in lol, I think it may be in a book I have about various crimes and murders, if I find it I will post back.

I have a old book from the 70s somewhere with that family in it. They lived in a cave on the shore of a lake or something. Now you got me diving in the attic.

You're talking about the "Sawney" Bean family from Scotland.

Here's a link to one of many sites that cover this legend.

Well you have the Bloody Benders from Kansas. The whole family was in on it. I dont think they ate their victims or did anything like that really. Just hit them over the head, took whatever they had and then buried the corpse.

Hi i'm from and live in Bonnie Scotland - it is indeed the Sawney Bean family you speak off - i have also studied serial killers etc and its rare the whole family takes part most serial killers operate singularly because they hate their mothers/families so don't let them in on the act - you get quite a few couples though like husbands/wifes that sort of thing like Fred and Rose West - who hunted together or the Moors Murderers etc.
