"Dark Knight" Casting News

Don't get too excited Bat-fans, nothing confirmed as yet in regards to who will be playing Harvey Dent in the upcoming "Batman Begins" sequel.

Rather Latino Review has some very important pieces of casting news related to the film today, notably who will NOT be making it into the film.

First off - NO PENGUIN. The shooting draft of the script will not involve either The Penguin or his other moniker Oswald Cobblepot. For months the Penguin, in the form of a European arms dealer, has long been talked about as having a small role.

Secondly - NO KATIE HOLMES. Her character of Rachel Dawes IS in the film, but the filmmakers are now actively searching for a replacement to take on the part.

Holmes' representative tells The Wall Street Journal that "Katie was offered ["Dark Knight"] but was unable to accept the role because of scheduling conflicts. She was in the process of negotiating for another project". That project is Queen Latifah's "Mad Money".

Other minor roles in the film will include an East European mobster, an Elizabeth Pena-style Latina cop, and an Asian male accountant.

Finally - Harvey Dent is in the film but still no word on casting. At last word Jamie Foxx and Ed Norton are the latest names the filmmakers are said to be interested in for roles.

The film began pre-production two weeks ago and is on course for a March start of shooting.

Thank the Gods that Katie Holmes isn't in this one... I honestly can't stand her & I'm tired of seeing her EVERYWHERE! Grrr... Here's hoping there's some better casting this time around!

I agree liokee, the casting could have been better, but this was my favorite batman hope the second is just as good

I am one of those guys that thought Katie Holmes character should have bin replaced by Harvey Dent for the first film.

I hope there isnt a new love interest in every film...its a cliche'. He's not 007.

I was thinking just take the love interest out...their doesn't need to be one every single Batman film

a love intrest is essential in any action film to give it an estrogen kick from all the testosterone flying around but yet i still say batman should bat for the other team at least for 1 film lol

Dark Knight in Chi-Town
Batman heading back to the Windy City.
by Stax

US, January 31, 2007 - Batman is once again heading to the Windy City. Batman Begins was shot partially on location in Chicago and it now appears that its sequel, The Dark Knight, will be as well.

Warner Bros. has reportedly scheduled 13 weeks of filming in Chicago mid-year, according to the Chicago Tribune. Chicago doubled as Gotham City in the previous film, with its skyline enhanced and altered via CGI.

ReelChicago.com spoke with Chicago Film Office head Rich Moskal, who referred to a top-secret Warners project that is set to film in Chi-Town this year. And that project's name is ... Rory's First Kiss, which Batman-on-Film.com claims is the not so secret codename for The Dark Knight.

In addition to Chicago, The Dark Knight will reportedly lens in the U.K., Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

The last thing this movie needs is to be an even bigger gay joke then Batman and Robin was...

BTW Heath Ledger as the Joker will tank this movie in the box office...I mean he's no Jackie N. no.gif

Phillippe Talks Two-Face
But has Eckhart put a Dent in his plans?
by Stax

US, February 2, 2007 - One of the rumored contenders for the role of D.A. Harvey Dent (the man who will become Two-Face) in The Dark Knight is Ryan Phillippe. IGN spoke one-on-one with Ryan Phillippe today during the press junket for his new movie Breach. When asked about the Dent rumors in the past, Phillippe had always stressed that there wasn't a script ready yet for him to see in order to consider the role.

Now that the script is finished and filming is slated to begin next month, have there been any overtures made to Phillippe about playing the part? "I think they may have talked at different times to my representation, but no decision has been made. It would be fun." When asked if he was shutting the door on that possibility, he replied "no."

It is possible, however, that Phillippe is no longer being seriously considered for the role. According to LatinoReview.com, Aaron Eckhart (The Black Dahlia, Thank You For Smoking) is "the leading contender for Harvey Dent." (Ironically, Eckhart starred in The Missing opposite Tommy Lee Jones, who played Two-Face in Batman Forever.)

The site adds that it has also heard that Maggie Gyllenhaal (World Trade Center, Stranger Than Fiction) is in the running to replace Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes, the asst. D.A. who is Bruce Wayne's love interest.

So far the only confirmed Dark Knight cast members are Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman.

Batman Suffers Blunt Force Trauma
The Dark Knight circles Prada actress.
by Stax

US, February 1, 2007 - Ever since the official word that Katie Holmes was not going to reprise her role as Bruce Wayne's love interest and assistant district attorney Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight, inquiring minds have wanted to know who would replace her.

The rumor mill first suggested that Wedding Crashers co-star Rachel McAdams was up for the role. Now CinemaBlend.com, via a reliable source, claims that Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) is being eyed for the part:

"(The) folks behind the Batman Begins sequel are impressed with her, and may bring Blunt in to read for the role. ... (Even) if this is true it only means that Emily Blunt is being considered for the part of Rachel Dawes. It doesn't mean she has it."

Cinema Blend also adds that their "same anonymous source insists that Katie didn't leave the project, but was dropped."

The 23 year-old British-born Blunt will next be seen in Wind Chill, The Jane Austen Book Club, The Great Buck Howard and Dan in Real Life.

Blunt's reps at CAA and Ken McReddie Associates had not yet replied to IGN's inquiries for comment by publishing time.

If they are both in the movie it will just be bad press...because the jokes will be too easy. The Batman franchise already suffers from gay jokes. The whole thing will overshadow the movie up untill its release...just like how the Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes relationship overshadowed the first one.

I think they will go with someone a little bit older for Harvey Dent though...Gyllenhaul looks too young in my opinion.
