I was walking to my class when I saw two men standing in the middle of the quad shouting quite loudly about Jesus and Heaven and God and all that. I walked by just to see what exactly they were preaching, mostly just the usual "I was once a sinner and then I gave my life to Jesus" and responding to questions with "Let me look it up here in my Bible" and of course "if you don't change your evil ways, you're definitely going to Hell", when I spotted a big banner they had put up that read "GOD SAYS" and then listing several things that their god says. What disturbed me a little was that, in the middle of the list was written "We must judge some people" and under that was "God does hate some people"! I was beside myself because I always thought that God loved all of his children and hoped that they would repent if they were sinners and find him! So tell me, IS it alright to judge some people in the name of your god? And DOES the Christian God actually hate people?

Some say yes.. some say no. Depends on how you translate what the bible says, and what your personal beliefs are in the abrahamic god.

This is why I believe that Christianity is a broken religion- having strayed so far from the teachings of Christ that it doesn't even deserve the name anymore.

some people have waaaaaaaaaaaay too much time on their hands.
Were these college students? If so, shouldn't they have been in class?
If they weren't college students, why were they there? Wouldn't that constitute trespassing?

Sometimes I get so angry with my family because the are all "Christians" but really they just strike my as being hypocrites. They are so out of touch with spirituality and don't seem to seek it out.
The old pastor of their church drove a fire red Z28

He was obviosly in touch with God

I think in her context that collge was another wod for university...which would make more sense, converting university students than school kids...

my question still stands queen:
What was their business there?
If they were students, fine they have the right of free speech.
BUT, if they were 'missionaries', preaching, then they have no business on university grounds, if that was their sole purpose.

Ah ok, I was just referring to "whyweren't they in class" bit.
Where I am, the Uni's are pretty relaxed about who comes in and out, so long as they don;t make trouble.
Come to think of it, preching always asks for trouble.
I wonder if they managed to stay there long

Are you kidding? You wouldn't believe the crap that happens on campus where I went to school and where Flaco works now. Have you ever seen PCU? Its like that; there's always plenty of "cause-heads" on hand that either take 6.5 credit hours or skip class all the time to influence you to get involved, give your money, give your time, stage a sit in, participate in a walkout, march on the courthouse, form a human shield, wear tape over your mouth, pitch a tent on the quad and live there for a week (or live in a tree), hunger strike, pacifist circle, peaceful riot or in this case
feel the spirit.
College kids shouldn't have this much time on their hands but trust me they find the time.

I am not a Bible thumper by any means, but when people start making up all these dumb rules about what the hell you have to do to go to heaven, etc....
Well, I am reminded of a short passage myself:
In the New Testament, this guy asks Jesus a simple question. "Master, what must I do to enter the Kingdom of God?"
Answer from J.C. "Love God, love your neighbor as yourself."
That was the whole deal. The rest is made up by religious leaders, most whom base their worship of a Divine Being on a very shaky premise: FEAR.
Fear is a bad motivator. It has diminishing returns, like beating your kid when he misbehaves...

Well I am under the impression that christians are supposed to judge other christians because they "know better" than to stray. Those outside of the church don't "know any better" therefore are not to be condemed by us, but are to be "helped". Also, I am no longer a christian, but I believe thats what I was taught.
The whole phrase "God hates some people" just really makes me sick. :-/

It all comes down to, whos doing the preaching, Christianity for some is used for Love & Peace and for others more used to the extent of extremism. Its what SilverCougar says, it depends on how a person translates the Bible and how they use what they interpret. This is one of the major reasons why many people are falling away from organized religion, too many Bible Beaters .... many don't like being 'preached' too. Best to hold your faith and beliefs your own way.

I think it is wise to not judge others. This pratice will lead to self judgement when compassion would be best.

I don't believe it is either

. The fact that someone would actually take the bible and preach hate is just horrible. I know there is a lot of homophobia in the bible, but shouldn't christians be out to "help" (Note: I don't think there is anything wrong with being gay at all and I believe there is nothing to help, this is just from a nother perspective

) homosexuals instead of condemming them?

People like this give me a bad name, literaly.
I am a pastor in Indiana and it drives me crazy when i hear about things like this. Are some people going to go to hell? Mabey, is it any person on earth who desides? No, does god hate some people, well if he did would he have become flesh and allowed himself to be killed and then offer a prayer of forgivness to the people who were doing it. Not likely. Tell the people if you see them again to quit using bumper sticker theology and actually read the bible, the whole thing and not just use snipites taken out of context.
