Just look at the trouble Eve started in he garden. Need you look any further.

Writers of the Bible thought women were too inferior to be angels, so they wrote the Bible accordingly.

It was my understanding that all angels are gender neutral - as they're not humans and apparently never were, they don't fall into the male/female classifications. hmm.gif

Now all I can think about is Alan Rickman in Dogma, pulling down his pants to prove he was "as anatomically correct as a Ken doll"! happy.gif

Angels have no gender. In fact, they have no real physical form either. Angels can assume any human physical form they wish to, male or female. However most angels adopt a persona. Angels are simply spiritual energy, but appear as beautiful, perfect beings to us.

If you want to have fun with your english lit teacher, point out how Milton, in Paradise Lost, differentiates between male and female divine entities (all of the angels being male), yet in another place mentions sex between the heavenly hosts.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. tongue.gif

Then what about the nephilim or is it a Jewish thing?

Angels are inherently male. They are afterthe all the Benai Elohim (Sons of God). Sons, not daughters. However in human form they can be either male or female.

From a biological perspective, a male simply is an entity that donates genetic material to fertilize an egg, to put it loosely. So, there is no point in the existance of a male if there is no female version. Gender is all about reproduction from a biological prospective. From a new age spiritual reincarnation prospective, spiritual beings have been both embodied as male and female during different reincarnations, so therefore the spirit might be considered gender neutral, as it is not the spirit that determines gender, but the body in which it reincarnates ( if you believe in reincarnation).

In Genesis God said lets make man in our image. So I believe angels to be male. Micheal, Gabriel, and even Lucifer/Satan. All described as a he. One reason why I believe angels to be considered women is because of their gorgeous features. much like a "pretty" boy would be considered female at first glance. Another is the gaurdian angel. Who is depicted as female. I think that goes back to the soft motherly approach to gaurdianship that women have.

Also angels did have male sex organs until they laid with human women and God punished them. Cant remember where in the Bible that exactly is but I do remember that Joseph saw the spawn of women and angels and that they were monstorous beings and that they wared with them. Its either in Genisis or Exodus.

Given my post above, what would the angels have done with their sex organs without human woman? What does God do with 'his' if there is only one God?

I guess that would be one of those unanswerable questions of faith that we will not know until we meet him face to face and ask.

Don't limit yourself to the bible. Angels are common to Christianity, Islam and Judaism. All of them are always male and always described with the gender specific pronoun 'he'.
Nephilim are the results of angels taking 'wives' of all they chose. There are no accounts of nephilim being fathered by mortals.
If there are female angels then why would the angels have thought the daughters of men were so fair? Are all angels beautiful creatures except the females? Would the angels have thought the daughters of men were fair if they were surrounded by fantastically beautiful female angels?
What I have always wondered is why, when I visit any angel site on the web, I see nothing but female angels. Little girls, grown women, but always female dispite all the obvious evidence to the contrary.
I have not been able to explain this to myself except by assuming it is due to an incredible, almost unbelievable case of vanity. Minds that assume if it is beautiful it must be female.
Hating to think so lowly of my female counterparts could someone suggest an alternate explanation?

The bible almost always uses masculine nouns and pronouns for everything wether they are speaking about just men or just a generic term for men and women. I don't really think that angels have a gender, but I believe they can take on human appearance and that they most likely appeared as males since woman are "second best" in the bible, anyhow. rolleyes.gif

By looking at the bible and all of its unofficial offshoots I would say that all angels are "male" but have female qualities. Angels are usually depicted as "pretty boys" and they have female personalties. Biologically though they cannot reproduce which means they have no real genders so if you think about they there would be no reason for an angel to have breasts which would make it hard to distinguish between the two genders even further especially if they all are "pretty boys"

I think that angels are a blend of both genders because when God created Eve he just didn't create her out of scratch...she was based off God and the angels too...but more indirectly.

Actually...truth be known, angels are both male and female, but predominantly male. They CAN reproduce as evident in Genesis 6, Enoch and Jubiless to name a few.

Another little known fact is that Adam was made as a Hermaphrodite. In other words 'he' was both male and female (like all angels, he and Eve were made as a 'second kind of angel'. In fact the only female angel would be Eve).

Do you have a source for this? If that is true, I'd like to read more about it original.gif

The Torah I think, and the Dictionary of Angels. About him and Eve being angels, 2 Enoch.

I don't even know why this thread exists.

I mean... angels????

Come on guys, do you actually believe in this fictional entity? It's like saying you also believe in fairies, leprechauns, and pixies.

This is interesting... and entertaining.

The supposed ancestor of the human race was a genetic freak. Where did you get your information?

If Adam was a hermaphrodite, Eve didn't have a role in his life in the first place. Adam could have reproduced all by himself and gave birth to the entire human race.

Reproduction, all alone - like a plant or a bacteria.

I suppose it depends how we look at that word. Modern day hermaphrodites cannot reproduce with themselves. However, who knows what kind of "hermaphrodite" Adam was. Also, I believe Eve was made because Adam was lonely too.

I'm sure Adam started to change his mind when Eve, his companion, started to nag day and night.

Well she only nagged because Adam was a lazy bum who never helped with the housework!
