im looking for information on a story i heard. there was a girl found in a cave in france that had blue skin. she spoke an unknown language. when she finally learned how to speak french she told them she was from a world where the ocean was the sky. i want to say she had a boy with her and the boy died but she adapted a bit but died shortly after being discovered also.

You can't be sure of that, of course it sounds far fetched but you can't just rule it out. OP try to do some more research and get some more details and try to enlighten us a bit more original.gif

Never heard this story before; but blue skinned people is possible. It's a medical condition know as methemoglobinemia.

i found something that seems close to what i heard. theyre called 'green children' the story seems right but they were green not blue.

Actually they were green. Sorry I dont know how to do a link here so youll have to copy and paste this. But here is the story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_children_of_Woolpit

Yeah. Ive seen slightly diffrent versions. There is also a thread or two about them here at um. Might be in one of those versions.

Just to jump in here, before anyone says anything, although human blood (indeed pretty much all terrestrial vertebrates) contains haemoglobin which is iron based, and the general acceptance is that hypoxia turns your blood blue, it in fact does not! The blood goes from bright red when oxygenated to a very dark red when deoxygenated. If you've ever been to give blood (or indeed even had a blood test) then you'll probably know what I mean. That blood they take has already been to the extremities with oxygen and is returning o the heart (ie. venous; as in, of the veins). That is deoxygenated blood, and it certainly isn't blue tongue.gif

as for the greeen children of Woolpit. I heard stories here and there that they would only eat green vegetables. It seems to be quite a legend in Woolpit, and I wonder if there may be any basis of fact, no matter how mundane it originally was. You see we do get green kittens... well... one. That is, unless you believe this page... but then look at the date wink2.gif

I know a certain group of little blue people that aren't gonna be happy about this "exploitation"....
Ghost Ship
I believe the story of the green children. It would be so awesome to find creatures like that from another realm. I would be glad to show them around and get to know them. I would be anything but afraid of them.

There is a group of people in Kentucky, I believe (though I could be wrong) that has blue skin. I don't remember exactly what causes it, but it's documented and actually happens. There's also a small population in Peru. I know it has something to do with something in their environment, and when they've been out of it for a bit their skin goes back to it's normal color.

The Blue people of Troublesome creek. There is also a sect of blue people in Alaska (not because of the cold though tongue.gif). It is a rare blood disorder which causes the condition known as methemoglobinemia.

You gotta keep feeding it copper though. Which isn't really all that healthy for it. Failing that you could always go to that shop on "Puddle Lane" to see if the Magician or Toby the Dragon could get you some of those green chocolate mice. it made a cat turn green once so...

DISCLAIMER- I appologise to those who are not familiar with Puddle Lane (through geography or demography), as you certianly have missed out wink2.gif

Yeah, the Green Children were found near the mouth of a cave near Barcelona Spain.
The Whoolpit story is an original, the others are alterations of it.
Brad Steiger wrote of other strange people that have turned up with strange colored skin and spoke in a strange language, over the years.

To make a point, I work in the medical profession and see deoxygenated venous blood nearly everyday. Whereas you are correct in saying that venous blood is depleted of oxygen and does not appear blue, it, in fact, is blue. Oxygenated blood is bright scarlet red. When you see blood drawn from the vein of an individual, some of the hemoglobin (which contains iron) is deoxygenated, but the process of oxygen delivery by the body is not 100%, as a failsafe in case the body is suddenly depraved of oxygen. This mixture of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood makes "normal" venous blood appear a maroon purple from the mixture of red and blue hemoglobin. However, if there is severe depletion of oxygen in the body, you will mostly see the deoxygenated blood cells, which cause the skin to turn blue as well (a medical term called cyanosis). This is one of the symptoms of a severe medical emergency in people who were otherwise healthy (caused by heart attacks or strokes). It may seem like I am flaming you, but please don't take it wrong. When dealing with subject matter that can be open to skepticism, it is healthy to know what can be considered facts. I will link to wikipedia on the subject. For more information, there is an abundance of medical information concerning cyanosis.

I went to HS with a guy that had methemoglobinemia... I he wasn't like cobalt blue or anything, but there was no mistaking that his overall skin tone was definitely blue/gray with his lips being a more true color of blue, he had red hair too. He was a really nice guy, very well liked by pretty much everyone. I think I heard at my 20 year reunion he'd passed on sometime in our mid 20's and I was sad to hear that, he was great.

I had a girl friend in HS too that suffered from anorexia. The only thing she ate was carrots and 4 chocolate chips a day for about 6 months. She turned pretty much bright orange. It was horrible. I don't know if eating only dark green veggies will turn you green, but I know eating too many carrots will turn you orange.

Down here on the beaches of tropical Queensland, we see people with blue skin speaking unknown languages all the time.

The locals have a name for them... we call them 'Tourists'.

The sightings usually only last from morning to about mid afternoon on a typical 110o day, though.

After that time, there's an odd spate of Lobster People sightings.

I've heard of this story but that was it. I can't find a more detail story than that. If I'm not mistaken, it was in one of von Daniken's books. Not sure though.

I've never heard of blue-skinned people but I know there are blue-blooded (?) people. Is that what you call methemoglobinemia? There was a boy with blue blood (that was what they say) in my village. He didn't live long, died at 15 or so.

Hi Mystery dude:

I didn't read about that one, but a few years ago, I read an account where two blue children were found, and said they came from a subterranean land. I'll see if I can find that report and post it here.

I found this. It's called argyria and it makes people blue...
Also, here's the link to the page where I found the pic:

And found THIS too:

The Blue People of Troublesome Creek

Sometime around 1820, a French orphan named Martin Fugate, carrier of an incredibly rare recessive gene for a disease known as hereditary methemoglobinemia, settled on the banks of Troublesome Creek in Eastern Kentucky and married Elizabeth Smith, carrier of the same incredibly rare recessive gene. It was a remarkable coincidence with a bizarre result: Four of the seven Fugate children were born with bright blue skin that lasted their entire lives. (According to legend, and the image above, Martin Fugate himself had blue skin). The reason for this strange skin disorder was only discovered a century later when it was realized that due to an enzyme deficiency, the Fugates’ blood had a diminished oxygen-carrying capacity. Over the years, the Fugates interbred repeatedly. Blue people proliferated. Six generations later, according to a Science article published in 1982, there were still Blue Fugates roaming the hills of Eastern Kentucky.

We just learned about the Blue Fugates in Biology yesterday. I live in Kentucky and I still had never heard of them until class..Very, very interesting story. That's why I love studying genetics and stuffs cause you get to learn about some pretty cool conditions.

Hooray Biology Class! Fun day.
