Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - Rock concerts and charity are becoming an increasingly common affair.
This year, the "Ozzfest" tour will be free for fans, showing a charitable side to the events founders Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon, who are giving back to the fans that have given so much to them.
With last year's tour ticket prices reaching up to $150, the hard rocking pair decided to give music fans a break and make the show available to anyone and everyone.
Sharon said at a press conference, "For the last few years, ticket prices have steadily climbed as artists demand more and more money for summer tours. We certainly want everybody to make money; however, we also want the kids to be able to afford to come out and have an incredible experience. If we continued with the traditional touring festival model, we would have no choice but to raise ticket prices again this year."
The 25-date tour will be for free to anyone who obtains tickets from the Internet sites of corporate sponsors, who are yet to be officially announced.
Sharon said the decision to give away tickets is to move with the market, like downloadable music has.
She said, "We're reaching the same point we did years ago when kids no longer wanted to pay for overpriced CDs. As a result, they found alternative ways of getting music. That's what's happening with summer touring in this country, it's out pricing itself."
The festival, which begins in July, will feature a list of as-of-yet-unconfirmed acts and will make money through CD and merchandise sales.
