Dr. D
65-years-old . . . . graduate University of Liverpool in Middle Eastern History . . . . doctorate in classical philosophies . . . second degree in language sciences . . . . and I will be honest and say that all this was not because I was such a dedicated student, rather that the Vietnam War was in progress and it seemed better to have a student exemption at the time. Didn't work though . . . . before I could register for a second masters, I received that dreaded telegram.

I studied in England because I had a step-father who hated me as much as I hated him. But he had money and told me that he wanted me to go to university and he would pay for it all as long as it was a university as far away as possible.

I was sent to OTC upon my return to the states and served 21 months in Vietnam. Marines, first division.

Authored several books, some of which are still on Amazon at collectors prices. I have lived for a time in Italy, Germany, France, Costa Rica, Honduras, the U.S. and now Mexico.

In the early 90s I got fed up with the direction the U.S. was going and moved to Mexico. I purchased a home that was constructed in 1593 and restored it. I still live there today.

I have two marvelous Schnauzer dogs . . . . Oliver and Olivia . . . . and a host of friends. I live in a small village that finds every day to be tranquil, tropical and incredibly satisfying.
Malruhn
Forty-six years old, married with three daughters. I have a BA in Environmental Studies (Policy & Management emphasis). I served about 6 years in the Army, and now have 15 years in the US Coast Guard - and my present job has me working with the Air Force as an instructor. I've been stationed in South Korea, Panama, Iraq, Kuwait and Turkey, with combat experience in Iraq (twice - GW I, and OIF).

I grew up Roman Catholic, but became disillusioned in my teens when I was told to stop questioning the Church's teachings. I toyed with the occult and paganism until ending up re-immersed in Christianity - when I earned my Ordination as a Christian Minister. Since that time, I've backslid to the point that I an no longer Christian, and describe myself as a very devout agnostic.

I've experienced what I believe to have been several supernatural incidents, but question everything... absolutely everything (to include my own beliefs!!).

I am VERY polically and fiscally conservative, but am pragmatic enough to realize that without folks of all flavors, no real progress can be made.

I've been a Freemason for a decade, and also am a member of the Royal Arch and Knights Templar. I joined this board to debunk crazy ideas about the Freemasons.

home. which we have done for over 10 yrs. I am a retired horse trainer if there is such a thing. I don't think you can ever
retire from something you love. I have worked in the equinebusiness for over 20 yrs. I got started working for other people at a young age. I grew up in the equine world. It was all I knew as a child.

I have 2 dogs. a German Shepherd, (Von bloodline) and a English Mastiff Great Dane breed for wild bore hunting. he weights
around 210lbs and is a couch potato. best dog Ive ever owned. One horse three goats. four rabbits 2 cats an a few
chickens. I enjoy taking care of animals in which are in need of special needs. I assisted a local vet when I managed a horse
farm. It was very educational with the line of work I was in. I love to teach children who are "underprivileged" about
horses and maintenance of such. They always come out ahead of spoiled children. I refuse to teach a child who is spoiled
and given everything they ask. And I am very Straight Up with such.

When in high school my algebra teacher stated I was "set in my ways" that statement has lasted thus far. I am not open

Sounds good to me. Now make it a little link in your signature, so anyone that says, "Who is this knuckle head and why does he think such-and-such?", they can look at this post and have a better idea of where your coming from. thumbsup.gif

That's the BEAUTY OF IT! You DO! See, now I know why talking to YOU about ghosts would be futile. You really have no associates or know anyone that claims to have seen a ghost?
We also know that you have some experience in the realm of child-rearing too, so a topic that touches on kids may mean something different to you than to a 13 year old kid. (We had a HUGE debate about the Spears girl from ZOE 101 getting knocked up, and age played a huge factor in the varying opinions as well as if you had kids or not).

So now we know MORE about you and where you are coming from! THAT is what this thread is for. Now, MAKE A LINK! wink2.gif

You mean: am I giving up a board that insists on not paying author's advances, will in the future only publish known authors and is going to scratch about 50% of the publishing? Well, YES

Dare I ask what board you are referring to, or do you wish to keep that on the down low? I'd love to peruse some of your work if it's publicly available.

The publishing house I still am working for, the board has been invaded by slide ruler pushers who seem to have better ideas of how to make money in publishing than I do.

I am more the old fashioned guy, you know the type that thinks that fostering new talent... though economical not viable for the first years ... ensures the permanence in time. My advisory board is a bunch of guys who just think until the next quarter figures. So I decided to let it go because they don't pay me enough to put up a fight for every new author.

I have not seen yet the severance contract, so I don't know what I can tell once I quit...but I suspect it is not much.

I see a brilliant future for self-publishing houses if this trend continues. Lulu sounds better every day.

Hmmm...

Lets see. I have done a lot of things in my life and mainly make a living as a firefighter in the past years I also teach CPR classes...but as far as education goes:

B.S. in Fire Science Degree

Firefighter certs:

Washington State Registry Emergency Medical Technician. Washington State Firefighter 1, Washington State Confined Space Rescue Certification. Washington State Rope Rescue Certification. Technical Rescue Team Member. Washington State Firefighter Instructor 1 Certification. National Wildland Firefighter S-130/190 Certification. FEMA Emergency Response to Terrorism Training. FEMA Community Safety Educator. FEMA Wildland Urban Interface Field Operations Training. FEMA Emergency Medical Services Mass Casualty Operations Training. American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid Instructor. American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor. NFPA Personal Protective Equipment Specialist. NFPA Hazardous Material Transportation Certification. NFPA Emergency Response To Terrorism. NFPA Blood borne Pathogen Safety. NFPA Trenching and Shoring Cert. NFPA Hazard Communications. NFPA Confined Space Entry Cert.

None of that really adds up to much, just a whole lot of classes. When it comes down to it, if someone needs help, I am going to help, come hell or high water. I dont have a high water certification though. tongue.gif

To help people is about the best thing a man(or woman- we have two women) could ask for. I would do it for nothing, and often do after everything is said and done. I dont care to be rich, and get paid in a different way that people sometimes dont understand. I hope to be able to do this job until I drop dead, (although I just had a back surgery after herniating a disk rescuing a 350 pound trucker out of his wrecked truck, and that isnt healing well, so we will have to see) as I cant fathom doing anything else.

I was an Army Medic. I miss that. In a way I wish I could go back. (If you are a recruiter, please realize I said "in a way"...dont PM me...)

In between the two I worked for a company called Interplay, that made computer games...Fallout 1, 2...Baldurs gate 1, 2 I was a QA Manager. I had fun there.

My wife and I have been married for ten years, happily.

I have been on my own since I was 14 years old(living in Los Angeles) as I had a mother with drug and mental health problems for that reason we have fostered children although have none in the home with us right now. Have one of the kids we adopted in baghdad right now in the Army. We foster older children 10+, everyone wants the babies, no one wants to take care of the older kids, so we take care of the kids no one wants.

I have 3 cats and a dog. I live on 8 acres on a river in Washington.

I’m 30 (But some people say I still look like I’m 24 or 25) tongue.gif

I’m 5’11, so I sometimes I make people feel uncomfortable since I’m usually the tallest person in the room.

I was born In Springfield, MO

I am the oldest of 4

I graduated from Missouri State University with a Master's Degree in Human Recourses, Started out in Social Work but couldn’t cut it, I burned out, and so I went back and changed my career to HR.

I also have an associates degree in personal training. I do some training on the side for older women when I need the money
I’m Divorced, No Children.

I moved to St. Louis a few years ago for my job, I left all my friends and family behind for a fresh start after my Divorce.

I am currently a Physician Recruiter.

I’m super goofy and have done some amateur… (you thought I was going to say porn) stand up comedy on the side when I was in college. w00t.gif

That’s about it, since I don’t have a husband to nag at, and kids to make me complete, all I really have is my work, and hobbies of shopping, reading, cooking, and lots of Drinking of the red wine, and hanging out with other child-less adult women! I don’t even have a gold fish. blush.gif
Copasetic
Well I'll add a little bit about myself. Probably best to just list some stuff, so as to not have to ramble on in details.

I am a husband and father (2 boys).
I am interested in biology, physics, math and chemistry. If I was born in another time I think I would have been called a Renaissance Man.

I am an avid outdoors man. Everything from mountain/rock climbing to SCUBA diving, hiking, camping and water sports. I recently bought a new boat! Fishing is my first true outdoor love however. With 10 minutes left to live, I very well could spend 5 of them fishing. The boy scouts were my large introduction to many outdoor activities. I am an Eagle Scout.
I love sports; football, lacrosse and weight lifting. I still play in a Men's Lacrosse league with some friends I played with back in high school. That's a fun time, want to see a bunch of grown adult men running around like they are 18 again? Stop by a Men's lacrosse league laugh.gif .

I got into computers for research purposes, I have been building/writing/tinkering with them since the late 80's. Back then it was much easier to build your linx system for whatever research you were doing at the time, then to pay for one. Consider myself a quasi-computer nerd wink2.gif I also love video games wink2.gif I started dabbling in those back in the Atari era, continued right into the age of PCs and modern massively multiplayer online RPGs and first person shooters.

I am part owner of a small molecular biology supply company. I hold a research faculty position at a large Big 10 university. I also consult for a number of local and national R&D programs, including ones worked on/funded by the government.

Traveled for awhile after I graduated the second time! I have been all around the United States (though never Alaska, but I would love to do some climbing out there). Been around a few parts of Europe and Asia, the visits never seem long enough though.

My education is sprinkled with a few degrees, advanced ones in 2 fields (biology and physics). I recently applied for medical school at Harvard, Duke and John Hopkins, I figure whats one more little string of letters after your name eh? grin2.gif

Well that's me in a nutshell laugh.gif

As stated before, this is not to get "personal" information, but to get a sense of who you are, what your background is. If I am embroiled in a discussion, it might be nice to know the person I am disagreeing with has a Phd in what we are discussing, or that the person is a Jr. High student. If you look at the posts here, that's the kind of info you will find.

This type of site almost begs that kind of information.

With that said I'll share this. I'm an adult I'm a little younger than egquimby. I'm currently married I have children, I have some pets. I have an AS of Science degree, I graduated with high honors. I've worked many carrers (jobs) all technical, all having to do with some sort of mechanical science of some sort except two of them. I served in the US military, where I recieved an honorable discharge when I chose to seperate from it. I was agnostic/ athiest untill I almost died. After that experience I realized that theres more to life than most of us are aware of. I also learned to not always believe what someone else tells you just because they say it's true, decide for yourself what you feel is true after gathering information. Some of the lessons I've learned in life are: No matter how many pieces of paper another person has saying that they are an expert in something doesn't mean that they are, it usually just means they went to classes and like hanging papers on their walls to impress others. Some highly educated people are the dumbest people I've ever met. Life is short time is precious just like life is precious. So I don't like wasting either one, wether it's mine or someone else's. Life is what you make of it, it's not a race, or a competition. Theres no way to prove what happens to us after our bodies die, only one person died and came back that I know of. I reccomend that people read his story, even if you don't believe his story, he had some really good morals and everyone could learn something from his ideals.

See, now that's not super-personal, but if you make a link to this post in your signature or profile (or even just cut and paste this into your profile) we get a much better idea of who you are. Parent, Veteran, Spouse, scientific-minded, Christian oriented...a little non-conformist (that's cool thumbsup.gif ) and kind of philosophical too.

Do you mind if I ask how you almost died, and how close you actually were? Was it a classic near-death-experience, or just a personal wake-up call?

IamsSon
I'm a 41 year old 1st generation American (my parents legally migrated from Mexico).

I've been happily married to my high school sweetheart for almost 18 years (We didn't marry until we both graduated college because both our fathers threatened me with severe bodily harm if I didn't wait).

We have two children who I deeply love. My son is almost 16 and has participated in UM on and off (mostly off now because he's discovered girls tongue.gif ) and my daughter is almost 13 (I've been told I should be building a fortified steel cage to throw her in prior to her next birthday and not open it until she hits 25 tongue.gif ).

We home school and have done so since my son was 5 in part because the home school kids we had met all seemed very mature and intelligent and partly because my son would probably have been injected with high doses of rytallin as soon as he walked in a public school.

I have a BS in General Math and Military Science. I served in the U.S. Army as a Quartermaster Officer in a forward support company. I was stationed in the Republic of Panama and left the military in part because I had no respect for my Commander in Chief (Clinton).

I am an evangelical Christian (and yet have never accosted anyone on the street demanding they convert or go to eternal damnation), I accepted Christ as my Savior when I was 14. I've worked as a full-time staff member at a non-denominational church as an operations manager.

I'm a staunch conservative politically.

The majority of my professional experience is in transportation logistics and management. I am currently working on a start-up company with some friends marketing software which was developed based on a spreadsheet I wrote. I'm also the web administrator for the church I worked at.

I've seen UFOs (one may have been ball lightning, but I saw it from about 20 feet away and am not convinced it was that).

My father, sister and I have all had encounters with supernatural events since childhood.

I enjoy studying the Bible and am an avid Science Fiction reader (I'm still burning with envy that OldTimeRadio actually hung out with Asimov).

ShaunZero
I'm a 20 year old coonass from Louisiana, and soon to be father. I got my GED when I was 16, but no further education beyond that(yet). I love computers, and work well with them.

I use to be a Christian and believer in many different phenomena. After being an active poster on these forums for about 1.5 - 2 years, my world view changed completely. I am now more of a skeptic. I will not believe anything without proper evidence. However, I don't like to place myself on either side of the fence. Believers believe things far too easily, and there are far too many cynics on the skeptical side of the field. I'm simply me, and I do not necessarily require the same amount of evidence to be convinced as say, scientists, I'm more flexible.

I have a huge interest in answering mysterious questions. Why do we exist? Is there a reason? How was the universe created? Do spirits exist? If they do, what are they? What is the universe? Maybe we're all wrong and the truth is weird beyond belief? What are UFOs? That's my line of thinking on a daily basis. It makes me feel as if I'm ADD, and causes me to have a horrible memory. I think about these sorts of things far too much, which causes me to be very forgetfull and I sometimes even space off while people are talking to me. I have a curious mind.

Though I have never experienced anything weird or "paranormal" aside from watching a door close by itself in a house that I was told was haunted before I stepped foot in it, I have a slight belief in ghosts, and I do indeed feel that it is inevitible that something "odd" is flying in our atmosphere; be it alien or military craft. Hauntings and the ufo phenomena are the only two phenomena that I can safely say I "believe"(With good reason, in my opinion) in, aside from a slight interest in the idea of reincarnation.

That was more of an explaination of my personality than it was credentials, but there it is.

My name is scott. Im 16 years old, was born in norwich but currently living in Milton Keynes (moving house soon). I finished school this year, and god 5 C's and 2 B's in my exams (shud of done better!). Ive never had any paranormal or alien experiances, but thats not to say i wont. Im quite interested in ghosts and aliens etc, although im not a proper believer in them as ill only believe it the day i experiance it myself! I have one dog, called Joskins. The lowest point in my life was when i was 13 and my first dog "Spike" died, he died of a stroke (was the saddest thing i have ever seen). I've got 4 brothers, all older then me.

In my spare time i play sports, watch TV, go out with friends and sleep! I'm currently working at KFC (the second lowest point in my life), but when i move house im hoping to go back to college and maybe learn to become a plumber.

I also like to play Trackmania! If anybody plays add me, my current name is NiN-J.Hoskins!

I'm a 39 year old Divorcee, born in England, with two children, who are now 13 and 7. Religion wise, I'm an atheist. Politics wise, I'm somewhere to the left of Ghandi.

Experience wise - I'm a software designer - I've been developing software applications for over 20 years now (officially, that is. My first piece of commercial software I wrote when I was 13 - a stock control system for CBS records, written in assembler). I specialise in Genetic Algorithms - software that uses evolutionary techniques in order to generate a decent result quickly. I'm currently Freelance, and engaged on some development work for Ferrari. Prior to that I was working with Barclays, writing applications for managing their MasterCard brand.

My software's won a few international awards - the last one was in 2006 - an EMEA RAD award from Microsoft.

Qualification wise - surprisingly, I don't actually have that much, apart from a couple of A levels in Maths and Physics - the truth is that at 18, I was having so much fun designing multi-million pound software systems, that I decided to turn down the offer for the degree in Physics/Psychology at Keele University I had originally planned to take.

Fortunately - It's never really been a problem for me - I tend to get headhunted by name, and on the occasions when I have had to use it, my CV makes the point rather mute.

In my spare time, I'm currently researching a book and organising a documentary based around the Simulation Argument, toying with the RSA2048 challenge (yes - I know it's officially closed) and working on an entry for the Hutter prize.

Usually, I just tell people that I'm a code Geek. Generally, it's quicker that way.

Wow such a huge mega thread and quite interesting too but so much to read and I am not even close to reading it all. Either way Egg I think perhaps this is all rather sly of you. You are merely fishing for information that you can later use to form your own network of forum skeptics so that way you can call out the 'experts' or at least request they visit a post to offer their opinion in hopes of debunking paranormal phenomena. Quite sneaky of you if my assumption is correct. As for me I have nothing impressive to offer and even if I did I would not for I would rather others read my words for what they simply are if they even read any of my posts rather than being just a label or an expert in this or that. In turn I promise to those whose posts I read that I will not instantly accept your word as valid or invalid based on labels but rather I will read your words for what they are and accept you as individuals in what little can be revealed in a forum about a person. Though much is being revealed on this thread I must say and again it is all quite interesting.

As far as the forum goes though be sure to tag me if you ever need an unorthodox opinion on anything because I usually see things vastly different than others which at times makes me question my perception of reality. So if ever have two factions going at it and need a third opinion that agrees with neither faction then most likely I will see things differently than both groups in question. I do not think inside or outside the box but use a triangle instead lolz. I do hope I have contributed positively to this thread but honestly no credentials that I can think of that would make me an expert in any thread though I have many insights.

+ if you are making a spreadsheet of experts for different topics of interest to the paranormal and skeptic categories then i request a copy lolz

All very interesting, but...
In reality, I like to read what people think of themselves and describe themselves, as well as get a good sense of their background. A perfect example is Tiggs! If I ever had a geeky code question (I'm talking binary here) I'd know where to go. Now, in the future, if I see Tiggs jump in on some deep analysis of say, AI, I might give his post a bit more attention than some guy who also posted here, and explains that he was a journalism major, writes for Bazaar, and weaves baskets part time. See what I mean? If you read my post here, you'll see I was Navy for 20 years. So, if a Navy question pops up and I answer it authoritatively, who ya gonna believe? Me or the very intelligent but experience-free 16 year old?

No ulterior motive, but I like the way you think!

(1)I turned 45 on Tuesday.
(2)Have had paranormal experiences from the age of four.
(3)Possibly psychic, as I have had visions that later turn out to be true.
(4)Highly empathetic to both animals and people
(5)Believe first in G-d(Allah/Adonai/Yahweh/Jehovah), and Yeshua(Jesus)[I can't remember how to spell His name in Islam]
(6)Accept the world of the paranormal, ufos, aliens, as all part of the Lord's creation, just as we are His creation-who am I too dictate what civilisations He can or can't build in the universe.
(7)Love my fellow man/womankind, and brothers and sisters throughout the universe(s).
(8)I know we are more than the sum of our parts
(9)Believe in life after death, which was proven to be true to me in 1999
(10)Disabled with Spastic Paraplegia, which is a condition that gives me good and bad days, or a combination of both.
(11) I don't worry about tomorrow, and leave the rest to G-d.
(12)I strive to live my life accordingly.
(13)If I am unsure of anything, I look at it from all perspectives, before I make a decision.

For the most part, these things sum me up a bit, although it doesn't go deep into my personal interests.
I have a beautiful daughter, who is going to make me a grandmother in 2009.

I feel blessed, even during the trials of life, as I know the tribulations are going to be much better.

45 and blessed to be alive to see my grandbaby to be born in the new year.
I don't dye my hair, use botox, just take care of my body, like you would a car.
I don't worry about growing old, and each year doesn't feel like a year, but a day. I feel that it is not the years we have lived, but what we have learned in the time we have been allowed to live here on Earth that reflects on the outside. (i.e.if you are bitter and full of hate, it will show on your face-you will look older than your years. If you are loving, and forgiving, especially of yourself, and you get over stress quickly, the body recovers and mends itself)

love, light and peace

too much to write an autobiography, much is spread out among these forums, but can boil it down to "I'm just some dude" and let the words speak, if there's truth, I could have an IQ of 4 and it wouldn't matter.

Im with you. questionarre it and im ready, but asking me to put down my vast experiences is like asking me to write a book.

Vast?
I think you're just too lazy.
Simple, just age, education, any special skills or abilities pertinent to these forums, any strong beliefs that apply. It takes even the MOST experienced people maybe 10 minutes. No one wants a complete history. Read some of the posts here and you'll see what I mean.

I never noticed this thread here; I even looked for one when I signed up. Anyway...

Here are some things about me:

I am 32 years old, married, with 3 kids.
I actually found this forum while I was looking for information on that old show "Unsolved Mysteries" - anyone else miss it?
I'm a Christian, but I was a practicing solitary Wiccan for 7 years.
I have had quite a few weird experiences. My family has too. I also had a psychic great aunt that my mom has told me many stories about. She died when she was very young (in her 20's), so I never met her. Even after the experiences I have had I tend to be a little skeptical about paranormal things (these days anyway, there was a time I believed in EVERYTHING). Sometimes I wonder if it was just my imagination working overtime, or I think that there had to be some other explanation. Maybe I will tell the stories sometime.
Some days I am moody and emotional, other days I am as laid back as they come. Walking contradiction.
Glad to be here. It's fun meeting new people. original.gif

Hello!
I’m almost 38 years old, married, with 3 kids. I grew up in Tel Aviv, moved to France a few years back. I like: my loved ones (my 4 angels), family and friends; my job; travelling, astronomy, gardening, painting/drawing, classical music, art history, ceramology, etc. I dislike: dishonesty, racism, hypocrisy. As for credentials: I received my PhD in anthropology from Tel Aviv University, and my PhD in Egyptian Archaeology from the ENS in Paris. I taught epigraphy at the University of Montpellier. I’m currently on archaeological assignment/projects. That’s it for me. I’m glad to be here. See you folks wink2.gif

Credentials? None.
Special skills? None.
I just find it all mildy fascinating. Some parts more than others, I don't have much time for conspiracy theories and suchlike, but politics can sometimes be entertaining, as long as you don't take it all too seriously, and I'm quite prepared to entertain the possibility of extraterestrial life; who knows, we might found out if there is some sooner rather than later, who can say.
