About a year ago I went to a very old cemetery in my neighborhood along with my boyfriend. It was in the beginning of our relationship so I thought Id show him some things I love. This little grave yard with less than 100 graves has no caretaker and most of the graves have fallen in .... spooky looking place especially at night! Most of the graves are dated in the 1800s and others you cant read anymore. As we arrived, walking around looking at the graves and reading the dates on the stones, I came across a dead bird on one of them .... no blood, no bullet hole (you get some sick little kids that like shooting at birds in our area), nothing was wrong with it ... just dead. We walked on and found another 2 ... same thing. I started wondering about this ... I don't like dead birds in a cemetery .. it feels wrong .... I found another ... this time just the head missing lying on the grave .... and another half decomposed on another grave ... all theses closer to the kiddies section with the really small graves. Anyway this freaked the hell out of me but gave me no reason to leave. (Not a lot of people go into this cemetery ... its apparently haunted) And if it was people who put the birds there its just flippen sick! We sat around for a few minutes when a man came to us asking for money for food ... I really didn't have my wallet with me ... nor did my boyfriend so decided to be kind and instead give him a cigarette which he was eyeing. One thing I noticed was that this man was not well. He was sick ... I don't know about physical but spiritually and mentally he was screwed, I could see it in his eyes .... near madness. The guy took the cigarette and went on his merry way .... leaving the cemetery. Sitting there talking about .... something that I was suppose to remember but forgot *sigh* .... I looked up and saw a red balloon in the sky, so im thinking to myself .... red ...... danger ... warning ..... and pointed at the thing. We had enough as we got up to go home the man who had come to us for money had returned ... with another next to him .... there was only one gate in and out of the cemetery. They started in our direction and I said to my boyfriend go round the top, they moved still towards us ..... as he got closer he said excuse me missis and I asked him what he wanted but obviously not feeling very happy about being freaked out a little too much .... he had a broken bottle neck in his hand and was talking in their language ... my boyfriend spun me around and said run .... like where to I have no idea cause there are two of them and if I run the other one will run after me. I looked round and saw him trying to slash at my boyfriend, I screamed his name and the guy stood there looked at me, dropped the broken bottle and ran like hell out of the cemetery, all this happened so fast. Keep in mind we weren't wearing anything of value and nothing gold. Just had a packet of smokes and a lighter... oh and my keys.

What scared him away????
Was the red balloon an omen????
What were the dead birds doing there????
Does anyone else believe in omens???

Thats pretty freaky, like something out of a movie. Mabye he wasn't expecting you to scream, and was shocked. The red balloon may not have any relevance, or it might be strongly conntected, its hard to tell. The birds could just be a coincidence but it unlikely. How many were there do you think?
Have you been back there since? If so where there birds there again?

Its just freaky really. blink.gif

Interesting story. aside from anything supernatural. You screaming probably scared him. Either due to the fear of someone coming to your scream like an authority figure or another passerby or maybe someone else in the area. Or you may have snapped him out of his crazy mindset. Then again perhaps you were aided by something supernatural like a ghost or gaurdian angel. You did say the place was haunted.

Perhaps the balloon was an omen, due to the fact that it came from no where.

Since you said the man was mad and walking around the cemetary he probably uses the cemetary as a squating ground with obviously other hobos. Because of his mad/crazy desposition he probably put them their. That is the best to atleast my knowlege would be the case.

And yes I do believe in signs and omens.

Its South Africa lol!!! obviously Im gonna scream ... what the hell was the twit thinking??? Im an idiot or something?
No I havent been back there ... I promised I wouldnt go. I wanted to .. to find the bottle neck.
There were 2 small birds, one Indian Minah, and another unidentified decomposing bird. 4 in total. (I also checked if there were any other dead birds in the area or if someone knew of anything ... found nothing ... so i dont know).

Scary .... your scream had to startled him, as for the red balloon, well thats a matter of personal opinion. To you, seeing it gave an impression of being an omen .. one of danger. Seeing something can give us the impression of either being a good omen or a bad omen .. a sense. And I do believe in omens .. the majority of the time I see good omens, once in a while I'll come across a bad one - hate when that happens.

Wow, what a nerve wracking story. I definately believe in omens; maybe the red balloon, dead birds, and the look in the mans eyes triggered your intuition that something just wasn't right.

Personally I think you're just making it into an omen by looking back and piecing together for your own need.

Reminds me of the part from the movie, King Arthur, were Lancelot makes an omen prediction as a quick joke towards Guinevere about the weather... Rain and snow or something like that being a bad omen.

It's all in the head but past events can bring meaning to why the probablity fell your way. Much easier to explain something by thanking a bird then not knowing how the hell you did it. And on the flip side... Much easier to blame that same bird or whatever you see why a tragic event took place that you don't know why.

Thing is Ive researched omens ... before that even happend .... I can remember that when I saw the first bird already I was freaked out .... Then the others and the balloon just put the cherry on the cake .... but maybe it was nothing after all .... just a bit "funny" dont you think???
I dont blame what I saw for what happened at all! To me it was just a simple warning that I didnt listen to. It wasnt that I wanted it to be that way or that I wanted it to be an omen .... It was the second I saw each ... I thought "OMEN". But yet again .... maybe it was just absolutely nothing like you said.

Given the accounts of "Avian flu", that might explain the dead birds everywhere. The headless one may be due to a cat prowling and taking a nosh. Either way, reporting those dead birds to the local office of the Department of Agriculture, might not be a bad idea. That many dead birds, especially if they're the same species, is not a good sign in itself.

Maybe this encounter and those signs were teaching you a lesson. Never enter a place where no one goes, unarmed! Even a walking stick is better than nothing, against a broken bottle being wielded as a weapon. Perhaps that's what the red balloon floating above your head was telling you. Get away, because death is approaching!

Great, at school there were a HUGE pile of red ballons in a net. There was a balloon race or something.Didn't know much about it until i saw them.

Should i be freaked out ? lol. I will post pics if i can get them, i doubt it though. sad.gif

Seriously! You take your boyfriend to a cemetary to show him things you love??? OK. Wouldn't getting a room be a better idea?

On a serious note ... I love the dead (without the um....sexual part please!!!! I know im not all well tongue.gif but thats a little tooooo much freakiness!!!) .... I love history .... I love magick .... You want to tell me youve never went for a walk in a cemetry??? Youve never felt the peaceful quietness??? I suppose we have to learn to accept the fact that not everyone is like us. You have different people in this world.

Btw.... Showing him things I love does not mean sex! Tis not like I wanted to get funky with him in the cemetry! FREAK! w00t.gif THATS JUST SO WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! Get your bloody head out of the gutter!!!
