Full Version: Chicken born with duck legs and feet

There is a chicken that was born with duck feet and legs. Scientists say that ducks cannot mate with chickes so it was a genetic mutation. Wish I had the link but it was on the TV. Looked like a normal chicken on top, just the legs and feet were like a duck, poor guy must be hard to get a date.

When humans develop we have webbed feet, it is only programed cell death that stops us being born with webbing. It is the same in all tetrapod based animals. I would presume that in the case there was a mutation and cell death did not occur

Hmmm, a ducken? It's the next step in evolution! w00t.gif

i have webbed toes.... its not as bad as it sounds but if i were to compare with a "normal" foot you can tell the difference

ill take a pic and post it!

It shows my point, all terrestial vertebrates have webbed appendages during development, and cell death cause them to de-web. Sometimes, a mutation prevents this.

So it's not a ducken and just a chicken that didn't develope properly? Bummer. I wonder if it could swim though.

Sorry, yeah.

It probably could swim, I think pretty much every vertebrate can to some extent. (Though I could be wrong, but I can not think of any that can't)

The chicken didn't have chicken feet with webbing, it had duck feet and legs. Big old duck feet, it was the strangest looking chicken.

Seeing as it's more chicken than duck, may I suggest a Chucken?

Would have loved to see a picture of it...

Ahh well, thanks for trying.
Is this breaking news? Because sometimes it can take a while...
perhaps we'll get something in a day or two.

Does anybody know what channel it was on?

How do you know that it had 'duck legs', and not just legs which looked like a ducks?

The same mutation could affect that, the same gene for altering the foot physical shape is likely the same one the initiates cell death of the cells that form the webbing.
